Hiking in Joshua Tree National Park - The Porcupine Wash Trail / Ruby Lee Mill Site

- In this video, I chronicle my hike of the Porcupine Wash Trail in the Joshua Tree National Park. Several miles counterclockwise on the Loop lies the Ruby Lee Mill Site. The Ruby Lee Mill was established in 1935. A stamp mill was used to crush ore in order to extract minerals. This mill was probably used to extract gold and silver. I hope you enjoy this video.

@@TheHikingRev Compared to only a couple of decades ago our lifes have become so incredibly comfortable. Nowadays we are so to speak desperately seeking physical challenges like hiking. In those days not one day passed by without serious physical activities.

Now back after a crazy empty four months. Watching your cool hike is a great pep up n diversion .. your do a top notch photo coverage.
I’ve bought a older Monty 17’er sailboat n entered the local Salish 100 fleet 100 mile event mid July. I’m hoping to get n maybe share some footage of that ( crossing my fingers 🤞🏼) ..

Our very first visit out West, we stopped by this beautiful national park. We hiked the arch rock trail out and back, such a beautiful, yet hostile place. My dad had a scary tumble up there on that rock, but he ended up okay with cuts, bruises and a broken rib. Wish we had more time to explore this park and the Mastodon trail.

Wow! Love the historic mine site. I was watching one of your other videos about your heart surgeries. How do you deal with higher elevation backpacking now as compared to before the stents? My dad is 70, has had a triple bypass, and really struggled the last trip we did in the Canadian Rockies that was at 6,000 ft.+.
I just have to take my time climbing. But I’ve not had any problems. I did have to reduce my Blood Pressure meds. It was zapping my strength. 😁
Rev I am 63 and not in good shape. I just moved tothe Ozarks and wish to just walk around a local uneven lake. BEING FROM Texas I actually fell and face planted!! I GOT up brushed off went a bit more. I moved from a very cold winter town and didn't use a gym only gentle exercise. My goal is to make it around this lake its a 4 mile trek. I am scared but, buying poles to help me. Broke my leg and also cant lft my leg up really high on the left. I have hike sneakers. Trying a bit mire again. this week hopefully in 6 months I can finished. pray!!! My husband is 68 with a quad bypass. He plays golf and feels great. I am so sad i didn't get moving after my 30s just no time after my work. Can i do this!!
Hey Kaylynn. Just take it slow and easy. And don’t hesitate to “pull the plug” if you don’t feel you can make it all the way. 😁
Appreciate walking with you ... for every hour of walking, What additional time is required to shoot the additional inserts for the video?
About 15 minutes. It took longer this time. I ran out of daylight. Hiked back to the car in the dark. 😳
What kind of hiking shoes do you wear, I've been buying the natural toe box shoes like the Altra temp 4, and the outroad 2, and experimenting with the Topo's as well!
I wear (and have worn for 6 years) the Altra Lone Peaks. 😁
I did not know about desert melons! Is foraging permitted there? Can you have one for lunch? 😊
They say they’re inedible. I don’t think I’m going to try. 😁
