You did spot some old human bedding out in the open before heading into the mines, so just maybe that white fluffy material came from some beds . Pack rats use whatever they can chew up & cart away , so who knows?? Just my guess anyway. C-ya 👍

I could be wrong, but these mines without supports that are short and not as tall/wide as others seem to be more stable and less prone to collapse than the larger ones. I get why they put the sign there, but it doesn't seem as plausible as for some.

Generally a bad idea. The mines are abandon and not in use for a reason. And, metal values are much, much higher now than 30+ years ago. (Of course, operating costs are, too, but not to the height of metal values).
Looks like they came up short with those mines. 😆 but the pack rat's don't mind.
Either the jeans were there and you missed filming them or I'd say your buddy got them. I'm surprised the pack rats didn't chew them up before even he found them though.
