I would like to see an "anxiety factor" in the Doug score.
It's part of the "practicality" score :O). If it's too rare or nice and you don't want to drive it anywhere because you're too anxious to damage or depreciate it - the practicality score comes way down.

If you watch closely when Doug is explaining the wing and how it rises when the car is turned on, you’ll also see that the glass panel that says EB110 also moves. I would presume to let more air into the car.

Honestly though. Your average person wouldn't know, which is the true best theft prevention. Of course breaking windows is a thing, but in an ultra rare car, you would stick out more, than say if it was a Honda CR-V
but all of us now just knows where the door handle could be, its always under the door or somewhere where you can introduce your hand

Maybe it's my Xoomer rose-tinted nostalgia goggles but it was my favorite decade on the subject. Only the Countach, F-40 and some earlier 911 Turbos could reach the 90s' level aesthetically.

This has actually been my favorite car for many years. I LOVE the design of the EB110. It's honestly, beautiful.

The only thing it needs is getting rid of the silly tiny grille and moving the front lights to meet the bumper seam and it would probably be one of the most perfect cars ever sculpted. But the prototypes of it were even better.

Fun fact : The person who revived Bugatti was Roman Artioli. He also bought Lotus and made a halo car that today we adore, the Lotus Elise. It was named after his granddaughter Elisa. And it is approved by Michael Schumacher.

Not sure the Elise qualifies as a "halo car". A halo car is a low production car a company builds to bring people to the brand with little concern for profits or sales figures. That is not what the Elise was.

Poltrona Frau is Italy’s high end furniture builder, supplier to royalty and uber-rich since early 1900’s. That’s why it’s logo is prominently embossed on the seats.
That's interesting and explains it. On a different note, I think Recaro seats have been offered in factory cars while maintaining their own label/branding/logo.

Can’t believe I’ve only just got round to watching this episode!! Along with the McLaren F1 and Porsche Carrera GT, the EB110 is one of my favourite hyper cars, especially in SS spec. I loved the spec, smallish capacity V12, FOUR turbos and 4wd, clothed in a compact mid-engined body. I like it more than the Veyron and Chiron.
Fun fact: Along with the Diablo, the EB110 shared headlights with the Nissan 300ZX of the 90’s.

Hey Doug, I found this on the internet:
The prototype SS39006 was used for the US version development and received the interconnected fuel tanks, with a twin tank single filler. The single filler system was developed to overcome the problem that blighted most other EB110 owners, as their cars were fitted with the standard twin tank, twin filler system. This system was set up as 2 individual systems, each supplying fuel to one bank of the V12 engine. In simple terms, it meant that if you ran one tank dry of fuel, the car would only run on 6 cyl, even though you may have had a full tank on the other side. Therefore, Bugatti developed with this linked system, which eradicates this issue and this prototype was manufactured with this new system.
So, the right hand fuel filler and its flap were removed, and the retractable plate was replaced by a Naca air intake integrated in the right side wall. Rear side markers were positionned on the side of the rear bumper.
So basically either tank now powers the entire engine right

This car was a legend in my generation and very well known...I was born in 1980 and was very aware of this car when I grew up. It was one of the posters next to F40, Countach and all the Marlboro rally cars like the Lancia Delta Integrale. I even (still) have a 1:24 model. Great to see it "irl" instead of a museum. No-one would ever steal one because it would be impossible to drive, or sell - even for parts. It's also now one of those cars which are almost too rare/expensive to drive. These command higher prices that a s/h Veyron. Which is a bit like having a Picasso that you have to keep in a dark room. I have never seen one and if I did I'd cross four lanes of traffic to get a closer look.

Surely there was at least a balance line between the two? Which would explain why only one side opened easily?

@@danishraza2022 Eventually, for sure. It's not like modern MDS that can dynamically chose which cylinders to balance things out. I'm sure it was still plenty potent as an I6, but that unbalanced load would definitely have to take a toll.

Back in 1998 I was in Toronto for a high end car show. A blue EB110 was there, Aston Martin Laganda Shooting Break, A one off Ferrari 4 seater Shooting Brake, 3 Ruff Porsche’s, some unique Alfa Romeo’s, Rolls Royce, Bentley, older Citroen, Fiats. It was a great time

The factory-spec EB110 had a significant issue with fuel delivery. The car had two separate fuel tanks and fillers, one for each bank of the 3.5-litre V-12 engine. This caused the engine to run on only six cylinders if one tank ran dry before the other.
That means the car can run with 6 cylinders while the other 6 fail?

Radio face plate from the era and have the Bluetooth and associated devices working through the proper faceplate rather than putting in a Harbor Freight stereo system… just awful and it would make me ill to see it in person… I don’t think Doug makes much reference to it which is very tactful of him.
That could be explained by the fact that this is a Japanese radio (JDM Pioneer), being "super cool" in the early 2000's. I guess this car spent some years over there: the ultimate Japanese 90's economic boom super car. That could also explain the aftermarket fan switch for Japanese traffic jams.

Doug, you missed a ridiculously good quirk: not only does that car have two fuel tanks, each tank supplies only half the engine. If you run out of gas on one, you’re running on 6 cylinders.

it is interesting because it is a company founded by an Italian who emigrated to France, who founded it in French territory, which then became German territory and then returned to France. after the bankruptcy the brand was bought by an Italian who rebuilt it in Italy to go bankrupt and be incorporated by a German brand that brought it back to French territory

You forgot to mention the origin of the name. EB110: celebrated the 110th birthday of Ettore Bugatti, who was born in Italy. So the automaker already had something Italian before the 1990s...

He became French quite late. Most Bugatti were blue because like his son's he felt French loved the country and decided to race under the French color (blue France, Red Italy, Green England, Silver/white Germany...). There's no deny he was Italian. This car is a marvel of Italian design and passion. Still a dream car to me.

My favorite Bugatti. Behind this car there is the same engineer who worked on the F40 and Lancia Stratos, Nicola Materazzi.
I had to jump right the drive on this one. Couldn't wait!
Other interesting quirks of this car include the fact that even though the V12 is only 3.5L (and therefor each cylinder is tiny) it has 5 valves per cylinder. Also, the gearbox is not mounted as a separate piece behind the engine like in most rear-mid engine cars. Instead it is integrated into the side of the engine crankcase, the engine and gearbox is really one single package. That is also how they get drive to the front wheels, using concentric axles in the gearbox they can have power outputs both at the back and the front. It is an engineering marvel that any car tech-geek should take a closer look at!

In terms of engineering it was the most advanced sports car around in 1991 in Europe, and also the first production car to have a carbon fiber chassis if I remember correctly. This was really impressive considering that the Italian Bugatti was a small factory. Bugatti today has a large factory but essentially the engine is a VolksWagen derivative.
However, it was not the first sports car with the gearbox integrated into the engine block, even the Ferrari Testarossa was like that.

I bet having the passenger door control on the driver side is to unlatch it to let someone in, since the exterior door handle is hard to find for someone unfamiliar. Also, it was strange to me how all the buttons were arrows, and seemed to be square, so even the left/right ones were raelly the same as the up/down.

Michael Schumacher almost crashed one on a track when the brakes failed him at the end of a straight. He was "annoyed".
Crazy that he survived almost 30 years of car racing with just a few broken bones. Broke his neck racing motorcycles, but healed up fine. Had some close calls driving supercars like the Bugatti. Then he suffered massive brain damage in a freak skiing accident where he was wearing a helmet and wasn't even going very fast.

This means that the Veyron/Chiron might have become part of a more mainstream knowledge. But even that is debatable. By some standards even Bugatti might the brand "nobody knows about" (Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini are even more mainstream).

My first 1:24 model as a kid. Exactlty this version and blue color :) One of my favourite cars of all time.
I'm an 03 baby but somehow, growing up, my favourite toy was an eb110 my nanny got me for Christmas when I was like 5 or 6. its still on my shelf till this day.
One part of me: Wants to see the EB110

@@Desher_ER There was a guy who would take an AZ-1 to cars and coffee, look for any guys who looked rather tall and say he would give them $20 if they could fit. None of them got the money lol. I am a similar height to Doug so I am intrigued I must admit.

So we’re not gonna talk about the god awful after market radio and the literal piece of cardboard that the glovebox locks into
I also noticed the weird thing with the glove box. It looks like somebody pulled a shred of a Domino's pizza box from the trash and used it to repair the glove box latch.
@@Perforator2000 it looks like the cardboard with the cutout to hang them from display rods in shops, i was wondering if it could be but it would start fraying & tearing v quickly if it actually was, maybe it's just a steel or plastic part with a bad finish
@@SafffOneee Yeah, it just looked beaten and worn, or maybe it was a hasty repair job a previous owner did when they realized the parts don't exist. I'm not sure if it was a polished piece of metal reflecting different colors, or what.

The EB110 stands for what would have been Ettore Bugatti's 110th birthday.
It would be interesting if he would just Google these things so he could share that knowledge with viewers
@@callmeasshole It seems like to me that he is losing some of his passion for these special cars. I have been reading about cars for over 25 years now and seeing this would have been the best day of my life. When I was 11 years old my Uncle gave me a die cast model of this exact car.

Besides the Dauer EB110, there was also a company called "B-Engineering" who used the chassis end engine of the EB110 to build a crazy car called the "Edonis". If you could ever get your hands on one of those for a review that would be insanity, mainly due to the fact that (to my knowledge) only 21 were ever build.

Additional storage behind the seats, there was a BUGATTI suitcase, that fit end to end perfectly, kinda like a case for music keyboards, just prettier, leather, matching the interrior grey
