  • Gem Hunter Match, a puzzle match 3 sample game, is now available on the Unity Asset Store.
    The sample shows artists and developers how to harness the latest capabilities for 2D lighting in the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) in Unity 2022 LTS. See Custom Sprite Lit shaders, fixed camera elements, and other visual effects in action.

    Just a reminder some devs spent hundreds of dollars for a match 3 asset. And unity is like, here's everything you need to make this 💀

      So.. what do you mean? This is good right that Unity provides this?

    Unity is about to ruin $400 game templates sellings 😂
    Thanks for these ❤

      I don’t think the idea is not to offer just a another template but instead a bunch of learning materials. In this case Sprite Custom Lit shader nodes as an alternative to Sprite Lit

      @@bonzero i know, but why would anyone buy one of those $400 templates ever again when Unity is already doing a probably better job and for free?

      @bonzero Před měsícem

      @@umapessoa6051 I think some of those on the Asset Store are made with customization in mind, so maybe they are more prepared for it but sure, if Unity ones work for somebody needs, yes why not

    Is unity seriously doing a "how to make a cheap cashgrab game for mobile" tutorial :ss ???

      I've seen the Boat Attack demo exported as-is as a paid game, this is nothing really nee, honestly. I think most people can see through it, tho.

    URP is not suitable for mobile.

    • @bonzero
      @bonzero Před měsícem +5

      why not? there's tons of big mobile games made with URP. URP has come a long way since it was first announced..

    • @lavaslice
      @lavaslice Před měsícem +1

      @@bonzero just by enabling urp you get a huge performance hit compared to simple mobile shares. Yes, there are games using it but only if you want to support high and mid end devices, which is not an option if you want to get a high revenue game. I work on a top grossing android game, by enabling urp we would lose 20% of our users which are a significant source of revenue

    • @bonzero
      @bonzero Před měsícem +2

      @@lavaslice I don't know under a very strict performance budget or what features are in use, but generally I'm pretty sure it is the preferred option for mobile.. the statement: URP is not suitable for mobile sounds a bit extreme. that's why

    • @lavaslice
      @lavaslice Před měsícem +1

      @@bonzero yes may be a bit extreme, but my issue mainly with unity on these past years is that mobile developers targeting low end mobile devices are totally negleted, where their bigger customers are, every new feature added by unity since 5.6 has decreased performance with exception of ECS and the latest ANR mitigations they did for the application pause timeout. Meanwhile the average device performance on android keeps dropping due to developing countries buying tons of low end devices.

      @@lavaslice If that is the case, I guess Custom SRP is the only way to satisfy everyone, or just stick to Built In.
      I think I would consider using Custom SRP, but that is just me.
