@@PcCentric Hi! :)
Should have shown 1% lows because thats where the biggest difference most likely will be in cpu bound scenarios
Average FPS is all that really matters.

Great vid and timing! I'm currently still waiting on my ram, I've got every other component. I just want to start the build haha. Thanks for all these videos, they have been super helpful for me.
Start the build and add ram later
Thanks for making this video I REALLY NEEDED THIS👍👍
👍🏼 good guidance clearly explained as always!
Thanks for actually answering what i was looking for. Other videos tend to go off

Thanks a lot, this content is just what I need at the moment
Excellent, excellent video, thanks for sharing!
And as if by magic the day I decide to research ram this video is made, love the vids benchmarcus😁
Like others, would love to see how timings effect ram, so 3600c16 vs 3600c18, as well as 3200c16 vs 3600c18, as prices for these vary
Same. Kinda hard to find content highlighting the latency as well
I would say in all cases, latency is important (mainly affected by primaries and secondaries), bandwidth is subjective based on the workload, if there's enough bandwidth per second, its not an issue (affected by secondaries and tertiaries).

Very helpful, thank you 🙂
Personal experience is that RAM Latency times and cooling effeciency have the greatest impact on RAM performance. Motherboard expandability choice of storage medium and a high quality PSU(that goes about 200 to 250 watts over what your build needs for overclocking headroom) are also big factors that affect your build performance.
3200 CL14 or 3600 CL16 are the sweet spots. I've tested alot of ram in my PC with a 12900K and after those speeds the difference becomes very negligible. Personally i have a 3200 with 14-14-14-36 timings and it works great.
you didn't mention anything about the CL timings they play equally important role and this video shouldn't have been made without mentioning them
true
If he included different CL timings, say CL14 to CL20, and at all the different speeds to see the impact, it would be fairly "scientific" but only with results regarding the Intel chip.
Would be much much better if he had a range of cpu's from both Intel and AMD, a huge bonus would be to see a higher end ddr3 platform in the comparsion as well :) Could 1800Mhz CL9 compete with 3200Mhz CL20 Rgb gamer ram? Ddr3 triplechannel vs ddr4 dualchannel?
@@bafon the hard part would be finding a cpu that has enough cores and still has a good single core performance that was on ddr3 but it would be cool to see some ddr3 vs ddr4 shoot outs
What are CL timings?
@@philosopherkurdmuffins9835 CAS latency. The Higher the speed of the RAM, the higher the latency (slower), unless you pay more for B-die (look that up on yt) which can have high clock speed and low CL timings.
First time seeing one of you videos. Was alright. Some pointers: 2.133 is not "the motherboard being conservative", its the DDR4 standard defined by JEDEC. Also it would be nice to have an AMD system in there as well. Also also some games that are heavy on simulation like Total War or Anno.
LOL Don't feel bad Marcus... I haven't finished Uncharted Lost Legacy either and I purchased it on day one! Awesome Video! Lots of takeaways from this one. Also got another tip from ya in this vid... Gotta be more animated.

super helpful as usual 👍
I'm looking for RAM and couple questions have come up for me
1. Is Vengeamce RGB Pro (can be SL) good (particularly for i5 12400F build)?
2. I haven't seen reviews about T-Force Delta RGB. Is that good?
3. If I had to choose between these which one would be better (for i5 12400F)?
4. If there is any other under 80€ RAM that performs as well or better then I'd love to know.
I know nothing about the pc world. But these videos are helping out a ton!
Def agree in the CL timings from other comments
What I've seen from other sources seems to day that 3200 at CL16 is basically the equiv of 3600 CL18 so just go with whichever is better priced
for example a corsair vengeance pro RGB CL16 @ 3200 MHZ for 2x8 (16gb) is $88 and a CL18 @ 3600 MHZ is $105
so you're paying basically 20% more for the same speed
This is just plainly, not true. While they have the same latency, 3600 has more bandwidth per second. Think of ram as short term "memory" for a brain. The faster you can remember it, the more you can put each cycle (Hz) of the brain to use. It doesn't just come down to latency. You wouldn't choose 2600 cl13 over 3200 cl16.
@@jakobe_bryantgaming5580 no.
they are essentially the same in performance my guy.

RAM speed and configuration are more significant when you are having an iGPU, since they rely 100% on main RAM.
I am witnessing this first handedly - my laptop Ryzen5500U is significantly faster with a dual channel 2x8GB 3200Mhz instead of a single stick.
If you already have a powerful GPU with enough dedicated GDDR memory and dual channel main RAM the speed does not affect so much the performance.
Waiting for this video...🥰🥰 we want more videos like this...
Yes, ram speed definetally affects framerates in games. It also depends what cpu/motherboard/gpu you have. If you aren't GPU-bottlenecked, faster ram definetally helps, it just depends on the game. For example in Call of Duty Warzone you really do need the fastest and lowest latency ram you possibly can get. Fast Samsung B-die espeically when tuned to low latency and high bandwidth can increase your framerates by up to 20-50fps with an overclocked CPU as long as you are not limited by your graphics card.
Well, as far of the video the higher the resolution the less it matters. I play 2k so I guess shouldn't be concern about ram speed that much. It is not worth the hazel
The amount of gain matters. IF you go from 1333 to 1866, its easy to show a double digit FPS increase. When you go from 3200 to 3600 you are looking at 1-3 FPS increase. Also giving the PC enough gigs of RAM can have similar and even better gains, bear in mind that gigs of RAM usage scales with most applications and window's and chrome eats loads of RAM and in fact on 32 gigs and below window's off loads a whole lot of gigs worth to your pagefile for your SSD! So having 64 gigs of RAM means almost no pagefile usage and free's up how the PC uses resources when gaming.
There's one potential issue with this test, although I do not know how significant. ... When testing the same RAM at different speeds, you have to take into account the CAS, RAS, etc, latency 'timings'. (Like e.g. CL timings.) The timings of the RAM on one particular set of RAM, will increase as the frequency of the RAM increases. That means that the processing of data that the RAM does, takes longer. E.g. the time it takes for the RAM to respond to a signal to work with data, etc.
However if you had four sets of RAM with the same timings at your chosen frequencies of RAM. Then you could likely see more increase in performance.
Ya ram timings have negligible performance impact.
Should be comparing the same cl timings at different frequency to have a more apples to apples comparisons.
Thx for the vid.
Can u do a rgb review, reviewing things like icue and other applications
You should have explained cl timings and how that can effect performance. A lot of people get confused by it, as I did when I started researching. cl16 3600mhz or cl19 3600mhz makes a big difference.
I'm waiting a few months to upgrade, ddr5 hopefully releases in November.
Nice video! Have a great weekend sir!

I just got a new 3060 Ti, and my fps wasn't really matching what I thought it would in some games, then I had a look into it and all the games were cou bound, having a ryzen cpu, I know ram speed affects that a lot and just the ram speed itself, so ocd my 16gb 2400mhz to 3000mhz and escape from tarkov went from 50fps avg, to 110 in an instant, while loading faster too

hey ! just wanted to know what do you do with your old builds pc
use to be that good ram gave you up to 10 % more fps so what has changed.... is it the mem controller on the cpus or how games are run now or how the ddr 5 ram works now ? or Moby windows made some changes ?
War zone loves also higher ram ...I made the same error with my pc...the ram speed was 2133 and then I activated the xmp I was amazed to see it changed

I have a 3080ti paired with 5950x with 4x8 4000mhz corsair ven with huge stutter.. my cpu won’t support xmp default since it only supports up to 3200mhz ram. Should i change ram speed to 3200mhz after turning on xmp? Or do I have to change the ram timings manually?
Pc centric I’m planning on buying 16gb crucial ballistix 3200mhz cl16 or patriot viper black out cl18 3600mhz for 12700k what do you think???
I turned on XMP for my ram and it was usually fine but my pc would crash because of it every now and then...idk why but i ended up just turning it off. I'm at 4k tho and my gpu is almost always at 95 to 100 percent so i imagine its not a huge deal
For me, it confirmed my choice to go with 3600MHz ram in the new build im currently putting together. It would be good to know which 3600MHz ram is best.
As long your cpu support 3600mhz, 11 generation for intel only support 3200 now. If you do XMP tu unlock 3600 speed you must be carefull with warranty issue from intel

Sorry for being a noob for asking this but does it even matter if all I do is play at 1080p 60fps locked? Because, like you said, it only matters if the game is CPU bound which is usually the case if one is planning to play at a higher fps.
