I liked Sutherland as Big Boss in GZ and PP, however Hayter is Snake and cannot be replaced.
Hayter is Solid and Keifer is bb and Venom
My problem with keifer is not his voice acting, I actually really liked his voice but he talks in the entire Phantom Pain for under 4 minutes (I'm not joking, look it up)
I feel like it did kind of make sense for Sutherland to be Snake in 5 because it's a different person, but I do think they did it in the worst way

A major issue with this video is the fact that you lump both Venom Snake and Big Boss into one and have facts that would be reserved for Venom Snake in with Big Boss, when it's very clearly shown at the very end of Phantom Pain that Venom is a body double created by Big Boss, the medic from Ground Zeroes who was psychologically conditioned to believe he is Big Boss, created to take the fall for him, as well as create the legend of Big Boss, and serves as Big Boss' very own phantom. It was Venom that was in the coma and lost an arm, not Big Boss.
yes but at the end it also states that they both are still big boss because he venom became the legend which also means us as the player is big boss as the fans are what created the legend of big boss to so yes he is big boss even tho he isnt a clone and was manipulated and mentally rewired to believe hes big boss kojima tells us that he is big boss which is us the one who created the character at the start of the game

Question. On the fact "Big Boss doesn’t have a sense of smell" the example used is venom snake coming back from a mission stinking like dung. Since the medic was hypnotized into believing he was Big Boss, did he psychosomatically lose his sense of smell?
I would just say yes because if that was something known by others about BB then V's identity might be called into question if he could casually smell things out of nowhere.
To be exact big boss can infact smell however that codec where the boss mentions that big boss can't smell isn't canon and is only just an in game joke by kojima on the fact that video games don't have a smell mechanic (ie not being able to smell the game's ingame environment) however canonically both big boss and venom snake can smell since they both know the smell of a cigar

For all the people claiming Venom Snake and Big Boss aren’t the same person, that’s true. However Big Boss himself told Venom Snake that they share the Big Boss title together. So Venom is Big Boss as well. I’m not saying I like it, but that’s what happened.
Venom is effectively the mental doppelganger of Big Boss, even if the original personality sometimes comes through, Venom is still close enough to BB to be considered the same person
They do share a title but Volgin quit fighting when he realized the real Big Boss has blue eyes. The phantom has green eyes, and is not the same person in fact. I guess that leaves it up to us to distinguish the canon from the legend. Knowing that the medic has his own unique injuries and hallucinations that John never sustained incline me to honor their individual experiences as different characters.
On the other hand Raiden went through VR to be just like Solid Snake (they shared the title for about 5 mins 😅) but we have no problem with the narrative going above and beyond to distinguish them. We know Raiden is the third Cyborg Ninja since MG2SS (Black Ninja, Kyle Schneider), but when we say "The Cyborg Ninja" I always know that we're talking about Frank Jaeger and not the meme in Jack the Ripper. That's how I see it anyway.

Big Boss believing in Santa always gave me this mental image of The Boss, this stoic, pragmatic realist, using her expert stealth skills that won us World War 2, to hide presents, eat the milk and cookies, and make just enough clatter every Christmas Eve to make young John have happiness in his heart.
However, Venom Snake is not Big Boss. It’s really confusing but this story is amazing.

I wouldnt say big boss is a villian, hes more of a person who was willing had to do what he to do to fight for what he believed in and protect those he cared about, even if people disagreed with it.
He literally brainwashes one of his top soldiers to be his scapegoat and to continue the war the economy, big boss is a villain man.

A MOH would have brought to much attention, there would have been a ceremony and since there’s so few of them it’s a big deal. In real life during the vietnam was a green beret named bob howard got 3, but it took him a few decades becouse it would have gotten I. The way of his work, he would have had to retire, which is why at the time we snuck in to records and swiped the papers from his commander downgrading it to a silver star so he could keep operating

People are saying that it isnt big boss in MGSV but kojima made it at the end of the game say "i am big boss and so are you" which is saying that our character the one we create at the start is also big boss venom is him too he is a big reason for the legend that is big boss and is saying that us as the player is big boss since its our character we customized at the start that is venom snake aka big boss. And the fans are the creators of the legend of big boss so we are big boss. its actually quite well done by kojima but people done realise or understand it
I was shocked you didn’t go more into the dichotomy of Naked Snake and Venom Snake, as they are both Big Boss but different. If you do any follow-up vids, I’d be curious to see if you can dig up more on Quiet. Despite her…outfit…I really enjoyed the character and wish we knew what happens to her after the events of MGS5. 😊

Great video. Gotta point out some things though.
The thumbnail you used in the Solid Snake video is the Smash version, which uses a Naked Snake face on a redone MGS2 Solid Snake outfit.
And the Big Boss face camo is based on the Solidus corpse. The missing left eye tells them apart both times.
In The Phantom Pain, Venom does have lines commenting on how things smell, which gives it away that he isn't Big Boss.

Venom is NOT Big Boss. Venom spent 9 years in a Coma, NOT Big Boss. BB never had a prosthetic arm and Ishmael didnt visit BB in the Hospital, BB visited Venom AS Ishmael.

11:32 kojima explained that when “big boss” was killed by solid in “metal gear 2: solid snake” that was in fact his clone that we played as in “MGS 5 the phantom pain” as the real big boss went into hiding due to world wide death threats, I understood that when big boss and solid snake met at the end of “MGS 4 guns of the patriots” it was for the first and last time which was why solid seemed stunned as he believed (along with liquid and solidus) he killed him years ago… so where does Naomi come in to restore big bosses body as there was no mention of the real big boss in a critical burned state?
Actually, the Big Boss killed in MG2 is Naked, the original Big Boss. Venom, the player character of MGSVTPP, is killed in the first Metal Gear game. The easiest way to verify this is that the tape you can see at the end of TPP is labeled "Intrude N313", which is the same operation Snake undergoes during MG1. The "real" Big Boss's body was, in fact, burned, whereas Venom was probably taken out by missiles (as that's the most common way to kill him in MG1)

Jack is a common nickname for people named John (for some reason). For example, JFK's nickname was also Jack.
Something that I thought was interesting is that Big Boss doesn’t have a sense of smell but his phantom venom mentions smelling something sweet at the quarantine lab hinting at who he really was.
Where I’m from, Jack is a nickname for John. Not really sure why but that’s just how it is.

I’ve played more of Big Boss than Solid Snake. MGS3 was my first MGS game I’ve ever played. I’ve played MGS4, but only watched the other Solid Snake games via CZcams. Peace Walker and Phantom Pain were the only MGS games I played constantly.

I feel like bunch of these points are simply explained away by the fact its not Big Boss, but that it's Venom Snake. Like Eli feeling no connection, or Big Boss appearing at the end of MGS4 with two hands.
Venom and Big boss are one entity. Venom was the reason the Big boss moniker was so famous after the eighties. When talking about one you are actually talking about two. In japan during feudal times there was a muskateer named "Magoichi Saika" who was rumored to actually be three different men or a group of men but was likely just a name each man used to have every exploit go to this "one" man and conserve anonymity for themselves. The authorities would be looking for a different face every time they hear stories of the man. A man who is almost omnipresent, was seen everywhere and fought in many battles. A man of many exploits and a "legendary" warrior. "Magoichi" was the leader of a group of MERCENARIES much like boss in the MGS series. Hideo likely got the idea of a renegade band of mercenaries fighting the powers that be from the mercenary group from japanese history.
