How do Black Europeans experience colorism within their communities? How does colorism play out differently in women's daily lives as opposed to men's? What does privilege look like in conversations about colorism?
In this episode we discuss the pervasive, hurtful and divisive character of discrimination based on skin tone among members of the same ethnic or racialized group. Although colorism has been extensively researched and discussed within African descendant communities in the US and the UK, conversations about colorism in continental Europe remain largely invisible.
Disclaimer: this conversation is not about Black-White biraciality. Colorism is relevant for Black-White biracial people, but Black-White biraciality (which implicates a white parent) comes with a different/additional set of privileges and challenges. @Kevin Adams De taal die je spreekt is een Europese taal. Waarschijnlijk het land waarin je woont ook, yet ben je hier uit aan t leggen wrm dit wrm dat. Op een bepaald punt moeten we onszelf ook afvragen wat we willen. Het zwarte ras is een duidelijke aanduiden dag van vandaag. Ik vraag me echt af wat deze on belangrijke uitspraken toe te voegen hebben aan het onderwerp noch aan onze situatie. Feit blijft dat we mensen hebben die donker zijn, maar niet door hebben dat ze donker zijn. En jij hebt t over Eurocentrische uitspraken…….? Dit gedrag hier slim willen spelen is een wittemans gedrag. Vraag een Afrikaan hoe hij zichzelf aanduid. As a black men or as an dark men..

Very nice! I really enjoyed the conversation. Vooral dat stukje over zwarte mannen en hoe colorist zij eigenlijk zijn. Ik denk dat het ook interessant zou om ook te praten over hoe coloris light skint vrouwen kunnen zijn wanneer het gaat om daten. Want om eerlijk te ken ik veel light skint vrouwen (sommige zijn mixed race sommige niet) die alleen met witte mannen of light skint mannen willen daten.

@Kevin Adams the last part brings up something interesting. Dat de moeders die slechte ervaringen hebben gehad met donkere mannen hun denkwijze bewust/ onbewust meegeven aan hun kinderen. Hetgeen Vindt natuurlijk ook in reverse plaatst. Key note: weest bewust van wat je meegeeft aan je kinderen?
