Super intéressant episode! Zelf in een mix Koppel zijn dit zeer vragen die me bezig houden.

Mooi evenwichtig en respectvol gevoerd gesprek. Ik vraag mijn drie tieners regelmatig of ze problemen ervaren die met hun afkomst of uiterlijk te maken hebben. En ze vinden het bijna een rare vraag en ze zeggen nog geen enkele negatieve ervaringen daarmee te hebben. Op een eenmalige scheldpartij van een dronken flapdrol na. Of dat is omdat we in de stad wonen, in Nederland wonen of dat de situatie aan verbeteren is kan ik niet vertellen. Als ik dit soort gesprekken volg op Amerikaanse kanalen dan sta ik met mijn oren te klapperen hoe gepolariseerd de discussie daar is. Ik denk dat gesprekken zoals deze belangrijk zijn om begrip over te brengen voor elkaars standpunt. Er zullen altijd mensen zijn die verdeeldheid en haat willen zaaien, dus tegengas blijft belangrijk.

I'm a coloured (mixed) person from South Africa. Most people try to classify us by referring to half something and half another. But here in South Africa being coloured is a completely separate and unique identity. Non of us half identify as anything. We fully identify as being coloured. We have become our own people.

17:40 No, racism isn't about being white (European) or not being white. Racism between other colors is just as common. Don't use your own (limited) experiences to define a thing that is global. Dark Indians will experience huge amounts of racism from lighter skinned Indians. Same with Africans and Afro-Americans. It used to be the same here in Europe. If you had tanned skin then you worked on the land and were poor. That's why light skin is considered more desirable, wealth! Genetics weren't even invented back then.
