The 'Rock'-Part is actually accurate to the german tale where the wolf is not really killed but only cut open to free Red Riding Hood and the Grandmother, so they fill the belly of the wolf with stones (after they climb out) and sew it shut. After the wolf wakes up he's thirsty and when he goes to the river (oder a lake), to drink he falls into the river/lake and drowns. Funny they chose this detail for the adapation.

I gotta be honest, I'm with Catherine Hardwicke on this one. The first Twilight book is not Shakespeare, but it's not trying to be, and if you take it at face value rather than buying into the Twi-hate, it's a very enjoyable book. It was clearly a self-indulgent labor of love from the author. It was like a nice pint of ice cream. People just like to give it crap for not being gourmet gelato. The sequels were obviously written too quickly after the surprise success of the first book; they're badly conceived, the love triangle is just there to draw in money, the pacing is weird, the overall plot begins to derail around the time Bella starts hallucinating about Edward, and has gone completely off the tracks by the end of the fourth book when we've suddenly got X-men superpowers and half-breed babies with cringey names. That said...it's not like Hardwicke did a good job directing the Twilight movie. It's a disaster. So while I agree with her opinion on the series, she probably also just did badly enough to be fired. And Red Riding Hood was just embarrassing.
I could have sworn when I watched this movie when I was a kid that amanda seyfried ended up as a wolf and her grandmother knew and that's why she gave her the cloak because it protected her somehow. Maybe it was after the credits? Idk I remember that vividly.
I thought that happened in this movie and was so excited to see Dylan's reaction and when it didn't got so confused. Your comment made me realise that's where I remembered it from, such a good version of the story.
Dude, I've figured it out. The father turned the grandmother into the stew. That's why the Main Character looked so horrified and asked what kind of stew it was.
I saw him in a different thing and then I watched twilight and then I saw the other thing again like years later and was like: where do I know him from? Ohhhh... he's-the-dude-from-twilight
The stuffing the dad with rocks was a nod to a short fable about a wolf who swallowed these goat children and he passed out. The mother goat came home to find all but one of her children gone. So she and her last kid found the wolf, cut him open, freed all her kids, and then stuffed him with rocks. When the wolf woke up, he was thirsty. He went to drink from the river and drowned. This movie sucks tho. I’m glad I never watched it.

I actually like this movie but it could be better. There is a deleted scene where Valarie goes to a new place with her father implying that she is now a wolf. In retrospect I think that would have been a better ending. Valarie always wanted to leave Dogerhorn/wood (whatever the village is called), she didn't want to marry Henry, she lost her sister (and eventually her grandmother), when things went bad people that she thought were her friends revealed their true colors, and her mother is a liar and is hugely at fault for her sisters death and all the chaos that happens. Besides Peter Valarie had every other reason to want to leave her village. It was is also very dark and most of the original versions of most fairytales are very dark.
@@kalelbutler4147 that's the reason why SHE didn't think anything was wrong - audience and writers however are free to notice that little, rather uncomfortable detail
Honestly when I first started watching I was like "Maybe there is no werewolf, there's just this normal wolf and this dude who comes in, poisons/drugs the villagers of the places he goes to to make them hallucinate the wolf as whatever they imagined it to be or based on descriptions they'd heard from each other. And was going to trick them into paying him to get rid of the wolf and then kill one of them while they were all hallucinating and use the werewolf reverting to its human form when dead as a cover-up." which honestly, in retrospect, would have been a more interesting plot.
This is the trivia on IMDB: Trivia Amanda Seyfried had a bad experience with Shiloh Fernandez at a dinner party, so Catherine Hardwicke had to persuade the actress to give him a chance. Sounds like Shiloh should have been recast. Wtf.
I think if I recall correctly, whilst the sister was crushing on him (still kinda Ew), they weren't engaged or even in a relationship, and the mum kept trying to push Valerie on him instead, later getting them engaged in the movie.
fun fact, in the original grims version of red riding hood, it DID end with them filling the wolfs stomach with rocks and throwing him into the ocean, alive.
Or that he got a last minute priest costume from Party City before having to attend a Halloween party and walks in with just the shirt and like blue jeans.
When I was like 13-14 I wasn’t into twilight. I was into this movie since I liked the actors better. And when I say that I was into it I mean it. The grandmother was one of the biggest missed opportunities in this movie; just imagine if Grandma was intentionally written to be a witch. She could've been possibly the only person who could have stopped her son (maybe she had even killed his dad-- that might have been interesting and given him motivation to kill her). Plus, the freaking cloak could have served some purpose to the story other than ~pretty~. If it had some protective spells woven into it which served some plot point towards the end then I wouldn't question why the movie is named after a hunk of fabric that does literally nothing. And then, to wrap things up, Seyfried's character could have learned magic while living in her grandmother's cabin and finished weaving the cloak. It's not perfect but it's an improvement. I'm perfectly fine with useless characters and roads to nowhere as long as they're entertaining, but Granny was a character who could have patched up SO MANY plotholes, I can't help feeling disappointed. All aboard the Grandma Train...
Have you seen the Once Upon a Time episode for Little Red Riding Hood? From what I remember, they did everything right with the story in that one. (Episode 1.15, Red-Handed, according to a quick Google search)
@@CiarnaK i LOVE that show so much! The way they've woven all the fairytales together into one perfectly chaotic big mess which actually makes sense.... just wow
The movie is based on a fairy tale (its called "Rotkäppchen" what is the German name for little red riding hood, and that is how the villagers call the girl, because she wears it all the time, it's her nickname, so it makes absolutely sense, that the movie is named after the fabric) and she is just the grandma in it. The hole movie is different, so it's nice, that at least the grandma is the normal grandma.

I thought so too, maybe a different movie?? Or maybe it happened in Once Upon A Time…
@@Disgrace_917, I think it might have been after the credits maybe? I'm not sure. I no longer have the movie and don't want to buy it to find out. 😅
@@rileybrown8971 it’s not on Netflix anymore either. At least not where I’m from. 😭

I love the Once Upon a Time story where red riding hood was the wolf.
And then she had a boyfriend named Peter so it’s “Peter and the Wolf”, their minds🤯
Yesss that was so well executed
I love that show with all my heart.
I thought that happened in this movie and was so excited to see Dylan's reaction and when it didn't got so confused. Your comment made me realise that's where I remembered it from, such a good version of the story.
@Emma Chenski ikr, the last one was so disappointing but the rest was good

*”Dad from Twilight”* will forever be that actors identity 😅
I know right!😂
Everybody loves Charlie
I knew him from Revolution before I knew he was on Twilight then I really liked him on Zoo

Dyaln: guesses everyone and their dog trying to find out who the werewolf is
reveal: *happens*
Dylan: yeahhh I knew
If I ever write a script, I'll need Dylan to supervise it
The actress that he was roasting so hard is my dad's best friend's daughter lol
She's not that bad to be fair, there's potential. But the love-interest-turned-wolf? I had a hard time watching him try to act.
It's also in multiple versions of the Red Riding Hood story, I think that's probably what they drew from
@@morley364 That makes sense
They do that in a lot of fairytales with wolfs in it

As a Canadian I feel the need to mention that I know people who have used maple syrup in their hair…

They don't realize it, probably.

The opening the belly and putting rocks in it is actually how the original story was. All of the original Grimm tales were rally grim >.>
I love how Dylan always compares cringey love triangle movies to twilight

To be fair, the director of Twilight Directed this too, so he has the right to compare it for this movie😂

Amanda Seyfried had a bad experience with Shiloh Fernandez at a dinner party, so Catherine Hardwicke had to persuade the actress to give him a chance.
Sounds like Shiloh should have been recast. Wtf.
it would have been way better if it turned out the purple coat dude made up this whole werewolf story to cover up for murdering his wife

Its just a smart move. If you name everyone a suspect, you have to be right about one of them 😅
wait - so if her sister was the other man's daughter, wouldn't her sister have been engaged to her own half brother??
no, lucy was never engaged to henry because they were half-siblings. valerie and henry aren’t related by blood

@@berhailnour7070 I mean, while objectively I can see the film sucks, I still kinda enjoy it... but then again I have trash taste in movies so 🤷😂
The grandmother was one of the biggest missed opportunities in this movie; just imagine if Grandma was intentionally written to be a witch.
All aboard the Grandma Train...
that's a very interesting idea
Have you seen the Once Upon a Time episode for Little Red Riding Hood? From what I remember, they did everything right with the story in that one. (Episode 1.15, Red-Handed, according to a quick Google search)
@@CiarnaK I couldn't quite get into that show when it first aired but you've piqued my interest. Thanks, I'll give it another try!
