  • We use Dell 5300 and 5490 along with a Microsoft SurfaceBook to explain and demonstrate the differences in various touch screen technologies, including Capacitive, Resistive and Digitizer touchscreens. We use Dell 557W, Dell 556W, Dell 579X, MS Surface Stylus, a rubber tip, finger and a generic active stylus in the process.

TL;DR: Dell uses Wacom AES, not EMR; Surface uses N-trig, Wacom's Bamboo Ink/Ink Plus have both but u need to switch modes by holding the 2 side bottons together for a few sec. Bluetooth doesnt mean u can write on it, it's the pen and laptop's pen tech that matters
    ----- full explaination-----
Dell uses Wacom AES technology, also seen on SOME HP (HP hav both, some are N-trig, some are Wacom AES), Levono, Acer. While Microsoft and Asus, uses N-trig
Wacom Bamboo Ink has both AES and N-trig, but u need to switch it's mode between AES or N-trig by pressing both of it's side buttons together
Still Others like Wacom's own tablets, Samsung's Note and S Tab series and some other higher end art machines uses Wacom EMR, which the pen itself dont hav a battery or needs to charge at all and dont work with any above active stylus tech
The bluetooth function on ANY stylus is only for calling out the Windows Ink Workspace, has nothing to do with pen's writing/drawing function AT ALL.
    e.g.
My machine is an Acer Concept D Ezel 3 which uses Wacom AES (higher end ezel 7 uses EMR), but i came from Surface Pro, and my bamboo ink works on both by just switching modes.
    ---bonus---
As for performance(IMO): EMR >> AES ~= N-trig if you're slow drawing(jitters in AES & N-Trig); EMR >= AES ~= N-trig if fast drawing and if u have software stablizing, it doesn't matter much
    just an FYI

My biggest problem is parallax. I have a Dell 7373 and a PN338M pen which is supported by the laptop. It works great, EXCEPT for the parallax that I can't seem to fix. In Sketchbook the cursor will show directly under the point of the pen, but when I start drawing, the line or dot that appears is a few pixels up and to the right of the cursor. There doesn't seem to be any way to get this fixed. I've used the calibration tool in Win10, but it's useless.

I recently purchased a used HP 2710p without the pen and I need a compatible stylus for it because the 2710p seemed to use an older generation resistive screen that does not support finger touches. • @giorgioresidori8398
    @giorgioresidori8398 Před 3 lety +2

I had looked at the smartphones, the resistives were precise, I remember the first htc, the problem is that they consumed too much battery. The market then move on to the cheaper capacitives, but the problem is that the exact position is not known and cannot be drawn precisely on the display of current mobile phones, use pencil rubber. There was only one smartphone, the Note (the real) NOTE from samsung, which exploited the technology of wacom, and positioned references to the corners to be able to give the ordered and abscissa indications. To overcome the problem on capacitives, a pen with an electric charge (if I understand correctly) and with a particular tip is used.
But i never bought these pens and i never tried them.
Furthermore, some time behind a house he had made a system to make a non-touch screen become touch.
I saw your video, I'm interested in understanding which pens are good for the Dell 5300 touch, both from and from other manufacturers, even inexpensive ones.

Well, the conclusion is that Microsoft is a mess, and so their Windows 10 partners, for such headaches, compatible/non compatible, faulty software/OS, slow app launch, tons of virus, slow and disasters updates, better go with Linux/Android, faster, cheaper, way more reliable and at least Google is trying to unify those stylus with the USI - Universal Stylus Initiative

Hi Carlos; I would not agree with that, although I certainly understand your sentiment. Win 10 is fast, secure and the Linux, OSx, and Android certainly have their bugs and security problems too. Thanks for the comment.

Completely frustrated!! Which pen actually worked?! This goes by SO fast, and you never say the name of the pen, clearly. WHICH ONE WORKED!! Why are you rushing, and speaking so fast? We can't make out which number is which. How about you overlay a box with the name/number of the pen you're talking about. We need to know!

hi. what is the best tech? lowest lag, best palm rejection, best pressure sensitivity? i want to by a 2 in 1 or tablet pc like Microsoft surface. most important for me would be lag and palm rejection as i am not an artist. (also refresh rate) i use a samsung note 10+ which works really well. only improvement i would like is less lag which they did improve with latter models. i would like to know which laptops use which tech so i know what to look for. i think wacom which is used by samsung is generally accepted as the best in the business but i also here very good things about Microsoft surface. asus make awesome laptops at very good pricing but i can't find much about how its writing tech compares. lenovo i think use wacom so that would be a good option but i am not sure about any of this. i would like a simple table that shows laptop brands and models that state which tech it uses and then comparative specs listing:
    1. tech type,
    2. latency,
    3. pressure sensitivity,
    4. palm rejection rating.
5 screen refresh rate also improtant
anyone know where i can find this?
ideally i would tablet or 2in1 with 32 gb ram, 1tb ssd, good amount of ports, good screen res, high refresh rate, writing tech. (idealy with graphics card)
microsoft surface and asus rog tablets seem good and even have rear facing cameras so a very mobile solution.
lenovo yoga, hp spectre, dell, asus also have options but i don't know which has best screen tech.
samsung galaxy pro 360 probably uses wacom and could probably be a great for me but not available in south africa.
asus flip 13 is a very compelling option but not sure of the writing tech.
lenovo seems like it may be the best all-round option but not sure which model.
    please help!!
    thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hii, I own a Lenovo ideapad c340. I'm looking for an alternative active stylus as the original stylus isn't available anywhere. Do you have any suggestions for that ?
