  • The most iconic landmark in Reykjavík city is Hallgrimskirkja church. Hallgrimskirkja is a lutherian parish church which stands 74.5 meters tall, making it the largest church in Iceland and one of its largest structures. It is named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson, author of the Passion Hymns. In winter (October - April) the church is open 09:00- 17:00, the tower closing at 16:30. In summer (May - September) it is open 09:00 - 21:00, the tower closing at 20:30. The tower has an admission fee, 1000kr, tickets can be bought in the church shop inside the building.
    In this video we will be entering the church to take a look around. We will go up the tower for a 360 degree view over Reykjavik city.

    it's smaller than I had imagined. I like it's neo-gothic-brutalist structure, and also the way the sunlight comes in through the windows.

      Yes, the brutal style is meant to represent basalt columns.

    Then God said: “The water under the heavens must flow into one place, and the dry ground must come forth.”a And so it happened. 10 God called the dry ground “land,”b but the pooled water he called “sea.”c And God saw that it was good.d 11 Then God said: “Let the land produce grass and plants yielding seed and also fruit trees yielding fruit with seed in it, according to their kind.' And so it happened. 12 The land began to produce grass and plants yielding seed,e and also trees yielding fruit with seed in it, according to their kinds. Then God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
    Very sad you have not that good climate conditions as in Indonesia or other warmer volcano countries , now the growth of grass , plants , trees is going very very slow.
    Volcanoes are making land in GODS NAME
    The beginning is still here as also the end was already here lurking in the ground, planetary resources.
    GOD The Alpha and the Omega.

    Thanks. I have been intruiged by this church for years. I didn't like the interior, its very austere and bland inside, I would even go so far as to say dystopian. I know its a result of the protestant iconoclastic ideology but the highlight is the fake stain glassed window.

    • @IcelandHotSpots
      @IcelandHotSpots  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes it might feel a bit spartan. I'm not very familiar with many churches though.
