Should have put the same ball joint you used for the top at the bottom. The 3.2 evo uses ball joints top and bottom and is a common upgrade on e36s
I just did this job a few days ago. It looks so much easier when you use the proper tools. I used a 20 ton hydraulic press to remove the rubber and or inner sections of the bushings. Then I cut out the outer members of the bushings with a saw and pounded them out. You've done some nice work, like you, I am looking forward to driving the results.

It wasn't discussed or shown. All rubber bushings must be preloaded before torquing them into place. This is especially important on the RTABS as not doing this will lead to premature wear and add/remove spring rate to the rear. The RTABS are not easy to preload since the carrier blocks all access to the bolt once installed. There is a tool to set the correct carrier angle before finishing the installation.
Also I noticed he put in rubber bushings on the lower knuckle instead of Ball joints like m3 is supposed to have top and bottom.
Levon Stepanyan if you look at the old ones, that is what he had stock. His year car does call for rubber in the lower per the ETK. If the ball joint version is an upgrade, I would have gone with that.
@@Braymond141 def an upgrade I've done it on a few 328s. I'm sure the new hardened rubber will make a noticeable difference nonetheless! You still on BF? Havnt been on there in awhile.

I was going to point this out. The ball joint is a M3 thing. When I did my rear end in my e36, I changed them to ball joints.

Can you or have you done a in depth rear differential overhaul? I think I have a broken c clip on the axle cup but im not sure, it'd be cool to watch a video before pulling it.
Where did you get the lower control arm bushing remover/installer kit?! I am trying to find a good set for my E46.

This is super informative. So, the OEM PN update for the e36 RTAB is now the split case, non flanged e46 style. I just installed these and it feels like the back has a little passive, rear steering thing happening during highway lane changes and I'm wondering if it's the new style bushing, vs the old flanged one. Anyone got any comparison notes or had a similar experience with going to the updated bushings from the flanged style?

You should look into "Millway Motorsport" A swedish company that makes probably the best bushings and suspension stuff money can buy exclusively for BMW. Pretty much every single serious build in europe sports their stuff, and they sell a huge ammount of parts to companies around the nurburgring.
mechanic said my lower control arm bushing is cracked for my acura tsx (120, 000 miles). Car runs fine and no strange noise. Should I replace lower control arm? Or should I wait until I hear noise.
Will cost around $500 to replace here in NYC area. Does that seem about right

Keep in mind the RTAB needs to be aligned when tightening the bracket so that the up-down movement doesn't tear the bushing apart from the metal cylinder in the middle.

Great Moose content and love E36 BMW big time. BUT!!! I Spy With My Little Eye Something That is 1973 Toyota Celica!! (Or 74?) One of my best friend's had one of those years back and it was a very cool little ripper. Not big power but big handling and What a Looker!! Weird, I thought the rear lower knuckle bushing was a ball joint on all M3's. Either way using two ball joints is a better option. I also don't think my 325i had the rear knuck bushings mounted offset to the rear like that, but the M3 trailing arms are different so idk. Plus it's Moose so he must be right.
On the early 1994 they used rubber in one. I believe in 1995 they changed to use both ball joints (same part #). When I replaced mine on 1994 euro I used both ball joints.
About time we see some footage of the real poor man's supercar .. also your e36 m3 evo European spec rear end on a 3.0 is only a 188mm diff. unlike 3.2 210mm like on a e46 m3 . Hows the rear floor panels hopefully no cracks later models had this problem.
M3 3.0 Euro came with type 188 ("medium case"), and 5spd ZD gearbox.
M3 3.2 Euro (Evo) came with type 210 ("large case"), and 6spd Getrag gearbox.
According to Wikipedia, only 45 euro M3s 3.0 were sold in Canada.
The later model sold in Canada was US spec I believe.
@@DmitryShkeirov the us spec also had the 188mm diff and 5 spd. Which are fine. The 6 spd box isnt as good as the 5 spd.
Are those Hardrace control arm bushings (both top and bottom) actually bearings? Because I did an upgrade on my non-M E46 to replace the one that is rubber to a bearing (the other one is already a bearing). But I forgot which one was the rubber one, stock - top or bottom.
The bottom is a bearing (matching OE)
@@andrewd2911 Ahh, ok, but if you buy another pair of the top bearings, they will fit perfectly instead of the bottom rubber ones - kind of mimics E46 M3 rear subframe.

Makes sense why the m3 lap times were not impressive! Those bushings r terribly shot! Cant wait to see new lap times once ALL bushings r changed and maybe a set of Turner Motorsport swaybars put in! Why did u use a rubber bushing instead of a metal balljoint like the top of the knuckle? M3s came with Ball joints top and bottom. If ur car had rubber on bottom maybe it's cuz it was an early car.
