It's so nice to see 1A discussion these more complex issues. Most backyard mechanics are one broken bolt away from being over their heads. Well done, Sue!
You're a LIFESAVER, Sue! I FREAKED out yesterday when I broke the SAME rusty bolt on my 09 Prius trying to replace the control arms 😳 and your video SAVED me!
I ordered an induction heater and bought twisty extractors from Home Depot, but I didn't need the heater because all it took was torching the bolt for 5min and my twisty extractor socket twisted it right out! And boy did it make a cringy squeal! Then I found salvaged bolts for free without any rust at all (I live in Colorado). That steering column ended up being the biggest pain, but I was back on the road in 24 hours! 😅
Awesome steps shown. How about a PART 2 video showing how to deal with bolt that breaks off flush so you can use a TWISTY SOCKET on it. And/Or Perhaps a Tap and Die tutorial if needed after that.
I love watching this lady is the boom iv learned much from her .
I wanted to see you put the steering back together
My favorite presenter! Woo hoo! 😊
I had this issue last year and was going to bore out my snapped off bolt today... I shall wait until tomorrow. Thank you for great parts and videos
Really enjoyed this video, very well done.
i like the way your made things simple... thank you!
If you hadn't used an air gun on that bolt you probably wouldn't have had an issue. People rely to much on air tools in my opinion. If it doesn't break loose with a breaker bar. A liquid penetrant and a flame, or induction heater are you best friend.
She's so helpful. She's the best
Thank you for sharing this great video. Cheers.
Patience and perseverance 💪
Thanks for the great tips!
Excellent video.
Great job!
Grasias por conpartir
Thanks for the video. Wish you were in NY
Great explanation :)
Great and informative vedio.also on rusted up bolts one can saturate them with pb blaster and let them soak overnight.if one is really lucky sometimes you can find a opening in frame to spray oil onto back of bolt to soak the threads real good then if bolt does loosen slightly re apply oil periodically as you turn it back and forth to loosen rust as you turn it out.alsu a 6 point socket or boxend wrench is better than a 12 point type for this type of stuff..keep them hoopties running lol
Good job sue
Not too bad at all. You’re lucky there was still some of the bolt showing. When it breaks flush or under the surface… that’s when it gets really fun
Good 👍🏽 job
Apologies if someone already said but with ignition key removed most cars steering lock will be pretty level and be careful heating the floor of car carpet is not far away inside!! But that was a bad one to get out successfully 👍
That heat gun looks like it works great 👍
You have some skills
great vid
Thanks
I'm wanting to put a heavier away bar in back and front of my 2000 Camry LE. When I turn the Camry it rolls to much. So heavier sway bars are needed. Thanks much for your video.
You have an Excellent approach towards challenges and GuD equipment and experience .. I salute your teachers ..
The last Bolt you removed, I think the internet Nut was also de-spotted .. Kindly check that too .. at 8:20 ...
Regards
Was just investigating some bad rattling and vibration and noticed that my front passenger subframe bolt was completely gone! I'm hoping to use this video to help.
When installing a bolt, is there anything you can do to prevent this from happening in the future? Coat with oil? Anti-seize?
A diy'er would do it lying on the ground! A map-oxy torch is an easy option for diy'ers too, and it delivers much more heat than an ordinary propane torch.
Lady knows what she's doing
Where was this like a month ago on my 2008 yukon front sway bar. Snapped both bolts off in the frame on the passenger side
A thing of beauty...im getting an induction tool
You're the best
Googling induction heaters right now 😅
Is it safe to say it’s necessary to replace any bolt/nut heated to this extreme for removal? I’m assuming its integrity is toasted (no pun intended) once it’s been heated so much. Also, for critical bolts like suspension parts is it ok to use grade 8 replacements from the hardware store or do you always suggest getting OEM bolts? Thanks for such clear and to the point info - very helpful.
Video for Nissan Sentra 2010 2.0 bushing subframe
I like the 1A videos & I like her as a presenter.
My question is why, oh dear why did you go straight to airgun? Penetrating lubricant, heat and torque wrench slowly to get it out. Why airgun jerk & brake it?
I just broke 2 long AC compressor bolts in engine block - unfortunately, they are FLUSH with block....
Nice! I actually used the info here.
The only criticism is the yellow can on the torch should be acetylene, not butane or propane. Propane has a blue can. Butane I believe is also blue. Anyone want to correct me on the butane?
what transmission stand u using
Dear A1 Auto
Sorry to bother you, but I have a question.
How much torque do I need to tighten the front subframe bolts? ( Mercedes Benz E 220CDI BlueEFF W212 )
Thanks in advance
One question to 1A. Why would someone remove these subframe bolts in the first place? My 2009 Fusion has a rattle that’s getting really bad in the right rear. Subframe bolts would not be the culprit right? I’ve replaced numerous suspension parts already. Thanks so much
Need to undercoat with some Rust-Oleum
I’ve got a broken one on my 07 335XI. The head snapped right off and the subframe doesn’t drop. Any way to get it?
what are the part number for the bolts she is replacing in this video?
I just collected my 15 year old Audi which had new rear coil springs fitted. The bill came to £340 !! Which is like almost $500 mechanic told me why the bill was high, because rear subframe bolt broke ! After watching you it may take some extra time
+Frank W Thanks for the feedback!
Sue is beautiful & skillfull....
If you can't get out an aluminium drain plug to a gearbox, can you use an induction heater without too much risk of setting the gearbox oil on fire?
+@Benzknees We do not recommend using an induction heater.
what if the bolt is deep inside?
My problem is that one of the bolts that hold the bushing on the sway bar in place snapped. Is there a video for that? :\
+Foofoo We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I broke my lower mounting bolt inside my strut bushing! Help!!!!!!!
Difficult level for the diy'r: 9/10. 😢😢
Oh my kingdom for a hoist 😂.
Induction heater , i can see why my mechanic is charging me 1000 dollars to extract the frame bolt , the cradle come down, keep the cradle still because, the cradle will rock
MAP gas is not propane.
Thats an 08 and its bolts are worn that bad...Id hate to see what a 98 bolts would look like. I suspect awful!
That is not butane that is MAPP gas
Not doing it on your back in the driveway! 😂
Looks like a Toyota probably Corolla
My boss doesn't believe in induction heater... 😩 he wouldn't buy one
i like watching ..have zero interest in trying at home
safety glasses ma'am.
💯 wife material 😅
Thats not propane that is map gas clearly has no idea what she's doing or talking about
Do you get upset if your "wife" doesn't have dinner ready when you get home from work?
