You know what it is a pity that the British people of this country today do not have as much of a backbone and balls to do what the French are doing against the actions of the French Government, the British people of the county today just sit back and get rolled over and dictated to by the MPs in this country that do not represent the British people because if they had any real backbone to speak of they would be driving the likes of those that are invading our country back to the Frech Coastline

I have noticed the price of some products in a certain supermarket almost double over the past 12 months and one product in particular go up by 30% in the last week. The supermarkets have gone rogue but who can blame them when they are seeing what their energy firm counterparts are getting away with. There is most definitely unnecessary profiteering going on in many sectors and the greed of it is only making everything worse. We live in broken times

Company profits go up and down all the time. The most recent year tesco made a massive unbreakable 4.6% profit
So if you bought £50 of food from tesco they made a profit of £2.30 wow how evil how wrong they should make a zero profit and go bankrupt that would be a lot better.....

The point is price gouging and price fixing should be called out and punishment delivered out when it happens. The fluctuations of profit/loss made day to day isn't the issue, it's the way profits are being achieved that is the point of contention.
It's about a group of competitors who dominate the market share working with each other to keep prices inflated rather than actually compete for customers. It's a subversion of standard market practices and an abuse of their position in a vital industry everyone depends on. Probably the second largest contributors to inflation after the oil barons.
God help us with wannabe big brains like you opining on things like this like it's a good thing. No wonder the average man in the UK is fucked for the foreseeable future.

As evidence I can point to for example Walmart trying to sell Asda and only being offered poop prices for it. As evidence I can point to tesco share price being lower today than 5 years ago. How is that possible if they are price gouging like you say
Supermarkets make less than 6% net profit they certainly don't have monopoly margins or pricing power
The recent inflation is down to the government printing too much money more than anything else
You'd think a govt minister would.
A) Be briefed on their portfolio.
B) Be concerned if profiteering was occurring
C) Show a modicum of engagement with Parliament.
And Most importantly actually be competent.

Because more people rely on food banks, I would aver, than shop at Harrods, what would be her comment on the competitiveness of the situation?

I work in retail, and i can tell you firsthand that the price of pretty much everything has gone up massively. The only thing that hasn't gone up is our wages. Somethings have almost doubled in price.

Every time I see Coffey in front of a select committee like this, she always learns something new. Its like the chicken and egg shortage due to a lack of labour around Easter - she denied it was even a thing when all around her supermarkets were having to ration egg sales
