      Tories only believe in 1 thing: Tory ideology, which is to do whatever it takes to stay in power and then use that power to rinse the country of its wealth to benefit only those of the wealthiest classes.
      3 weeks ago, the news was awash with Tory scandals - as usual - then all of the sudden, the focus is on small boats. They know very well that if they are in trouble, they can always stoke up some tensions about British identity and dirty foreigners to distract everyone from their corruption.
      We're doomed with these people in charge.

      The worst thing about this guy is he probably is somewhat compassionate. Or at least not totally hateful. He's clearly an economic conservative who has to take part in the whole "culture war" thing that he likely doesn't care about to keep his MPs happy
      I'd be totally unsurprised if Sunak's genuine opinion was more refugees = more workers = more profit for people like him. But he has to go out and pretend to hate refugees to keep Braverman and her mates on side
      When he was chancellor he never seemed to care about this stuff at all

Your assuming people will have access to the internet and there situation allows them the time and luxury of making an online application and are sufficiently safe to be able to wait for a decision which in current circumstances maybe as much as a year in the future. Your ignoring the fact that the people making the ardious journey to claim asylum are fleeing persecution which in many cases is life threatening. As an example whilst politicians are denegrating Albanians for applying for asylum at the same time the home office is granting it to LGBTQ Albanians fleeing life threatening persecution in Albania. I would suggest before making assine suggestions you take trouble to research the subject you are commenting about.

    • @fang_xianfu
      @fang_xianfu Před rokem +5

      A website isn't all they would need to do but it's a start. They could definitely spend some of the millions they're spending on hotels, on an asylum processing centre in France (French authorities even suggested this) that would allow migrants to have a claim granted abroad and thus have no need for crossing the channel in a small boats. If their real aim was to stop the boats that would be simple, effective, and compared to hotels and camps, much cheaper.
      Obviously they don't want this because they want to be able to campaign on this issue so they have to string it out until the election. So they'll go slow on processing on purpose.

    As with Stop and Search, this policy is wholly racially motivated, and doesn’t do anything Rishi seems to purport it will. Firstly “criminal gangs” are adept, fluid and find ways round government policies all around the world, with very little disruption. Secondly, the evidence supporting such a policy is underwhelming and does not reflect the reasons people take that risk. Thirdly, when fleeing persecution and murder, people don’t have time to assess the policies in each country.
    I think the first thing, to borrow Sunak’s line, should be to get a mandate. Take his leadership to the public and his policies and see if he has enough support to push such disgraceful, divisive, ill-thought out policies, through parliament.
