    I've been looking at Grohe exposed thermostat valves. I've heard excellent things about them, and they look like they dramatically reduce the complexity of the assembly: the only thing in the wall is your hot and cold lines, and the only penetration is for the valve body's adapters to those two lines. The valve body has the thermostat adjustment and flow control built in.
    The price is also surprisingly normal, for something that could easily have been hit by the "ooh, european!" mind virus.

    Does HUD require securing a shower valve inside the wall using Pex or can it just flop around? I need a diagram of a HUD approved shower valve installation.

  • @PeteGaughenbaugh1

    Are 3 handle valves still legal? My understanding was that we need thermostatic anti-scald to be code compliant

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před 2 lety

      Um.. you can still buy them , I'll have to check the code. we have used them on remodels.

    • @DavidKlausa
      @DavidKlausa Před 3 měsíci

      They're not up to code in most places. But you don't need a thermostatic valve; just a pressure-balancing valve.

  • @peteruribe1069

    Which one of those valves allow you to regulate water flow flow moen single handle valves don't flow like the 3 handle or 2 handle valves that allow you to control flow???

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před rokem

      Valves don't work like that anymore. it's off or on. Unless you have thermostatic valve . it has two handles one for temperature and one for flow. but everything is so choked down (flow rate) that most people run them wide open and full flow also helps with tankless heaters.

    We are doing a shower renovation with two shower heads and two valves (on either side of the shower). We are wanting make sure we have the "loop" correct between the two. Do you have any diagrams or examples of that?

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před 3 lety

      You don't need a loop if its one shower head on each valve . that's really for body sprayers

    • @kelleyhalsdorf4575
      @kelleyhalsdorf4575 Před 3 lety

      @@PlumbingSolutionsLLC the two valves are on the same 1/2” line. So 3/4” in the concrete slab to 1/2” which comes up in the bathroom. We have the lines coming up then splitting off toward each valves. We have been reading and it seemed like they needed to loop back. Is that not the case?

    • @bryanderrick7796
      @bryanderrick7796 Před 3 lety

      @@kelleyhalsdorf4575 no . you don't need to loop it and one valve would do just fine. if you going to run both heads at the same time.

    Are those plastic cages/guards absolutely necessary?
    I’m replacing the mixing valve in my tiled shower and it was originally missing a plastic cage.
    The plastic cage I have for my new mixing valve won’t fit in the wall because it butts against a structural stud.
    Can I get away without a plastic cage on a tiled shower?

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC

      If I am not mistaken, is that the mudguard?
      And it will help determine how far out your prep board / thinset and tile can come out for the valve not too far and not buried in.

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před 3 lety

      Thermostatic valves are just a cartridge . The valve body and layout are the same

  • @thereefaholic
    @thereefaholic Před 3 lety +8

    Don’t know why the industry calls them “valves”. They are valve bodies. Without the cartridge they are nothing. Oddly enough the part that comes with the cartridge is called trim. For the novice shopping online you may find it hard to know what you need to buy to actually get a functional product.

    What happens if you install a delta mixer valve and just has that plastic cap cover. Will the hot water and cold water mix? The reasoning asked is I just had a mixer valve installed, and now I just get Luke warm water in the house. I had hot water with no issues before, but now it just warm.

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před 11 měsíci

      you have to put a cartridge in it .

      @@PlumbingSolutionsLLC that's what i thought but the plumber when i said water was mixing said it should not be mixing but I am thinking if there is no shut off valve or anything to prevent the hot and cold mixing then it will mix and did. The Plumber kept saying it my water heater because its 9 years old and full of sediment ect ect. I drained the water heater and flushed it and went to HD to get the cartridge boom problem solved. It was funny the guy in the plumbing dept who actually know s plumbing said how come the plumber is not trouble shooting the issue himself.

    Hey. I am ordering from Signature Hardware. I showed our plumber the page description which states "Available Single-Function Diverter Valve Cartridge restricts water flow to one outlet at a time. For installations only requiring 2 outlets, the 3rd outlet may be looped into one of the existing pipes." Would this be clear enough language for you? It shows various scenarios which one of the customer service reps called "capping." But my plumber seemed confused and asked if they provide a "three way cartridge, or three way valve." I guess *I* am confused because Signature Hardware said the instructions should be understandable to any plumber. Does this make sense to you? For instance, the shower kit for the Lentz shower system has the instructions that describe what I'm looking at. You probably won't read this in time, but I'm hoping you might. This is a shower I'm having built in my mother's bedroom; she's elderly/disabled/on hospice. Thank you!

      @@PlumbingSolutionsLLC For a cartridge designed to do six functions, how do you thread and cap so that it's only three? (We will only be using shower head and/or handheld. No tub). Or, is this a question that's different depending on the brand?

    What do you think is best as far as leaks are concerned, to have Pex A connect at the valve for the hot and cold lines or to connect copper at the valve then connect the Pex A under the floor in the crawl space?

    • @PlumbingSolutionsLLC
      @PlumbingSolutionsLLC  Před 2 lety +1

      The less connections you have the less likely you are to have a leak. I would use PEX ready valves and go straight to the valve.
