This manages to be both terrifying and hilarious at the same time. Oh and how many horror movies are referred to in a little bit more than one minute? I have The Exorcist, The Shining, Poltergeist, Psycho... I'm sure there's more.
Really want to know what music that is. Sound great for late 80s early 90s horror movies. The voice for the house is great, like Serak the Preparer. Early halloween episodes really were amazing. They weren't just silly gorefests. Of course they were funny though, but I think the later ones ended up missing something. The old ones could actually be pretty unsettling and frightening.
You can see where they were going with Marge and the bread knife, but then they switch it up with the creepy call to the kitchen and suddenly your not so sure. Old Simpsons was just stellar.
Ew. It hit the ground plus there's probably all sorts of broken plate pieces mixed in. I don't think they should make the animator eat that sandwich because of one glitch! Geez, you guys are tough!!
In hindsight the familial homicide is far less disturbing than the sad but apparent fact that Marge was making HERSELF a late night sandwich in a new house.
@@Howyaduing It’s very off brand for Marge and therefore I find it more disturbing than knife play. After all, it took a nervous breakdown and a week at Rancho Relaxo before Marge even considered a banana fudge sundae with whipped cream, and some chocolate chip cheesecake, and a bottle of tequila.
isn't that positive then? she's doing a comforting thing for herself in a time when she has a lot of anxiety about her and the family's circumstances in the new house. that sounds very healthy to me.
This segment creeped me out so bad as a kid! Now I just love how confused the house gets when Bart asks if it's his conscience.
It's not confused. It tries to fool Bart 🤷♀️
Bart should’ve known better. He doesn’t have one.
I love this one, their first Treehouse of Horror has no business being as good as it is.
The true horror here is Marge using a bread knife to spread her sandwich.
the true psychopath all along!
the knife was already used to cut bread, might as well use it to spread the mayonaise
you have no idea how good it feels
I love their apologies at the end. "Sorry Maggie."
Me 2.
So happy and carefree as if they weren't about to horribly kill each other 😂
Truly one of the more menacing TOH episodes. That music during the sequence is still creepy lol.
apparently the treehouse episode is what they submit every year if they make a submission for the music emmy
I like how Lisa has a butcher's knife in her nightstand drawer
me too
You don't?
It’s probably for the best that she went vegetarian.
Marge gets bread knife....for pre sliced bread and uses it to spread condiments on. A true psychopath
The all-powerful impact of a Mom’s “Stop it!”
I always loved the music in this segment
Homer's got that "Heeeeeeere's Johnny!" look about him. Hope he got his TV and beer.
Something something…

Hi David I’m Grandpa
Damn the music in this segment is great
Love that background tune
That music has haunted me for decades. My best guess is a variation on 'Come to Me' from Fright Night.
I need to start keeping a butcher knife in my bedside drawer like Lisa because they are all against me.
“Are you my conscience?”
You know it’s a good joke when Pixar pinches it (in Finding Nemo, specifically).
Some of the people who worked on early Simpsons episodes later joined Pixar, most notably David Silverman.
@@ToxicTurquoise454 Brad Bird is another big one.
That house was a real bastard
I read that in the stereotypical Irish descendant Boston accent.

Does anyone know where I can find the music that plays in this scene? I've been hunting it for years now
I was genuinely scared of this sequence when I was young. Really the only simosons episode to do that.
Hm, life with the simpsons, what choice do I have?
Why does Lisa have a massive butcher knife in her bedside table? 🤣
You mean you don't?
It's just a regular sized knife. It looks massive because she is small.
Didn't realise how much I missed that old school animation style. So much more life and expression than what we have now.
seriously, even season 1 has way more going for it than people remember.
Yes 👍

I believe it was composed for the episode.
The house sounded like Principal Skinner
Probably one the scarier ToH episodes I think, or maybe it's because I was just a child when I first saw this one lol
Yeah, they went all out with the first one. They basically remade The Raven and the only real joke is that Bart is the titular corvid
@@FreezerKing Also, Marge's/Lenore's hair requiring an additional portrait.

Who uses a bread knife to spread condiments?
why take out two knives?
Marge does
0:13 I love how the malevolent spirit of the house was caught off guard by Bart’s comment, but went with it.
Lisa keeping a butcher's knife in her bedroom drawer 🔪👍
Me too
when marge picks up the knife it is overlapping with the back of her head in an apparent animation error. sure hope someone got...etc etc
Got to eat that sandwich? Yeah, me too. What a waste that would be.
