I couldn't find this clip anywhere else so I decided to upload it myself.
One of my favorite moments with Grandpa Simpson. - Komedie
Seeing Mr. Burns be dishonorably discharged is one really impactfull. Great scene.
who you calling pinhead?
Autonomous Guy It was a bit difficult to find the scene online without just downloading the entire episode. More or less I was thanking him for the upload.
Idiot Savant Incarnate nope not for war trophies prior to 1966. Modern day war trophies such as fingers and teeth are now considered a crime much to my disapointment.
You can't even take lesser extreme things like bullet casings from enemy firearms as that too counts as theft.
@MrHoppers002 Ths German Officers sometimes had the P08 pistol on their person and the Allies took them as trophies
It's a shame we never see this side of Abe again. He's so much more likable being heroically. And his relationship with Bart has always been sweet.
For sure. It's too bad that we usually see him so grumpy.
The whole show lost its charm a long time ago. It only stays on because it's a "staple series" for the network. Matt Groening ran out of ideas a decade or more ago but thinks he's above any critique because he's famous. He's been flipping out big time if anyone even suggests he's not perfect and likes to pander to conservatives whenever he wants to feel victimized and needs a personal army. Though I lost all respect for him when he jumped on the "MP3s are evil
bandwagon- a typical rich guy who acts like he's going to the poor house because an insignificant number of people don't pay for music.
@@diosoth He hasn't worked on the show since like 99 except in small instances like the Movie. Idk wtf you're talking about. Not to say there aren't shady things about him, the stories about him in the Epstein case are disgusting.
diosoth well say that about the episode of Bart becoming an successful adult?
@@Newt0rz It's wild to me how have long condemned sex with children as being this horrid fringe thing, while the elite partake because they can. These people aren't even true pedophiles. There's no real affection or connection at all for them. Not even unresolved childhood stuff. It's just a power trip for them. Because its exotic.
Beware an old man in a profession where men die young.
@Dick Faggotson Burns got old because he was a coward, Abe got old because he was badass.
@Dick Faggotson I blame the writers.
@Dick Faggotson i think Abe is older than mr. Burns. There is the episode were shows Abe as a wrestler, with Burns as his fan.
@@TraustiGeir I thought there was an episode (all be it one of the newer ones, so take it with a grain of salt) where Abe clearly states that he and everyone in Springfeild's nursing center were cowards.
The real heroes and brave men fought and died in the war while cowards like him and everyone in the center hid on the boats and took the ride back to America.
Hell, I think in the same episode he even tries to convince Bart to be cowardly stating how it's the cowards that survive while the brave ones die in battle.
Yep, found it.

We have accepted his disposability...and so has he.
@Fizz Well, in this seasons it seemed more like he was afraid of disrespecting Mr. Burns, as he is, still, the most Millonaire Person in the entirety of Springfield, only Stopping to be scared about the thought of Burns punishing him when he was trying to cover the Sun so people deppended on his supply of Nuclear Energy

It gets me every time how Bart would rather die than put the Grandpa’s scuba mouthpiece LMAO
Ironically I think that's more gross now than when I was a kid
And yet, he put Grandpa’s false teeth in his mouth.

Yeah, it's too bad he's mellowed out now in the New crappy episodes.
I thought dunkey said it was strand type
I know right? That was fun.
It’s really cool to think that burns is the rival of 3 generations of simpsons
He really is the main villain of the show
He's kinda like dio

Between Sideshow Bob and Mr. Burns, I don't know who's best.
I love how Abraham went through all of this while in slippers.

Since when did mr burns have the strength to kick Bart
back then simpsons was still funny and didn't need cheap gaga
Exactly..
He just stopped hiding his power level. You can spot the moment Abe Simpson reaches SSJ2.
I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.
Mr burns was younger then
this was hands down the best moment with Grampa Simpson. shame we never see this side of him again. here we see Grampa as something of an action hero. we always see Grampa as an old fart but here we actually see Grampa as a war hero who still got some fight in his old age.
Carlos Montero He probably wasted the last of his war hero action on this scene...
Or the original writer for Grampa was dismissed later down the line and they gave the writing to a guy who had no idea of Granpa's character except he was a dodery old man and wrote as many old man jokes as he saw fit.
Complaints about Grampa Abuse aside, I actually had the pleasure of meeting a real life Sgt. Abraham Simpson. He was a Sgt with the Devonshire Regiment of the British Army in 1943. His career remained as a NCO (Non Commissioned Officer) up until 1978 where a hammy leg he received in a RTC (Road Traffic Collision) caused him to be invalided out of the service. He is a delightful man to speak to and I was almost saddened to leave his company. In a way, he became a surrogate grandfather to me and even presented me with his old Drill Instructor's Whistle as a gift.
"act your age simpson, you look foolish!" as he's pulling some james bond shit
@@michaeljames6817 Well Burns does fit the archetype of a classic Bond villain fairly well lol.
age didn't slow him a bit
Simpson's then: Take the paintings, just don't hurt the boy.
Simpson's now: Gimme the paintings, just hurt the boy.
Your not wrong.
This got a chuckle outta me
Even now they make cinematic episodes.
For example when lisa throught Homer was terrorist and wanted to blow up nuclear plant.
Well I agree they now focus on jokes more. But Simpsons it's still good show.
@@SketchG It's a fine show, but not really what made the show good in the first place now.
@Furyan Auror yea. What's wrong with it?

Amazing
I would've finished with, Stone Cold Steve Austin Quote after I dismissed Mr.Burns. And That's The Bottom Line Cause Abe Simpson Said So.
I love how they even did the sharp right face as he walks off
the way Abe jumps aboard the boat at 2:31 is the only time I considered him to be intimidating. The ease with which he drops down into his stance, ready to tackle Burns really gives the impression he is a proper soldier.
also the animation was decent
Once a soldier always a soldier.
My grandpas awesome. He volunteered at 18 to deploy in Vietnam, Outran his barracks being blown up with nothing but a flak jacket on, & was the top marine sniper in his unit. After Vietnam he continued to serve another 30 years as an army ranger, & was the father of my mom aunt & 3 uncles, and now at 68 is fighting diabetes & blindness. I am proud to be related to him.
Hmm the blows landing was in good effect
@@grumpyguy112 I thank your Grampa for his service. All warriors deserve respect.
And no one will ever believe Bart about how kick ass his grandpa was! Saving his life, shooting a speargun, water skiing in house slippers, the whole nine yards!
He is the oldest Chad I can think of
He was around 70 in the nineties so doableish
It's sweet that he immediately gives up the fortune for his grandson's safety. A lotta cartoon characters would hesitate

he told off the richest man in Springfield now that guts .
In Abe's eyes, Burns is nothing but the snide and smarmy 19 year old he served with back in the day. He probably hated him then and most certainly hates him now.
Well Abe was Burns' commanding officer so he had all the right to
Well, so did Skinner.
@@Her_Imperious_Condescension That was either Skinner's father or grandfather.
@Jarock316
Uh, I'm talking about 'Who Shot Mr Burns'.
This would be a perfect series finale episode off for Abe. Belittling the man who made Mona Simpson a wanted criminal in hiding and is his son's boss.
No series finale could ever be good.
@PrimePal Retires to a private island, we get a postcard from his blissful retirement in a villa instead of a home, and we can assume he passes peacefully offscreen sometime but we needn't know when. ...That woulda been good. Here in reality tho Homer's mom showed back up in the show and further hurt Abe's character to make her look better.
@JacksonJinn now that is how you end a character arc off! I would've loved that idea. Like Homer gets a phone call about his dad passing and they could've worked a story with Homer still being a bit bitter towards his dad and they could've made it how Homer eventually had an emotional goodbye at his father's grave after finding out more stories about Abe and how Abe actually loved his son which wouldve been a tremendous Story arc for Homer! Granted they could've still made Homer the loveable goof he is but it would've been a great ending to Abe and Homer's story.....why is it that me and you thought of a better endgame then the writers!?

I like this episode because it shows Abe as an actual human being with a past. Not just some shitty old man joke, an actual war hero with a deep history tied to the plot of the episode. The shows just not the same.
I really like this episode thanks for cutting out the end.
Not going to lie Abe earned those and the ending is a total bitch to snatch it away from him.
Oh sorry if i did give it away.
Yeah, well, they needed an explanation for why the Simpsons didn't change and become rich all of a sudden, plus, this makes a lot more sense that the government would want it returned to its rightful owners.
I hate it when the Simpsons do that.
They get something, only to have it taken away.
***** Well, they can't change the status quo. When they do, it's generally not a good change for the show (Skinner, Maude, etc.)
Karl Hiramanek I...am not following you. Basically, killing off characters and such?
This is my second favorite episode (Marge Vs. The Monorail being first). It's a really fun, ambitious episode with great cinematic direction. At its peak, the Simpsons could tackle so many subjects and genres, while still being hilarious to boot.
Yeah, mind, this was written and aired when it wasn't so easy to offend some minority or other. Nowadays, breath ever so slightly in the direction of a Islamic SJW and you'll find yourself facing a disciplinary board or a court under charges of "Racial Aggravated Assault" because you "tried to infect them with your biological diseases as you disapprove of them practicing their beliefs because they are Muslim and a "Social Justice Warrior"...
The deceitfulness of my fellow "humans" nowadays sickens me; discriminating in the hopes of not being accused of discrimination...
I have literally no idea what this comment has to do with anything I said.
Effectively, you mentioned that the simpsons, at it's peak, could tackle so many subjects and genres, which I said is now difficult to do because the networks fear all the social snowflakes who may be triggered by something Homer may say or a character who looks a little too much like a respected and/or current religious or political leader, i.e. Donald Trump or some right wing Muslim priest.
@@flashstudiosguy what the fuck are you on about?
@@flashstudiosguy My guy the people you say are offended by everything grew up on cartoons like Family Guy and Robot Chicken. Whatever this "SJW WOKIES ARE RUINING THE SIMPSONS" bs going around ain't got nothing to do with people under the age of 40. The only people I see getting offended by anything in todays world are the same ones who were offended that they had to share water fountains with colored folk.
Abe was a extremely good character back then. This episode showed a lot about how much he cared about Bart.
I get such goosebumps from this entire scene. Love how Bart shows up in time for Abe to deliver the dishonourable discharge and gets to see just how much Abe meant in his day.
Good gods, Abraham sure has a lot of endurance if he can chase down a sinking safe and jet-ski after a boat in one go. That's some James Bond level fitness.
Just a little hint that maybe his old war stories aren't as far-fetched as they sound...
Well he was a WW2 veteran
When family is in danger, you will generally find the strength to move heaven and mountain to save them from harm, even if it'll cost you your life. Also, we in the Armed Forces have a saying; Once a Soldier Boy, always a Soldier Boy.
Maybe he got all that endurance after chasing down the Kaiser after he stole the word twenty? Of course, he had to give up after dickety-six miles,
ExoticShadow So? A little boy of about 10 during the conclusion of the Great War (1918) could quite easily have been a sergeant of several years service at the American induction into WW2 (1942). A 34 year old sergeant would have been atypical, but still viable.
And as for Abe simply being too old for this to make sense, this episode was from the late 90s. So while him doing some of the activities in this prticular scene are highly unlikely, it put Abe in his 80s which is quite believable for his life timeline.
1:30 I love how you can read exactly what Abe is trying to tell Bart through their body language: “Forget about old man germs for a minute and take this if you wanna live!”
Bart: You're rich, Grandpa, and that's something Burns can never take from you.
IRS: He can't, but...
And they say Burns is the greediest villain in The Simpsons. He has nothing on the IRS.
This is one of the most visually stunning episodes of the best seasons. Scenes like Abe and Burns standing in the rain and Burns Kicking Bart into the water really stick with me. Along with the best portrayal of Abe Simpson throughout the entire show, plus some amazing jokes (Despite barely being in the episode Smithers gets some of the best lines). And that discharge scene is just too good.
really wish they had built out this side of grampa more instead of the "haha he's an old idiot" side.

"Act your age, Simpson, you look foolish!"
- possibly the line of dialogue that made me laugh the hardest when I first heard it, for whatever reason

This is no doubt my favorite simpsons scene. Seeing grandpa risk his life to save bart and then chase after Mr Burns is pretty courageous. Very cool.
Definitely.
3:04 when Abe's yelling Mr Burns flinches, in that moment he isn't an evil, powerful billionaire he's a slimy, powerless little private getting rightly chewed out by his commanding officer
That was my favorite grandpa Abe Simpson moment too that was a great episode
When Abe Simpson was 100% better than James Bond.
And as good as Sean Connery.
This was one of my favorite Simpsons episodes as a kid. Seeing Abe’s backstory, as well as some of the fight he still has left in him, was definitely fun to watch. And to do it all while still keeping it both sweet and extremely funny was masterful. The writers for this show in the nineties were brilliant.
3:05 love that scolding Ab gives Burns
Shouldn’t Mr. Burns have already been dishonourably discharged on the first murder attempt? Even so, he is without a doubt the greediest, most selfish villain in The Simpsons.
I'm surprised Smithers didn't say anything about him basically killing Bart. There's no way he knew Abe would be able to save him
Wait you're that dude who is always on HS vids wtf
Eh, he's lawful evil, as long as Burns is the initiator I feel he wouldn't be all that bothered by a kid's death. Maybe moreso now that he knows the Simpsons fam a little better.
@@cloverbun2574 In that case it's weird that Smithers DOES step in when it comes to Mr. Burns taking money from a school and old folks home.
Orca Whales That was just a plot device to set him up as a suspect in Burns' shooting in that episode, in other episodes he is totally loyal to Burns regardless of the consequences.
Smithers always tries to reduce Burns evilness actually, like when Monty wanted to beat Homer to death and Smithers tried to prevent it

Yes he did... But... It was a piranha territory and Smithers kinda lost something... I don't think he cares though
I loved this episode! My grandfather was an army ranger in WW2, and when I see this episode not only does it make me laugh but it makes me miss him even more then I already do.. thank you for putting this up
My great-grandpa was in ww2 as well.
He was stationed at pearl harbor when the Japanese attacked and slept through the whole thing.
He was also responsible for plowing the Pacific airfields later in the war.
Every time the Japanese destroyed the airfields he was part of the group of people that made the airfield useable again.
You could say that my great grandfather helped units like Abe's win the war, can't have airplanes take off if there's no runway right?
I think that's why I enjoyed this episode having a relative who actually went through the war Abe did just gives me a new level of respect for him.
The way @ 1:30 that grampa gives his life line to bart, Bart refusing it, as some kids would do, and then gramps forcing Bart to suck it up. The way the characters were drawn with so much personality and emphasis, the way it conveys a normal human reaction even in threatening situations is top notch animation and direction.
I love this episode. It shows that back in the day, Abe Simpson was a badass motherfucker.
Before he became everyone's punching bag...
Our Veterans, whatever service or nation, should have our utmost respect and gratitude!
Abe was pure badass in this episode.
Abe is an absolute beast in this episode! Love that pose at 2:32
Do you know how hard it is to swim and keep your slippers on at the same time? Abe's a beast.

This is grandpa’s greatest moment where he was always his best - because this really is a pity no one will see his high spirit. We’ll miss this always.
This is the definitive Abe Simpson episode for me.
I guess Burns couldn’t handle a taste of his own medicine
ITS OFFICIAL ABE IS MY FAVOURITE SIMPSONS CHARACTGER
Agreed. This really is one of Grandpa’s greatest moments.
I just realized that the entire plot of this episode was lifted from the "Adventures of Tintin" comics.
Nope. The closest the Tintin stories get to this is "The Secret of the Unicorn", but that didn't involve war plunder or a tontine, just Captain Haddock discovering his inheritance from an ancestor.
Anthrolithos Basic plot concept. I get that it’s a passing resemblance, but still. Old sailor and young man set out to find a lost treasure while evading the old sailor’s life-long enemy. Of course, I should have phrased this better, as well as explaining that I meant the Tintin Movie specifically.
@@Kilroy487 Ahh, I see. You meant a Tintin-esque adventure. I'm apologize, I had thought mistakenly that you had meant plagiarism. :)
You are correct in that it seems to have the same cartoon-thriller feel, although being half-French and Tintin being part of my childhood, I can say that it is distinctly lacking in genuine French wit.
But you have me at a disadvantage, as I never saw the movie. How was it compared to the books? Faithful? Homaging? Modernized? Disgraceful? ;)

I live in the UK but if I had to serve alongside a Yank Unit, I'd want it to be the Hellfishes with Sergeant Abraham Simpson in charge!
I love the idea of the Hellfish only having one standard, and that's "Don't frag the CO". Sounds like a regular Bad Company lot.
I gotta admit... it really seemed to effect Burns hearing Abe tell him he's being dishonorable discharged and kicked out of the unit. Never really thought he cared about anything except money.
That’s one badass grampa
I miss when Abe Simpson was a total badass, yes he is an old man but let's not forget he was in the Army.
And he was the leader of a military comando by the way

This is my favourite Simpsons episode... It really shows what every character can do, also gives grandpa the attention he deserves
>"...and Burns can _NEVER_ take that away from you!"
>Burns _immediately_ takes that away from him.
It was the State Department actually
Really goes to show how much of a coward Burns is deep down. He talks a big talk when he's winning, then the moment Grandpa Simpson gets the better of him and starts dressing him down he just rolls over, takes it, and then slithers away without a word of protest.
Mr burns is the only man who's bones can break from a slight breeze of the wind and also have the ability to kick a boy into a safe with enough force to push the safe in the water lol
Lucrious
I think this episode is my favourite out of all the simpsons episodes, it's funny, ridiculous and full of really good action that you wouldn't expect from a Simpsons episode in the first place.
This was truly the golden age of the Simpsons. Thank you for your service Sargeant Abe Simpson.
Whenever Abe channels that fighting soldier spirit he had in WW2, he becomes a force to be reckoned with
2:26 It's pretty impressive that Grandpa was able to make forward progress without either hand being on the rope.
This scene reminds me of my grandfather who served in the Army from 1970-74. He is a former mechanic on the Big Bummer, and he was in charge of the people who served with him.
I never knew burns was this wicked
I always wished there were more Grandpa and Bart moments, I always loved how they had a sweet bond, it also helped that Bart was the only character that Grandpa would drive around in his WWII jeep in the game Simpsons hit and run.
Impressive that Mr Burns had the strenght to kick bart and throw the box considering he's a weakling most of the time
They should seriously make a few episodes of the Chronicles of WW2 Abe Simpson and His Platoon!
Death At A Rave! He was a squad leader, but still
You’re rich! And burns can never take that away from you!

I love this episode so much the relationship between Abe and Bart is the best. If Bart can't count on his parents to be there for him he can count on his grandpa.
Looking to the lore and considering what Burnsey has done to this family, I belive that killing him at that moment would've been a rightful punishment.
As much as I don't mind Simpsons now a days, I'll admit that there was something about the older, classic episodes that seemed to not only have better stories and moments to experience, it also felt like that characters, outside of the main characters, had their moments to shine.
Glad you don't mind the newer seasons, they aren't as bad as people say it is.

This was by far the most heroic and the most righteously enraged Abraham Simpson ever was. It's honestly always cool to me when a show reveals that an elderly character was not only once an extremely heroic soldier, but can still very much be that soldier when the situation becomes dire.

This whole episode is awesome. It's called Abe Simpson and his grumbling grandson in the curse of the flying he'll fish, seventh season.
I simply love this episode, saw it for the very first time when I was a kid and I just loved how the characters were developed,!!
It's a very underrated episode IMO. Superb character development in this one.
Burns kicked a small child into a safe and then kicked him overboard to let him drown at sea. That's attempted murder of a small child. There is nothing redeemable or likeable about this character.
This about to be 7 years old and I still love it. Grandpa Simpson Is a badass
Flanders and Abraham are the best people in the simpsons
Grandpa Simpson: "Aw the fortune doesn't matter boy"
Also Grandpa Simpson: "Now let's get that fortune!"
The cool thing is that that's not just a cheap joke. Listen to Abe's voice and look at his and Bart's faces. They're both bright-eyed and smiling. Abe doesn't sound angry at all, either. In fact, he sounds chipper and excited. He's not trying to disregard Bart's safety for monetary gain - he's just legit happy to be both spending time with his grandson and reliving some of his glory days with the boy. This episode was probably the most fun Abe had had in decades, and it may have been the closest he and any of the main 5 Simpsons ever were.
To think that Mr. Burns of all people came the closest in killing Bart, even more than Sideshow bob.
When one thinks about it, Mr. Burns at his age range is practically used to killing if it meant taking advantage of his situation.
One of the best episodes of The Simpsons ever
