  • Today is Part 2 of the ATS 25 Max Decoder videos.
    The first video was an introduction into the radio and it was a discussion of the specifications and upgrades over previous versions. At that point I had just ordered the radio (with my own funds) and was awaiting it's arrival.
    Well it has arrived and time for an unboxing video. In addition we will fire up the radio to get a better first impression.
    So join us for a closer look at an interesting new receiver.

      27mhz is part of the shortwave spectrum. Many are unaware. Shortwave ends at 30mhz according to many. But listening on any band is fun. Thanks for watching 73

    Do they make a good long wire / end feed wire antenna with the bnc connector?

    • @hamradioonthego
      @hamradioonthego  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I haven’t seen one but you make your own if you can solder or have a crimp on tool or take a long wire w/PL-259 and add a bnc adaptor . Would improve reception leap fold. Hope that helps. 73

    I have the ATS-20+ and SW reception including 20m with the whip antenna is great. This radio is very sensitive.
    I read somewhere that the ATS-25 max backwards tuning problem can be fixed by swapping some wires. Firmware updates are not real easy to do.

    • @hamradioonthego
      @hamradioonthego  Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for the feedback, yes I’ve also heard about the firmware update for the tuning and it’s a bit complicated. I’ve gotten used to it but I might still have to do the update as mine cannot decode FT8 standalone which is a nice feature. Overall a great little receiver. Thanks again for watching . 73

    I wonder how a small custom LNA would go for the telescopic antenna. I have one of these radio's on the way and will try waking it up with something very low noise with moderate gain.
    Cheers.

    • @hamradioonthego
      @hamradioonthego  Před 3 měsíci

      Not familiar with an LNA antenna . Many will just use long wire antennas equipped with the bnc plug directly into the back of the ATS. I will try that on mine. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.

    • @hamradioonthego
      @hamradioonthego  Před 5 měsíci

    What makes this radio the Max Decoder?

    • @hamradioonthego
      @hamradioonthego  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It’s ability to decode certain digital modes like FT8 etc as a stand alone. I’m learning more about these features as I mess around with the radio .

      Seems like either software or hardware issue. Easiest fix would be to upgrade the firmware or at least reinstall the original if it’s a software issue. Hardware would be best to try and refund if you can. . If your tech inclined you can open it up to see if anything is goingon but only if warranty/refund period has expired . Hope that helps a bit.

      @@Trunkmonkey777 I have not done that firmware yet. A good resource is N9EWO -Dave’s Radio Receiver Page on qsl.net. Issue is I think he passed away so it might be the latest but worth a look. Latest version from Russia I’ve seen is Version 4.17 Air Beta. You get air band but loose some functionality like battery indicator . To flash it to an arduino is not the easiest and it has issues but you have nothing to loose since your already having issues. Hope that helps.
