Ella cleaned the fire place so her step sisters added cinder to her name to mock her due to the cinders still burning in the fireplace. Cinderella.
Ash is also in a fireplace, Lyn is also a name, thus Ashlyn. Lyn possibly also a reference to lint?
Ella means Fairy Maiden so that's obvious while Lyn means pretty/from the flax(flower) hill. That's probably going too deep though XP.

I’m gonna explain Cerise’s (Little Red’s daughter) situation. Because her mom is the hero and her father is the wolf from their tale it’s seen as rebellious that they fell in love. Also I’m gonna say this because you’ll only know some of this info from the books. BUT! In their version of the story, they never really did anything they were supposed to in the tale. Everything was staged so that both the Wolves and the Hoods (it’s two different clans) would assume they did their job right. After all-it’s blasphemy to not complete your role in your story

So, a few lore things to note:
Ashlynn Ella and Hunter’s relationship has to be kept secret because of societal norms. Ashlynn, being a royal, is expected to marry a prince someday. Meanwhile, Hunter is considered both a commoner and a rebel (for not wanting to hunt animals like he’s supposed to). Also, I’d like to point out that as the next generational huntsman, he actually plays the role in both the Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood stories.
Cedar was not born traditionally, she was carved out of wood like Pinocchio originally was and granted life by the Blue Haired Fairy - no awkward or painful births involved. However, the whole lying, nose-growing thing won’t happen for her until later in life, so for now she has been cursed by the fairy to only tell the truth.
Cerise has to hide her ears because her very existence is forbidden. Her parents’ romance goes against the very idea of destiny, and Cerise having the physical trait of wolf ears is clear proof of that. No one else can learn that she’s part wolf or else they’d find out about her family’s secret. And to make matters worse, she’s actually destined to face off against her older sister as the big bad wolf in her story.
And lastly, Kitty is a trouble-maker, but not necessarily out of bad intentions. She’s just super passionate about following her destiny as the next Cheshire Cat (a character who is very mischievous in general)

For a bit of lore explanation: the school isn’t split into heroes and villains, it’s split into royals and rebels. So the royals are all the heroes of their stories yes, but the rebels aren’t all the villains. Like Hunter is the son of the huntsman in Little Red Riding Hood (a good guy), but he isn’t royalty so he’s a rebel. Same with Red Riding Hood’s daughter, and Pinocchio’s daughter etc. Hope that helps!

You know actually the name Cinderella is just the anglicised name for the character. The German brothers Grimm (also the name of the headmaster and his brother) wrote the story and the original name was Aschenputtel (Asche = Cinder). When you watched EAH in german they just used Aschenputtel as name because its more to the Original story of the Brothers Grimm.

To explain the Royal vs Rebel distinction, since nobody seems to be getting it right:
Royals- want to stay "loyal" to their story and follow their destiny
Rebels- don't want to follow their destiny
This is how you get people like Raven (and later some other people, but I won't spoil) who are technically royalty, but are Rebels, and people like Faybelle (daughter of the thorn fairy from the sleeping beauty) who are villains of their story but considered Royals because they want to follow their story

One of the major themes of the show is that the system not only is broken but has been broken for a long time. Cerise Hood, a.k.a. Little Red 2.0, is proof of this, being the daughter of Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf, obviously a romance that goes against their story. Ashlynn and Hunter are another example, though a milder one, of being of different politic affiliations (Ashlynn part of the Royals who want their destinies and Hunter part of the Rebels who don't). But there are a ton more to come: people circumventing their destinites, manipulating them, fighting them, changing them. Raven is just the latest and loudest in a long time of dissenters.

the reason raven is “selfish” in apple’s eyes is because they have all been told that if raven didn’t sign the book, her story would go poof, implying that all the snow white characters would cease to exist. and then, she’s also inspiring others to choose their own desitinies, which apple sees as endangering all the stories and students. we know that they didn’t go poof when she didn’t sign but headmaster grimm keeps telling apple that it will eventually happen so in apples eyes raven is risking lives and encouraging others to do the same so that she can be happy. OF COURSE raven is totally right to want a better life and i’d personally side with the rebels too because like you said it’s practically slavery but there’s a bit more nuance to the royals side then you give it credit for, it’s not that they just want their happily ever afters at the expense of others’ happiness it’s that they’ve been told that if they don’t follow the system, everyone will cease to exist. again, i’d be team raven too but apple isn’t just a villain, she has been manipulated and genuinely cares for the safety of her classmates, including raven :)

In fact, Red Riding Hood and Big Bad Wolf are the very first Rebels. Their relationship comes from when they were students at Ever After... and they are just adorable with one another.

Since Matthew’s seen the episode about Cerise Hood now, here’s a bit of context. In the book it is explained that over the generations, the setting of the red riding hood story slowly turned into a village full of paranoid people, and a wood nearby full of angry werewolves. Raven talks to little red riding hood and she explains that on “that day” (the day where she played the story out) she fell in love with the awkward teenage werewolf that was trying to fulfill his destiny but didn’t want to hurt her. In the version of Red Roding Hood that EAH is based off of, the wolf doesn’t eat the grandma, just locks her in a closet, and the hunter just scared the wolf off. After Cerise’s parents “lived the story” they started to secretly date, because the “Hoods” (humans) in their town hate the “Wolfs” (werewolves).

No, the half wolf (or more like werewolf) is a problem.
In the books, the Red Ridding Hood village is kind of at war with the wolves. When it is revealed that she is part wolf, the two clans almost start a war (also, drown Raven Queen for being a witch who happens to be there). The grandma is kind of the head of the human clan and so to stop the war they settle on a race: if Cerise manages to win agains EVERYONE else, she will not be banished from her home (and Raven won't be drowned).
But yeah, the whole "villain and protagonist falling in love" is also a problem in their society.

We have more Ever After High which means a long explanation to answer your questions.
Starting with Ashlyn and Hunter’s relationship. They both started developing feelings for each other as they both are nature lovers who spend a lot of time in the woods. The main problem with their relationship is much like predetermined destiny, a lot of the Royals have predetermined prince/princess. Ashlynn is expected to end up with some royal prince at the end of her fairytale. And Hunter is destined to protect his story’s heroine but love is not part of his tale. The society they’re a part of would ostracize them.
And a little fun fact about Hunter. His main reason for being a rebel is his love for nature. While he enjoys archery, and saving damsels, he is against hunting animals. He wishes to avoid that part of his destiny if possible. The squirrel we see him chasing, Pesky, is an animal friend helping him train on the hunting aspect.
Cedar Wood is a funny little case. Her father tried using magic to have her be on the right path, and prevent her from getting into trouble but he messed up the spell and cursed her instead to be incapable of lying. The actual logistics aren’t very well explained but anytime someone asks her a question she has to tell the truth. Even if she tries to hold back her thoughts it all slips out.
Now to explain Cerise Hood, it’s also on that predetermined love idea. The Big Bad Wolf was never meant to find love. After getting beaten by Little Red and the huntsman he just has to live life in exile of sorts. Little Red and the Wolf fell in love during their time at EAH, being teens who wanted to be happy. But they signed their destinies and were meant to be each other’s fairytale enemy. It’s explained in the books they don’t have to follow the story detail by detail, but instead by beats. As long as they follow the major story points, and achieve the similar end result it’s fine. Little Red came up with a way to “defeat” the Wolf in her story, but it was essentially a staged defeat where he could run off and still be ok. After they completed their story, they sought each other in secret and made a family. Little Red and the Wolf were essentially the first ever rebels, one generation prior to Raven’s rebellion.
The thing with Kitty Cheshire is she’s a Cheshire. Her entire thing is wanting chaos. She’s not being mean cause she wants to be evil. It’s simply cause she likes seeing chaos. And with the Cerise thing, it’s not so much trying to expose her, since she didn’t immediately tell the whole school, but more like she wants Cerise to not hide her chaotic backstory. Wonderland characters are the hardest to place into the rebel/Royal categories due to the nature of them not being any semblance of black or white. Very excited to see you reach to more!!

And let's not forget his romance with Ashlynn who is meant to be the next Cinderella and marry a prince, not a huntsman. Again... Cerise and Kitty Cheshire are my favorites. Cerise has such a pretty aesthetic and I can relate to her attitude
Kitty is really interesting and I really relate to her as well. She’s expanded on as a character a lot more and they reveal her backstory and why she acts the way she does. I personally relate to her situation a lot and it makes her a top tier character for me

Raven’s situation reminds me of Shrek’s from the first and second film. He’d told he Ogres don’t get happy endings. Yet, he defies fate and the literal Fairy Godmother, because he and Fiona’s love is true. I feel like the two of them would bond over that, he’d give Raven advice on how he made his own story instead of accepting what he’d been told.

From what I understand, Ashlyn is called Ashlyn, because Cinderellas real name is just “Ella” but because she was treated as a maid she had to tend to fires, and clean the cinders. This caused her stepsister to nickname her as “Cinderella”, so for her daughter she is called “ASH - Lyn” as a way to reference her mother

  • @tanner.emeralds
    @tanner.emeralds Před 9 měsíci +1

So in the original story of Cinderella, her real name was just Ella but her stepsister’s nicked named her Cinder-Ella because of the Cinder on her face from the fireplace. AshlynEllas name also stems from the same thing because of the Ash from the fireplace

The reasoning for the name Ashlyn is due to the word cinder in Cinderella with cinder and ash both being words to describe the remnants of fire wood after being burnt. In fact, Cinderella’s name itself was actually a nick-name given by her step mother and sisters since she was always cleaning and covered in… well, cinder and ash
    Cinder-Ella
    Ash-Lyn
Not to hard to put two and two together

Omgosh. Thanks for posting these. I recently watched the whole series in a few days because of ur vids they’re amazing. And btw with Apple, I think she can be selfish but she isn’t that bad. And from what I heard happens in the books, during her childhood and how her mother is later on in the series. I grew to like her a lot more, and understand her. Plus she is also just a child, cause she’s in high school. So I understand some of the mistakes she made. But in her heart she’s definitely a kind and caring person. (As Snow White is supposed to be) P.s. I tried to draw apple white but I ended up completely ruining her face. 😂
5:43 I think Pesky is Hunters pet, which explains why they’d be fighting. Not a hundred percent sure. Someone can fact check in the comments.

11:08 i wonder if cedar could've asked one of her friends to tell a "tall tale" and then she could repeat what they said by saying "so yesterday, raven told me how she...." and repeat the "lie" because shes not lying; thats what raven said.
This probably isnt possible but its just an idea.

Ashlynn's full name is Ashlynn Ella.
Ella, because Cinderella's real name is Ella.
Ashlynn, because it's a bit of a pun. Cinder is a synonym for ash, so *Ash* lynn.

I think that the reason Cerise is so secretive about her parentage is less that she’s half wolf, (that’s probably the least weird thing in that school), and more that an evil villain and a hero got together and had kids. That seems like it would be extremely taboo in this world.

27:00 I think you missed the point. xD The narrators said, it was a good thing, that Raven made people question their destiny. It's a good thing the school will never be the same again.
As others already mentioned, Ashlynn is called like this, because Cinder = Ash.

Ashlyn is named that way because of the “ash part”, similar to how Cinderella was named that by her step siblings as she slept by the cinders in the fireplace. Ashes - Cinder, and then they both have Ella afterwards (for some reason that’s Ashlyn’s surname but Cinderella first name).

4:34 because Cinderella’s German name was Aschenputtle, meaning little ash girl (Ashlynn) which is where cinder came from I believe. Anyone more knowledgeable feel free to correct me

Kitty Cheshire is actually just doing what she is meant to do. She is the daughter of the Cheshire Cat, so it is her fate to cause mischieve and stir up trouble to others. That's why she tried to expose Cerise and provoked the fight between Rebels and Royals, as that would result in great chaos for her entertainment. But don't let her antagonic side to deceive you because she does have a nicer side.

  • @garrettviewegh9028
    @garrettviewegh9028 Před 11 měsíci +2

The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland is notoriously mischievous. It fits the status qoe that Kitty would also be mischievous. But she does it in a more mean way than a chaotic, joking way. Believe it or not, her and other Wonderlandians get more development later on.

Fun fact. The wolf from little red riding hood isn’t the only wolf to be cut open and filled with rocks! I have a brothers grim complete works book. I would have loved to see the girl with no hands failing to carry books in the background while Apple white complains about how this mirror is two atoms different than the other one.

21:14 Is basically with the very characters they are the children of.....Kitty is the daughter of the Chesire Cat from wonderland and for all the characters that are the children of someone from wonderland...the show did the best job to make them "MAD" but mainly all of them are a GREY area they don't have a side cause.
By the books, all of them want to follow their destiny but they are almost always with the Rebels, except for Lizzie Hearts, daughter of Queen of hearts; she´s a Royal thru and thru

  • @Impulse001
    @Impulse001 Před 11 měsíci +1

3:15 Remember that not all villains are Rebels, and not all Rebels are villains. A Rebel is simply someone that doesn't want to follow their "destiny".
