The Swan Princess doesn't get a happily ever after. That's why Dutchess (the dancing princess, that tried to ruin every princesses life to get her place in the royal ranks) does her thing. Her destiny is to fall in love and literally die, because her prince breaks her heart by falling in love with another woman. So she wants an ending, where she at least gets to stay alive. You can't really blame her for what she's trying to do, but because of the methods she is using, a lot of other students resent her. She's basically ready to kill another person indirectly, rather then die herself.

    • @alicebaskervill7590

Apple White is actually a very nice and kind person, when it comes to the problems and people she's used to.
She grew up having A LOT of privilege, and is consideredThe Future Queen of the fairytlale land, having more power than anyone else. So she is VERY privileged. Her story is based on her slowly learning just what it is to have a bad ending and see your friends suffer, while you have all the power and happiness you want, and realising just how wrong she was. So the story slowly goes from having both sides be right and wrong, to taking Ravens's side and have her be right, so in the end they all get to shoose their destiny and loved ones, and Raven and Apple truly become friends and live in their new normal.
The Headmaster also chooses their side over time and stops being a bad guy.

Okay, let me clarify Duchess' situation: she IS a Royal. She DOES believe everyone should follow their respective destinies. And she WILL follow her destiny when time comes. However... She doesn't like her destiny, as she is the daughter of Odette, the Swan Princess and her happily ever after isn't exactly... happy. Because of that, she is resentful of those who have happy endings but don't commit themselves to the story. That's why she gets so mad that Ashlyn (who has a great ending to her story) is not following her story. Not just that, but Duchess also tries to take another's happily ever after by force, that's why she is trying to force Ashlyn to abdicate her destiny in her favor.

What makes Cupid more confusing is that she's originally from Monster High, where the concept of following your parents' story would be horrific considering.. well, Frankenstein, Dracula, and Medusa are good examples as to why. Plus, the encouragement to be yourself in all your weird glory over there. So it was surprising to a lot of fans (at least, in the part of the community I participated) that Cupid wasn't more of a Rebel. Monster High is a Parallel Universe to Ever After High. They no longer needed her help so she transferred to Ever After High where they did need her help. Monster High being the sons and daughters of classic horror monsters and mythos is about accepting not only your self but others as well while Ever After High contains nursery rhymes and fairy tales. This creates and promotes the narrative that you don’t have to be who you’re parents or authoritative figures want you to be. That you can be who you are without the peer pressure of being something you’re not. Cupid doesn’t have a story book because she isn’t a fairy tale character. So Yea…sorry this was so long😭😭😭

I'll leave this here, since it's not explored in the series and might help prevent questions:
The Charmings are a big clan who basically produce princes for all the different fairytales. They actually don't know which story they will go into (since there are so many "prince charmings" in stories that appear for like 2 minutes at the end), it's all decided later. Usually it's presumed that the best Charming will get the higher-ranked story, like Daring is the oldest and is presumed to become the prince in Snow White fairytale, but nobody knows that for sure yet. Same with Dexter, he can get assigned to any story that needs a prince

A whole family lineage made to mass produce princes to keep this system running?? That's.... something alright... and we don't even know how long this system has been in place, if there's an entire clan of families supplying fairy tales every generation with their "prince charmings,"(and occasionally Princess Charmings I guess like with Darling since gender swaps with fairy tales like Cedar and such) it's probably been happening for a LONNGG time. We don't even KNOW how old the brothers Grimm really are. They're literally just dictator/cult leaders, or at least the one in charge is, it's insanity 😭

Dont worry, Daring doesnt stay happy with his story for long. The thing is, the Charmings don't actually know which stories they're born for. They only figure that out on legacy day. They just know that they will have to fill a Prince Charming role in some fairytale eventually, but they dont actually know who their princess will be. Daring thinks hes going to end up with Apple, but like... Also, theres a theory that Dexter is "The Good King" from Apple's story, and that he will be the one to marry Raven "The Evil Queen". But of course this also has the dynamic of them being Apple's parents which wouldnt work in their generation of the story, but it is what it is. Oh one more thing, keep in mind that Daring and Dexter have a sister, Darling Charming. And that some storybook characters have more kids than necessary to continue their story, so theres a decent amount of EAH students who have no idea which story theyre meant for. Like Poppy O'Hair, for example. In this universe, Rapunzel had two twin daughters, and the older twin, Holly, is the one that is supposed to go on to become the next Rapunzel.

So I found this out a while ago but not every person in ever after has a story they are confined to. That’s why several boys simp over Apple without breaking their destinies because they don’t have one yet. If you always had to follow your parents destiny the family tree would get messy because the Princess’s child is also the prince’s child. So there are families in ever after that are just like place holder love interests. The Charming’s are one of these families. So I doesn’t matter who Daring, Dexter, or Darling end up with because they can play the love interest in any story. Everyone just assumes Daring will end up with Apple because he’s the most popular but no one actually knows.

Apple was never exactly selfish. I mean, she is loved by the entire school and not just because she is the daughter of Snow White. She is actually kind and selfless. However, her love for tradition and her eagerness to become a Queen to better help her future kingdom makes her become unaware how selfish she is being by wanting to force Raven to be something she is not so she can make her destiny a reality. Just because someone is being selfish about something doesn't mean that someone is a selfish person as a whole.
In fact, she actually believes that breaking tradition can put in danger the fairytale world. So, in her perspective, by trying to make Raven to follow her destiny, she is not just making her story a reality, but she is also protecting the ones that are involved in it from disappearing, Raven included.
Also, the assumption that Daring is Apple's prince charming comes from the fact they are the most popular students (from each gender) in all EAH. It's like assuming that the King and Queem of prom will get together in the future.

Selfish describes her perfectly. She wants everything to go right for her AND be about her! She steals attention all the time even though often not with ill intent, it's still in an inconsiderate way. She wants things to go right for everyone ONLY WHEN that means everything is perfect for her first. More Ever After High means more lore explanations. Particularly on our two new characters introduced.
Sparrow Hood, son of Robin Hood, is either makes you laugh or you find annoying. He’s part of the rebels side, mostly cause he desires to be a rockstar on concert posters instead of a criminal on wanted posters. A very simple reason but sometimes that’s all you need.
On the flip side we have Duchess Swan, daughter of the Swan Princess. Duchess is a unique kind of royal. She’s one of the few, if only, Royal we know that isn’t destined to have a Happily ever after. Depending on which version of Swan Lake she follows, she either spends the rest of her life as a swan or ends up dead. As such she’s a very bitter person, wishing her story could end in happiness rather than tragedy.
Duchess’ concept of a royal ranking implies that each fairytale is ranked, and who takes over the story is determined by where they fall on that ranking. It’s never explicitly stated in the show but Duchess was told by someone, probably Headmaster Grimm, that she could take over another Royals destiny if she could catch them not being true to their story. As such we see her often searching to knock down any royal who strays from their pre-determined stories. Whether this is true or not is hard to tell. Very possible she was lied to as a way to keep everyone in check.
Whichever way you spin it Duchess will always be interesting. She does everything she can to be the perfect royal, but her destiny is to be met with a bad end. And she’s really our first look into the reality that not all Royals are guaranteed to have a peaceful and happy life after their stories. Some get dealt with bad endings or curses they have to overcome before getting to have a happy life, if they receive it. I’m excited to see you continue down this storyline as you get to explore how gray the story can truly get.

Everyone around her keeps saying that princesses are destined to be beloved & happy, but here she is a princess no one likes, destined to be miserable, even tho she does everything "right". Even her name is contradictory, since the title of "duchess" is a level below "princess" in nobility. She's genuinely a tragic character & it bums me out that the show really only uses her as a punching bag.

Oh yeah, it's actually expanded upon in the books! Headmaster Grimm put her in some villain classes because he wanted her to possibly take Raven's destiny as the evil queen, by semi-forcing her to learn evil because she's so protective of her grades, she wouldn't fail a class just because she disagrees. He knows she would thrive and try to get the highest score because her grades are at stake.

What I found interesting in the books is, that in their fairytale stories, even if the character is supposed to die, they wont. It is explained by a wicked witch in Hansel and Gretel story. Raven meets her and asks her how is it possible that she is alive and not burned to death and she tells her that for her and characters like her there is an exception. That she was allowed to slip out of the back oven door. Its because she has to produce an heir, another witch for the next hansel and gretel and she would not be able to do that if she is dead. And so characters like her just have to go through their story and than they live quite normal lives.

one thing to realize about ever after high is that being a royal does not guarantee you a happily ever after, and not every rebel is a villain. the biggest distinction is that royals are quite literally royalty, and rebels are just the common folk who still have their own stories. the rebel category also happen to be where the villains are placed because most fairytales do not have villainous royalty.
it’s a little different with a few characters, for example raven queen and duchess swan (the dancer who wanted to steal ashlynn ella’s story). raven is the daughter of a queen, making her technically a princess, but because her destiny is to be an evil queen, she is a rebel. duchess swan is the daughter of odette who was the white swan and protagonist of the swan lake story. the story ends in tragedy when the black swan odile tricks odette’s lover into professing his love for her instead of odette, and odette dies. that’s why duchess swan wants to steal a happily ever after for herself, since she is a royal (idk why, i don’t remember if odette is royalty in the original story of swan lake but that’s just where duchess was put for eah) but doesn’t have a happily ever after like the rest of the royals.
TL;DR royals are literal royalty, being a royal doesn’t guarantee you a happily ever after. rebels are everyone else with a story, and being royalty can be overridden by your story requirements if your story needs to you being evil
    hope that helps!
edit: i also wanted to add something to help clear up confusion about why ashlynn and briar aren’t rebels now that they question their destinies. rebels aren’t defined by wanting to go against their predestined story, in fact there are plenty of rebels who like their stories (madeleine hatter, kitty cheshire, sparrow hood, and cupid to name a few). the main conflict stems from the fact that royals are treated better than rebels overall, and rebels have more of a reason to want to choose their own destiny since on average they have fewer happily ever afters than royals do.

Well duchess is a royal because she believes everyone should follow their destiny, her destiny ends with her being stuck as a swan so she resents people with happy ending who dont abide by said rules of their destiny like Ashlynn when saying "I'll take your place" there is a loophole where if you sign someone elses page in the storybook of legends you can technically "steal" their destiny this will be explored later in the series.
Ashlynn has a partner she is "destined" to be with due to her story which is why her and hunter are scandalous. Also characters are teens so they feel free to date like apple and daring are a "couple" but apple said they have forever to be together so thats why daring flirts with other girls since they can date whoever but marriage is different as its an arranged marriage.

Okay I really really really need you to know this about their destinies so I hope you do read all the comments cause this first point is really important for me that you know while continuing the show:
While they are the children of the fairytale characters we know and love, their parents are NOT THE ORIGINALS.
This story takes place after so many generations, but basically when you take part in the story you BECOME that character. Apple’s name will legally change to Snow White when the story starts, just like Raven’s will change to The Evil Queen. It’s like that for everyone, so that’s how they can all say that are the children of those characters.
    Additional things;
This also tied into the fact that the stories have changed and deviated a lot since their originals. So things like Cerise being the child of Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf happened because they didn’t follow the story like they were supposed to.
And for Cedar, her dad made her because when she starts her story, he would become Geppetto, so she wasn’t given birth to.
Hunter is the huntsman for two stories, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood.
Rebels are people who want to deviate from their destiny and also those who choose to support the cause. Technically Maddie would be a Royal but she completely supports Rebels and wants to be a Rebel but she still likes her destiny. Royals are people who want to or at least plan to fulfill their destiny. Duchess wants to change her destiny but she will go through with it if she can’t. She’s a Royal. Dexter is a Royal because even though he likes Raven he still plans on fulfilling his destiny too even though I’m not sure what it is.

A lot of the characters who seem like they should fit into the Rebel category but still do fit into Royals are also just conflicted. They may feel the way rebels do in their hearts, but they are too scared to show it, say it, or act upon it. A lot of it is about appearances, so as long as they still publicly support everyone following their storybook destinies, they're still seen as royals. Even if they might secretly feel differently. It's explored more later on, but I get how it's confusing!

  • @adrianaunderworld2880

My understanding of the dating situation is that while it is part of the Roylas vs. Rebels conflict, its also Hunter not being a prince that could be part of Ashlynn's story. When Apple was talking about True Hearts day, she doesn't talk about meeting with the boys they like, she talks about meeting their "Pre-determined Princes" Something Hunter is not. There are a ton of generic princes that that have no specific destiny that will fill the unfilled roles in various stories. If Ashlynn was dating one of them, it wouldn't really be a problem. Daring himself is supposed to fill the role of prince in Apples story. But, for reasons that will make more sense later, Apple herself doesn't even care about dating Daring, despite being her pre-determined "True Love". On the logic that they have the rest of their future together, so it doesn't matter while they're in school. To sum it up, its a mess.

Hunter is the huntsman from Snow White (the books state this explicitly) so Apple considers him a friend just as she does Ashlynn for being a royal. According to this logic it seems that Royals can be friends with anyone, but can't date outside of their story. Book Apple is way more mature about this because there are a couple inconsistencies
now about your question when it comes to Duchess: She is a Royal, but her story has a sad ending because she's the Swan Princess from Swan Lake, she plans to follow through on her story but if there's a window of opportunity to change the ending she will effectively making her a Rebel

Sparrow Hood is the son of Robin Hood. For the royal and rebel thing, it doesn't matter if they are upset about their story. It matters if they follow it. Odette and Briar both are upset by their story, but will follow it. Ashlyn is straying from the story, so she is technically a rebel however she is keeping up appearance of staying with her story, so she is being classified as a royal right now. Key part is right now.
I actually really love Apple and I understand why she was so stuck on keeping to her story when you get into the later part of the show. It's spoiler stuff, so I will keep it to myself. She is such an interesting character to explore.

She is destined to not have a happily ever after, so she wants to switch places with someone that does. She wants a predetermined destiny that will make her happy, but she needs to destroy someone else's destiny in order to do that

I just want to make a comment regarding the boys that chase apple. In the book and later in the webisodes it is mentioned that there are lots and lots of charmings that are even mostly unrelated to each other and until they sign the book they don't know which story they are the prince for. Everyone assumes that daring is apples prince because he is the most handsome but it may no actually be the case. So other charmings have just enough chance at being her prince. In the books dexter is always confused about whether he should be a royal or a rebal because he doesn't even know what destiny he will be assigned

Don't know if you have yet but you should watch the monster high movie "When Gouls Fall in love" as she had a talk show just like in this episode, this is the closest her character has been to monster high in terms of her behaviour and what she does, that film was all about her basically doing the same thing, using her Cupid powers to help people fall in love who liked each other, obviously she doesn't make random people fall in love, but she sees someone who likes someone else and then gives it a bit of a nudge, however sometimes It doesn't quite work out the way she expected, which is quite funny, but that's just a really good film you should check out especially if you like Cupid

I’m going to explain the Royal-Rebel situation for anybody who’s still confused:
Originally, the school wasn’t separated by Royals and Rebels, but rather Royals and Commoners. Every Royal is of royal descent, except for Blondie, who would exaggerate her heritage and make it sound like she came from royalty. Every Commoner is of non-royal descent, except for Raven, who originally chose to stay in the Commoner’s area because she didn’t fit in with the Royals.
After Legacy Day is when the Commoners became known as Rebels. All Rebels think people have the right to choose their destiny, even if they like their destiny. For instance, Maddie is excited to follow hers but is very much a rebel. Royals all believe that they should follow their destinies, even if they don’t like it. For instance, Duchess is the daughter of the swan princess Odette. She is of royal descent, and thinks she has to follow destiny, but she hates her ending and doesn’t want to go through with it.
Sometimes characters walk the line. Ashlynn, for instance, considered herself a Royal for a while despite dating Hunter. Hunter isn’t her fairytale prince, but dates him anyways, despite agreeing people should follow their fairytales. It could have been that, if things weren’t different, she would have broken up with Hunter once their stories began.

Fun fact #1: Apple White has bad eyesight and wears glasses. But she chooses not to wear them out of self-consciousness.
Fun Fact #2: all of the EAH students have a "magic touch" which is a special talent or ability. Like Briar for example she apparently has super hearing but it only works when she's sleeping.
Fun fact #3: Cerise Hood and Sparrow Hood are distantly related cousins.

      @melancholyjones2873 Před rokem +2

She *does* want her story, just not the ending. She's actually extremely proud of her destiny & that's a big part of why she's a Royal. She thinks everyone should take pride in their family legacies like she does. But she's also jealous that despite being a princess she doesn't have a happy ending, so she specifically wants to take 1 of the other princess's happily ever afters & rewrite how her own story ends. She believes that giving swan lake a happily ever after will make the story more popular & respected. She basically loves her story so much that she's willing to kinda sorta rebel for the sake of upholding it. Girl's complicated.

12:00 The male narrator is on the Royals side so he constantly lies and gaslights.
13:55 Remember that Evil Queen in the Snow White story was her Step Mom. So Evil Queen can date. But yeah - Dexterous only has a crush on Raven, it doesn't mean he is brave enough to go against his destiny yet.
23:40 Especially as everyone knows that all the siblings from Charming broad family are named with the same letter, if they are brothers and sisters.

    • @AshleysAdvice
      @AshleysAdvice Před rokem

The insist of the charming family concerns me though, since there are family of Royals who just pumped out princes for different stories wouldn't some of it being incest, for example Apple's dad was a prince charming and so was Ashley and Dad, so it makes sense she would want to date Hunter because he's not a prince but then Apple wants to date daring charming, but he is the if not her brother, then the sun or cousin of her dad's cousin, so they're at least second or third cousins and that's kind of disturbing when you think about it, because if all the Charmings are related to one another and they always end up with the fairytale princesses like Cinderella or snow white then okay, one of them ending up with Cinderella and one of them ending up with snow White that's fine because they are married brothers okay or cousins, but then it becomes more difficult when they have children because their children are now related so if hypothetically Dearing is let's say cinderella's son then wouldn't he still be Apple's cousin because Apple and Ashley and would be cousins if their parents both married a charming and even if they don't end up with the one that's related to them, they're still distantly related because of their Uncle Or cousin that is married to the Princess, like for example even if they're not closely related, Apple and daring still would share at least a great great grandfather right?

Also another note Royals are not those who follow their destinies and Rebels aren’t those who don’t. They are born into their roles similar to Heroes V Villains except it’s different because not every Rebel is the villain or their story or Vice verse. For example Sparrow (son of Robbin hood) is a rebel but he’s the protagonist of his story. What determines whether they are a Royal or rebel is basically their character archetype. The show isn’t very clear with the hole classification thing anyway though.
Also both Royals and Rebels can have bad endings or good ones. Duchess is a Royal with a bad ending. Rebels just typically tend to side with Raven because 1 most of them have a rebellious nature 2 most of them are ridiculed and have worse endings compared to most royals and 3 Raven is there friend

I know what you mean, poor Raven and the other people that don't don't even get happiness. I also the other royals were stuffer terribly, so they can get even get happiness. I hope they all have a happy, good life. Expect I hate her because she crosses the between selfish and petty. I don't mind a selfish character, as they grow from it. But she crosses the line between being too selfish and entitled. At least with Duchess Swan, it is a lot more sympathy for her because she is screwed.
Basically, she is like Azula of thw show. An Daring, he was selfish but the right of selfish of to grow, unlike Apple who is too way to selfish.

  • @luckyfox1826

Rebels aren't people that want to change their story. In this school a rebel is anyone who isn't a royal or is a villain (seeing as Raven is technically a princess). Hunter, Cerise, and Maddy are all rebels because they aren't royals and Raven is a rebel because she is supposed to be a villain. The royals are anyone who is royalty, but not a villain (again why Raven isn't considered a royal despite being a princess).

To be fair in the book Apple White didn't care much about following storys until she fell down a well as a child cause she didn't do as she was told, that's part of why she wants people to do as their told cause if they don't they could get hurt. But also she does really believe what Grim said, that's why she thinks Raven is selfish ,cause to her Raven is sacrificing all their friends for a future that isn't even guaranteed. I do think Apple is in the wrong though.

    Raven Queen - Rebel
    Apple White - Royal
    Maddie Hatter - Rebel
    Cedar Wood - Rebel
    Ashlynn Ella - Royal
    Briar Beauty - Royal
    Dexter Charming - Royal
    Daring Charming - Royal
    Hunter Huntsman - Rebel
    Cerise Hood - Rebel
    CA Cupid - Rebel
    Duchess Swan - Royal
    Sparrow Hood - Rebel
    Tiny - Rebel
    Blondie Lockes - Royal
Kitty Cheshire - Rebel(?) (she has a whole episode dedicated to the narrators trying to find out what she is, but officially she is classified as a Rebel)
    Lizzie Hearts - Royal
The way they are classified is by whose side they support, so even tho Ashlynn currently has doubts she counts as a Royal because she supports her friend, which is supposed to contrast Maddie who likes her preplanned destiny and is probably gonna continue to try and follow it is a Rebel because she supports her friend
