    I've been using a Mr Gasket fuel pump for 23 months so far on my IDI. It was already on my truck when I got it. I have a $5 small engine fuel filter in line between the tank and pump and replace the filter as needed. It is clear so I can see its condition. It catches trash so it saves the pump. It has been up as high as 10k feet in Colorado and down to sea level in Washington state.

    • @selador11
      @selador11 Před 4 lety +2

      Mike, I think the reason you and others have burned them up is because of that tiny metal fuel filter that comes with them. Trash that. Put a separate clear filter inline before the pump. The pump will last a lot longer.
      I kind of suspect the mfgr knows that. Either planned obsolescence, or they just don't care...

    WOW this video is 4 years old and you never know who is inspired by them years later. I recently bought a 94 F250 IDI turbo. Thr truck runs great all stock...except several times under heavy acceleration the truck just stops. Like it ran out of fuel. It starts right back up but I'm wondering if the mechanical fuel pump can't keep with the demand...and that's what's happening. It has never had any starting problem ever....I live in a warm climate (Florida) Just wondering is this a common problem with these engines. Other than that it runs awesome. Your feedback? Thanks.

    • @groundtogreen1140

    Hey there Mike, First off your videos are my go to troubleshooting and motivation source, Im having some issue's with my 89 7.3 Idi, recently it started running rough after start then settling down to its typical rattle and purr, however it stalled yesterday morning after getting stuck in some aggravating slow traffic, I got it started again and it ran well enough, so I could make another stop at graingers, then back to my yard. Typically the truck starts and runs fine with under 60K miles on it, I keep up with occasional fuel related problems including recent leak at the h2o? sensor on the stock fuel filter housing which I just plugged up as it was never hooked up I recently got the TSV and return lines sorted so that im back to using 2 tanks which really extends my travel distance, Im considering replacing the mechanical pump with what you did but my question is how long do OEM injectors last? Im planning on replacing 2 bad GP's here shortly but in Florida so its not as crucial.

      well a few reasons actually imo
      1. the electric pump can prime without cranking the truck which can make post fuel system work easier
      2. it eliminates a mech pump fuel diaphragm rupture. Not super common but has happened.
      3. this particular pump has a pre screen which can extend filter life. It pulls a lot of the larger debris outta the fuel system
      and finally you can add one soley as a prime/backup pump wiring it on a switch so you have the best of both worlds.
