SWEDISH SANDWICH Cake - Smorgastarta - Smoked SALMON, SHRIMP & Eggs

  • Let them eat Swedish Sandwich Cake! This savory cake is a BIT hit! Stack it with Shrimp, Smoked Salmon, Eggs, Cucumber & Radish, Slather in Cream Cheese and Sour Cream and garnish with Dill & Parsley. Simply DEElish!

    Here are the ingredients and steps to make this recipe!
    Poached Shrimp - whole for garnish and slit horizontally for filling
    Smoked Salmon
    Boiled Eggs sliced
    Cucumber sliced
    Radish slices
    Parsley chopped and whole
    Dill chopped and whole
    Cream cheese
    Sour cream
    Sliced white bread

    I'm Swedish so I may be a bit biased, but Smörgåstårta is the most delicious thing I've eaten in my 37 year old life. There is nothing better!
    It's common to use tuna, ham or thin slices of roast beef on there as well. I'm not too fond of tuna in the cake myself though.

      You forgot that alot of people like to use Liver pâté on the Smörgåstårta also. I like to skip it, i think it makes the smörgåstårta to taste worse.

    I saw this sandwich cake online as part of a news story and super glad I immediately went to good ole YT and waalah. I’m pescatarian, so I’m happy you opted for shrimp and smoked salmon - favs! I’m adventurous and will try this over the weekend lol but a miniature version since it’s just me😋 I see comments on using mayo but I like the cream cheese and sour cream idea better as that’s how I like my eat smoked salmon. I love how customizable it is yet keeping the essence of the tradition. I’m noting several tips to use!

      In sweden at a birthday party you might have Smörgåstårta, then later you have coffe and cake.
      so cake and then more cake

    Some tips:
    -Chop up the meats/veggies and mix them with the 'frosting', that way they blend together better and it is less fiddly to make the layers. It is also easier to cut the cake.
    -Let the cake rest in the fridge for a couple of hours before cutting it, that way the juices will soak into the bread.
    -Ad some lemon slices on top for yellow decorations and for those who might want that.

    If i may suggest something, since you had the very good taste of making a salmon, shrimp smörgåstårta. To the layer with salmon add shredded horseradish and lemon zeist. I saw that you used radishes wich also is very good, but horseradish and lemonzeist is an such delicious combo. To be honest use it anywhere you can :)

    You can be very creative with this. I like to also add tomatoes, especially cherry tomatoes and red onion. Simply delicious.

    Well Finland was a part of Sweden for 800 years, so the choice of "Säkkijärven Polkka" as background music isn´t too much off the mark!
    The cake on the otherhand looks spot on and very tasty!!

    Everybody I've asked a opinion about my "smorgastarta" said: - WORLD CHAMPION🏆.
    People who hates fish, after I push them to "atleast try" said:-DO YOU MIND IF I TAKE ANOTHER SQUARE?
    Another one:- No tnx plz, me and my mother had a sandwich-bar for over 20years, and Im tired of them... After working hard to persuade them with... Plz, it would mean so much for me if you "with such an expertise and professional history of making theese cakes" could grade the quality of mine. Plz, plz on my knee's...you can always spit it out if you dont like...not like, but LOVE! "Second after forcing the fork into her mouth, her eyes looks at me in a sudden way, and says :- HOW IN EARTH DID YOU SUCCED WITH THIS...I would love to take a piece with me to eat home...plz can I take another piece to my mother, she will not believe me if not try herself...fantastic...best ever...how many yet have you done alltogether...WHAT!? ONLY 5-6??? You are lying! 😂
    Anyhow, Im Croat born in Sweden (living now in Dalmatia), and I tell you this my friends over whole world: swedes are world nr 1 when it comes to seafood...and I often dream eating something swedish. Could write a book about me missing swedish dishes...Im crying right now. HA DE' BRA...TJO HEEEJ!❤

    You are useing the correct bread, i can tell you because im the swedish smörgåstårta champion.
    The shrimps should be raw

      No not raw! Maybe they meant not frozen 😃 And you should put it together the day before you serve it to make it set and then you decorate it before serving.

      @@annettehesselius74 obviously felleice didn't point out the fact that it was frozen, but that it was boiled. It should be pre-peeled and in salt brine - fresh. Cooked shrimp is like eating rubber, and it has no flavor left (just as frozen ones also lose flavor)
