Bought one of these for home defense in 2013. Sits right next to my bed against the dresser. Cleaning was tricky because when I disassembled, a small piece fell out and I had to Google to find out where it went.
I have several Mossberg 500 set up for defense and a couple 835 with extended mags. Got a pair of Novas with ghost ring, put extensions on them too. I'll try some 3.5 in shells sometime when I have my shootin buddy to haul me to the emergency room.
Wish they had left hand bolt release too.
Thank you for this informative video on this Benelli.
Thanks for watching!
Hard to find full reviews of this weapon. Most thorough and informative review. Thanks.
I found the same. Appreciate the kind words, and thanks for watching!
Bought one today excited to use it
Great review
I’m considering buying a Benelli as my first shotgun. I really love the look of it.
It's a great gun. Benelli pump guns weren't on my radar before this but they're built well and just run. Thanks for watching!
Very professional vid 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Very comprehensive review, I’m in the market for my first shotgun just for utility, maybe some clays and tossing around the Mossberg 500 the Remington 870 and the Winchester SXP I want to like this gun but I really don’t like that you can’t change the stock I really would like wood furniture I’m still leaning towards the Mossberg at this point new subscriber I’m gonna search to your videos for reviews on those hopefully I can find one because she did a good job on this
I don't currently have any other shotgun vids, but they're in the pipeline! If you're looking for something along this price range, I would definitely say a Mossberg 500 series. Remington quality has fallen off in the last few years which makes me lean more Mossberg lately. I have a Maverick 88 that is still running like a champ
Recently bought a Nova in 20 gauge 26" barrel (20 ga is nova model only, no Super Nova in 20). It most certainly is the most unique pump action i have run across, does have a couple quirks too.
Have not really fired it yet, will get it out in the spring when squirrel season comes back in. If it works out good for me I am looking at adding a Super Nova to the collection.
The biggest downside to the 20 gauge model is there is really little to no aftermarket support for it (accessories), but there is a modest amount of chokes that can be found. The 12 gauge nova and supernovas have all kind off accessories that can be found from qd sling mounts, side saddles, door breacher chokes, etc.
20ga in general accessories are harder to come by, even with a Mossberg or Remington. They're great fun to shoot though. Thanks for watching!
Well done. The forend is the only facet of the Nova/Super Nova I have found less than effective. Using the Haught method for felt recoil reduction and improved cycling speed can sometimes cause my hand to slip all the forward on the grip and cause a delayed cycle. Other than that, I've been impressed with the speed of loading, smoothness of action, and reliability of every load. I'd love to see a redesigned forend with more of a flared hand stop forward. Something like that would be extremely useful, especially on the SBS.
Thanks for watching!
I hate long ones that cover the bottom just in case I have a Jam while the forend is back
Nice video! Wasn’t looking for a Benelli, but a local shop has the Nova Tactical on sale for $279. Ima gunna grab one!
Send it bro you won’t be disappointed. That’s a hell of a good deal. That’s what I got mine for with First Responder discount. It kicks but it’s a shotgun so there ya go lol.
That's nuts. Grab two or three for that price.
Thanks for the video. Great insight and so easy to follow. I am swimming in new terms after wanting to get a good home defense shotgun and personal carry pistol. Mossberg 500 was on sale too, and thought about getting it. If price is $50 difference would you call it a coin flip for home defense choice?
No shotgun has better safety placement than the Mossberg, and no shotgun but the Rem 870 has similar aftermarket support. If you can swing it, the Mossberg 590S can shoot mini shells all the way up to 3". The Mossberg 590, on a side note, was the only pump shotgun able to survive being given to Marines, and we can break anything. None of this is a dig on the Benelli, just the facts, for what they're worth.
Have this same set up and took it out to a home defense training session outside and ran 100+ rounds through it and it was a jam fest all day long. I had taken it out to the same range a few months ago, without issue so I don’t know what is going on with it but now I am frustrated with it and can’t rely on it for home defense because of all the jamming. I was using NSI and Winchester 2 3/4 range birdshot shells. Both brands would get stuck in the chamber as I would cycle the action. I learned to clear it by pulling hard to get the next round in and the jammed one would finally pop out. Calling Benelli about it this week.
I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve had. I had to polish the chamber opening and action bars then consider changing the extractor and extractor spring. I cleaned and oiled the action then ran snap caps to check function. This is a 3.5 inch shotgun with very long action stroke that is easy to short stroke. I got the Magload short action bars and am now very pleased with the faster action. It does require some gun smithing skills to install.
all i needed to hear, im buying one
It's a solid choice, I think you'll like it. Thanks for watching!
Love my nova tach.
I was a bit disappointed when I unboxed my Nova tactical.
The fit and finish of the gun was really sub par especially when people talk so highly of the Italian quality. The plastic molding of the gun receiver had many imperfections, also the receiver holes that you put the forend guide rails through was really bad, look like a rat chewed the holes instead of a machine forming it.
Also the barrel seems paper thin! I was shocked how thin it was compared to my Mossberg and Remington shotguns. Never had a jam though so I guess that’s all that counts, would be nice if they stepped up the quality control at the factory so I feel I got my monies worth.
Can the blood pad be removed and a custom one be made for it?
Is the barrel cylinder or improved cylinder? Please do reply sir. I have Winchester 1300 pump, my friend is selling his nova tactical and I might buy it of him.
Is this the ideal configuration for home defense or would you recommend a different submodel of the Nova?
The other models mostly have longer barrels, so in terms of barrel length this one would be best. The others would certainly work but be more difficult to handle in confined spaces like inside a home. Thanks for watching!
Found this at my local gs for 300 bucks, had to get it
Just got one myself but I can only fit 2 - 2 3/4 length shells.
It says it can hold up to a 3 1/2" shell. However, the magazine tube will only let you house three of those, whereas 3" and less you should be able to house four.
There is a magazine limiter that is installed in the gun. You'll have to remove that in order to store more than two shells in the magazine tube.
There are videos that demonstrate this simple process, or the manuel also gives instruction as well.
This is a great shotgun for the money, period. Go out there and look at the Price of a Remington, or even a Mossberg and you may be Shocked. This is a great choice.
Thanks for watching!
You made a good video.
So, it has a 4rd tube for 3-1/2" shells. Would that hold more than 4 rds of 2-3/4 shells?
It holds 3 rounds of longer ammo and 4 of the shorter. Just got one and was learning it all myself.
Tactical nova shotgun with rifle sights. A Scout rifle it is, right? Fucking outstanding quality!
I got this model, took it shooting for the first time. I could only get 2 shells in the tube. Any similar issues you experienced? Like am I doing something wrong?
Yes. It does actually speak to this in the manuel, but its not front and center.
There is a magazine limiter in the magazine tube. Out of the box, it will only hold two, but if you remove the limiter, it will hold the four as advertized.
I just looked up a couple of videos on youtube to see how to remove the limiter. Its an orange plastic piece that can easily be removed.
Again, if I would have been a little more patient, I would have seen this for myself in the manuel.
The only flaw, the triggers break pretty easy.
Stoeger is owned by beretta benelli corp and is their dudget line. Personally stoeger p3000 pump, m3000 semi are better deals than the benelli or beratta. And stoeger str9 pistols are amazing budget deals.
Thanks for watching!
Budget?
Another downfall, no place on the tube to mount a flashlight
Not a fan of the all polymer design...
