Life is interdependent, all life is. One can't be without the other.

Such a beautiful and inspiring message. I will do my best to spread the ideas of cybernetics

I agree with everything that MCB says about the underlying assumptions of lineal non systemic assumptions of mono cultural industrial capitalism. It goes to show that these assumptions aren't just ideas in our head but are embodied in our daily way of life and that these embodied ideas in our way of doing things in turn perpetuate and justify this now world system. Her ideas and her father's are truly revolutionary. The only thing I question is the idea that cybernetic-systemic assumptions can be really furthered by promoting them in disciplines like economics. Surely for systemic assumptions to be brought about there would have to be a change in the way people live their lives in a practical way, in the way they work and in their daily family life etc. The dominant economic system is one of competition contextualising cooperation. For Gregory and Mary's ideas put in practice it could only be within a dominant economic system where cooperation became the context for competition. I don't see that happening in my lifetime though I may be wrong. I don't believe this change will come about just because a lot of academics have changed their beliefs about the nature of the world and have come up with some new blue print for a better world.

I’m also interested to consider this work of the Palo Alto group(including Bateson) in conjunction not just with the communication research of Rosenberg, and boroditsky and the motivation work of deci and Ryan but also with the thoughts on consciousness and artificial intelligence of hofstadter. I’m interested in how language shapes thought and how nonviolent language can alter thinking, consciousness, and bring peace to earth. I believe the the pursuit of education from a standpoint of consilience (as somewhat simply outlined in the essay I posted) could be a simplistic starting point.

Autonomy is frequently confused with independence. I would update this work of with the consideration of the work of Deci and Ryan, (summarized nicely by Kohn in his book punished by rewards, but also great to check out independently) in that the ABC’s of human need are Autonomy, Belonging, and Competence. Likewise I would modify it with the nonviolent communication work of Rosenberg.
I’m interested to see the likes of Lera Boroditsky and her research on language and it’s effects on thinking m, take into consideration the work of the Palo Alto group, including Bateson but also scheflen, watzlawick, pike, Sapir, bertlanaffy, and birdwhistell, in addition to the motivation/needs works of deci and Ryan and the communicational/needs work or Rosenberg.

We have started a new kind of social movement based on getting people to think and act together to do projects that honor the work ethic and motivation of Rosie the Riveters. None wanted to kill, they wanted to save lives and freedom. We have worked 12 years to prove that people will pull together to do projects at small levels, that, thaken together, are a game-changer. I suggest that MCB and I talk about this and other new ways of looiing at unity. Help me find her, please. See thanksplainandsimple.org

This is a great speech but I was expecting her to talk about actual cybernetic technology and the future of it. A lot of this is natural human psychology and ways of thinking and nothing to do with humans being enhanced with cyber tech in the future. I would regard this as a talk about society, and human psychology for the most part.. I’m enjoying the speech, but really this has nothing to do with actual cybernetic technology going into peoples brains or bodies at some point and application.. And even cognitively enhancing yourself. Cybernetics is literally A combination of organic and cyber technology in the body. Not just people rewiring their brains naturally, on their own. By definition cybernetics is someone, fused with biotechnology and nano tech, in their body and becoming a cybernetic organism. This is a good talk though, but we just have different definitions about what actually being cybernetic is. lol

Cybernetics is the science of systems (biological, mechanical, social etc) and their commonalities. It was invented around WW2 by leading scientists, at the time, in a series of conferences called the Macy Conferences. The cybernetic enhancements technology you are thinking about was popularized by Hollywood in movies like Robocop.
In short cybernetics is almost the exact opposite of analytical science. It is about holism not independent analysis, which is why this women keeps saying the nature of the world is interdependence. You solve problems from the outside in (like an architect), rather from the inside out (like a scientist).
Please look at a video called "Stafford Beer 00 - An Introduction to Cybernetics"

Western civilization since Plato was based on the underlying unity and oneness of being. Ousia connects both mind and the cosmos through likeness. There is nothing really new in Cybernetics from this point of view. In a way Cybernetics is as immanent in Western Civilization as Plato and so are its problems.
