Back in 1993, I was in high school and I saved up my money to buy a set of audio tapes of Bateson speaking at Esalen. I loved these cassettes and listened to them over and over. At some point, they were lost. I never thought that maybe they have been uploaded somewhere online. There's hope! Can't wait to listen to this lecture.

So on point and more and more every day.. Nora. What future has been created for the children and the children's children in Gaza? and what blind spots do the Israeli Government have about the safety, and happiness of their children and children's children ?

Jan Smuts was aghast at the conditions imposed on the Germans at Versailles - read Anthony Lentin "Jan Smuts - a man of courage and vision." I think Bateson missed Smuts' holism which provided the framework for systems thinking, cybernetics and system dynamics. Yet his point is important - according to Michael Hall: "Where there's a frame there's a game." His analogy of setting the thermostat - getting 'trapped' higher level relationships (frame) and the implicit warning of being framed by computation - warning of AI.

Try Internet Archive. It is where I found this recording. I think there are at least two or three more there.

    Essentially Bateson was a polymath.
