    When you come to the United States, you should focus on a specific region because they each have very unique and delicious food. I’m from Texas, and we have great beef barbecue and Tex-Mex. There are also some Southern foods, like chicken fried steak, that have origins around here since Texas is technically Southern. The Southeast (or Deep South) has great pork barbecue and Southern comfort food. The Northeast and Northwest have two different kinds of seafood specialties, but they are both good. Louisiana has a lot of French inspired food, but you shouldn’t go there expecting to find very many foods that are directly from France. There are tons of other food styles and cultures here, but they are each good in unique ways. Merci pour vos opinions. Pour moi, j’aime les Kit-Kats.

      That is a great story, I have heard it many times with slight variations unfortunately it's only about 80% true... the more complete version is more crazy...
      In the mid to late 30s a British company (Roundtree) was already making a version of an older Spanish candy. Then Forest Mars was looking for a way to enter the candy business without benefit of his father's company. While living in Britain he discovered the British version and knew someone in the family that controlled the British company. Since they didn't invent the concept they were willing to share the idea provided he didn't use the same brand name.... since he was going to introduce them in another country. This worked for him because the name was already trademarked in the USA. So he started M&M (Mars & Murrie) independent of the existing Mars candy co. operated by his father.... He happened to hit the timing spot on just prior to us entry in WWII. Especially since Murrie his business partner was the son of Hershey's president and they had control of rationed chocolate supplies for the war effort.. really quite crazy

    Fun Fact: When Stephen Spielberg was in production with his movie, E.T., his producers reached out to the Mars company to see if they could use their M&M candies for the scene where Elliot lures E.T. out of the garden shed and into the house. Mars declined, and so Spielberg and the producers reached out to other companies to find a similar candy. Reese's, which wasn't really much of a competitor at that time, took a chance and let them use their Reese's Pieces for the scene. After the movie came out, sales for the candies soared, and Reese's has been a high seller of peanut butter candies ever since. Because they took a chance, E.T. put Reese's on the map.

Some people like to drink coffee or tea, but I find it doesn't cut the sweetness as well as milk. No skim milk, it won't work. Its good to get a large variety of tastes in the candy and products so you can choose the one you like. When you choose the taste that you like, you can buy just that taste.

    A fact you may find interesting and, perhaps surprising Marie, is that about 67,000,000 of the 330,000,000 people living in the USA, speak a language other than English at home. There are as many in the USA who speak something other than English at home, as there are people in France. 29.1% of people in the USA speak something other than English at home. In 1980, only 11% of all people living in the USA, spoke a language other than English at home. The majority of non English as first language people in the USA speak Espagnol. The world is on the move!

    I am American the problem with American Made Cakes and Candy is that they are all made in big factories .. That is why you get a good flavor and then you get a bad one at the same time.. I can tell a big difference of the Hershey things and they were much better a long time ago.. // Small American Candy Companies make the best .Yes I am well aware that Euro Candy is known to be much better ,like Swiss Chocolate and Reisen a German Candy ...I think the quantity of American Candy and Chocolate products changed alot after the 2000s..

    I've tried bumping my food together, but it doesn't make that sound. Am I doing something wrong?
    Reese's Pieces were featured in the movie E.T. They originally wanted to use M&Ms, but the Mars company decided they didn't want their product associated with an ugly creature like E.T. The filmmakers approached the Hershey company (who make Reese's) and got a product placement deal with them instead. The sales of Reese's Pieces went through the roof. Big mistake on the part of Mars.

    An interesting assortment of products. I'm from the US and have never seen a Reese's cupcake, but I probably wouldn't like it if it was too sweet. Also, the only Kit Kat that I like is the dark chocolate ones (they aren't as sweet). They also make dark chocolate Raisinets, which I love. If you love Reese's I would suggest trying the holiday shapes (Christmas tree/Easter Egg) because the chocolate to peanut butter ratio seems to be better.

    Marie, many of your snack selections aren't typical of what people eat. The Reeses cupcake definitely is one of those that are not common. We also distinguish "snacks" from candy. The chocolate covered cranberries would count as a snack, as would the Raisinettes, but the others would be candy. I'm sure someone will send you a "goodie-box" of things like Doritos, Cheetos, Twinkies, etc. Bon Apetit!

    WHAT! He doesn't like marshmallow with chocolate? Have you ever tried S'MORES?
    It's a camping tradition for a desert that you do over an open fire. You first prepare 2 Graham Crackers (or a sweet butter cookies) with a flat piece of Hershey's chocolate. You put a large marshmallow on a stick and melt it over the fire depending on your preference. I like it flaming and crispy on the outside and melted in the middle. You then put the hot marshmallow onto the chocolate and squish them together with the crackers. Wait a minute for the chocolate to melt and bite in to a piece of heaven.

    The year was 1964. Our school field trip was a tour of the Hershey chocolate factory, and the Reese's factory (both owned by Hershey Foods). I was in 3rd grade (elementary school), and they took us through the huge refrigerated room at Reese's where they had large carts, almost like wheel barrows, of freshly made peanut butter. Being the peanut butter aficionado that I was, I stuck my finger in one to try it out on the way by. Unfortunately, one of the employees caught my little sampling escapade, and told my teacher. She went ballistic and called my mother later on, and my Mom just laughed and said "Well, what did you expect, dragging 25 - 8 year olds through a room full of peanut butter, and not expecting at least one or 2 to try some?"🤣 Truthfully though, they make the best chocolate on the planet.. or at least they used to. I think they changed the recipe over the years, and it's not as good now, as it once was. Pretty cool sampling party Marie!😍👍

      @ephennell4ever Před 3 lety

      It all depends on what your palette is used to; I grew up on Hershey's chocolate, and when I first tried European-style chocolates I didn't like them very much - I missed the creaminess of the Hershey stuff. I've come to appreciate, a lot, the dark chocolate ... but there are times when milk-chocolate is best! For instance, when having peanut-butter, it should *only* be used with milk-chocolate! The darker chocolates, for me, just *don't* work with peanut-butter! Also, as I don't enjoy coffee unless it has plenty of both milk *and* chocolate in it ... obviously I'm not going to like having a dark chocolate with coffee; dark chocolate has a bit of a bitter 'bite' to it - which somehow 'works' with the other flavors in the chocolate - but one of the reasons I don't like coffee much is that it has a distinctly bitter flavor, and the other flavors in the coffee don't help, for me. So having a bitter-tasting coffee with a somewhat bitter chocolate ... not interested in even *trying* it!
      It's interesting that both like the combo of chocolate and peanut-butter (even if you might think that it's a *little* too sweet), because I've watched multiple British and Irish folks try various kinds of chocolate/peanut-butter snacks/treats and almost none of them like *any* of those snacks/treats! But for here, the worst you'll say is that it has "a little too much sugar". Fascinating!
      Keep trying! And *enjoy!*

  • @MichaelScheele
    @MichaelScheele Před 3 lety +1

    Marie, you seem to have an American sweet tooth (taste for sweets).
    American mass produced chocolates are usually sweeter than chocolates from other countries. Smaller/specialty chocolate makers make less sweet chocolates and feature a higher percentage of cocoa.
    BTW, the 26th letter in the alphabet is called "zee" in American English. In British English (and in the rest of the Commonwealth), the letter is called "zed".

I think it was a word in a song we learned but I don't know if the song was French or Quebecois. I have never seen or heard it used since... until today. They are both interesting words, but yours doesn't sound like spiders. 😁 Do you say "arachides" in France too?
