Definitely, go on D-Day, not just any day of the year. The Jeeps, the Sherman tanks , the thousands of soldiers in uniform, making it so much more memorable and real, than going on any other day of the year. And you need 7 days to see enough. I got there on June 2, immediately examining the Merville Batteries that same evening. And I left on June 7, when there were still a lot of important events on the 8th of June that I should have attended. You must include both week ends that surround June 6, to get the full experience. And you must plan to be inside the Normandy zone on June 6, 6am , because otherwise you are locked out for that entire day. I managed to get in by using my road bike, riding 65 km for the day. That is not for everybody: )

They even put up way more fences for the 80th D-Day event. I could not get anywhere near where you were . That is very sad. We cannot appreciate what our soldiers did for us, if we can t even get to the beach , or the cliffs they scaled, because we are too cowardly to let people get close to these sites.

June 6, 2024, D-Day +80 . I could not quite make it to Juno beach. French police had closed off all of Normandie to cars, and I had to park my car at a checkpoint 10 km south of Bayeux, taking my Peugeot bicycle to ride the 23km all the way to Gold beach, Arromanche, and Port En Besin. It was an epic day.

A tribute to our soldiers that paid the ultimate price for the freedom that we Americans and our European friends enjoy. We must defend our Western democracies and Constitutional Republicans against the threats from totalitarians inside our own countries, that we face today. Great video.

I kept my car filled up with gas all the time, because a lot of gas stations were pay card only, accepting none of my US credit cards or debit cards. So whenever I found a station with an attendant, I filled up. And they did take my credit cards. Very strange country : )

New Brunswick is Nouveau Brunswick and Nova Scotia is Nouvelle Ecosse in French. The French (Acadians) were along the shorelines of Nova Scotia (besides in New Brunswick). They were expelled by the English in 1755-1763, however some remained. Today, most Acadian French are found north of Yarmouth, along the shoreline into the Bay of Fundy area (up to Annapolis Valley/Port Royal area) and some in Cape Breton Island (look up Fort Louisbourg).

People from all nations need to go to these final resting places. These young men and women gave their lives for our freedom. May they all rest in peace and God bless them. Thank you for this video.

The number at the bottom of the cross is most likely that young hero's service number, a unique number given to every one of us who join the military to help identify and verify our service. That is awesome to see a French person compare real French to Cajun dialect/Cajun French/Louisiana Creole. I would agree on the decision to visit Louisiana. If you haven’t gone yet make sure that you visit more than New Orleans and take a drive across Southern Louisiana. New Orleans has their own accent while the rest of Southern Louisiana has the actual Cajun Accent. Most of the French is going to be in South Louisiana. Northern Louisiana in the other hand is going to not be French because it is your typical South which is the Southeastern states. I would describe a Cajun Accent to be a combination of a French and Southern Accent. Hear what a Typical Southern accent sounds like and merge that in with the typical French accent and then you’ll notice it. A New Orleans accent in the other hand can sometimes be confused with a New York/Yankee accent. Definitely try a Cajun restaurant. Try the Gator bites/Alligator. I am more into the Cajun seafood. You have Cajun Catfish, Cajun Crawdads one other stuff but I think the overall Cajun food is going to be French food mixed with Southern style food. They have their own pasta as well.

The time I saw them there were 40k in attendance at least. Bands back then real raw talent and their musicianship was top notch. Bands these days can't hold a candle of This band and most any band form the 60s and 70s..

Cajun-French sounds very similar to the Acadian-French (which is located on Canadian East Coast), but the Cajun have a way to turns the pronunciation into something else, very much like the English spoken in Louisiana. Makes no doubt to me that Louisiana itself have a physiological as well than psychological influence on people inhabiting it, over time.

As a Michigan fan I'm willing to acknowledge that The Ohio State band is in the top tier of college bands, along with Michigan, Texas A & M and some others. These bands work and practice as much as the team, and at least in Michigan, they're considered to be an important part of the team. Back about 10 years ago Michigan had an unfortunate choice for an athletic director that wanted to save money so he didn't want the band to travel with the team to a non-conference away game. The entire Michigan community was outraged and protested so much the incompetent athletic director had no choice but to send the band. That's how important they are to the fans and the team. The team doesn't go anywhere without the band! Needless to say, that guy got fired!

Thank you for your trip and video. I liked your relaxed style of wandering through the cemeteries, monuments, beaches, towns, and gardens. The cemetery with all of the plantings and flowers between each grave was lovely, what an extraordinary effort and tribute to these heroes.

Our news just had an interview on D day anniversary with American soldiers that are now 100 years old at Normandy. They flew over to let their friends know that they will never forget them. Different kind of men.
