  • Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my names Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan. In today’s video, I reacted to for the first time to Norway’s entry for this years upcoming contest. MGP took place and the public spoke, and chose SUBWOLFER with ‘GIVE THAT WOLF A BANANA’. The title immediately intrigued me.
This song is crazy. It’s about a Wolf named Keith whose got great teeth. Keith must have been born in 1959. The banana references give Gwen Stefanie a run for her money. It’s a club song, with a funny concept and lots of fancy dress. And for some strange reason, I like it…
There’s something about the way it’s been staged, performed and generally put together that
Signals to me, that these two fellas are taking Eurovision a lot more seriously than we think. It’s well choreographed, it got interesting and memorable customers, and a wacky theme running through the lyrics. It’s not shocking like Latvia, but actually quite endearing.
Musically it’s not the usual stuff I’d gravitate towards, but it’s at least got substance and something unique. And it’s very catchy. I gripped the melody and chorus lyrics very quickly, and that is HUGELY advantageous when it comes to Eurovision and grabbing your audiences attention for three minutes.
It’s not the most exploratory in terms of chords, harmony or lyricism, BUT it has a good melody which in some places is actually quite cleverly written.
So overall, I quite enjoyed it and will be waiting in anticipation to see how this does in May.
    Initial Score: 8/10

This is a perfect example that you can have funny and "silly" songs in Eurovision that do not fall into the dreaded "joke entry" category. The song is well produced and preformed. Yeah the costumes and the lyrics are funny and non-sensical, but when its put together this well? It becomes a joy to watch and, trust me, the hook and chorus will get stuck in your brain for days

Songs like this are what I mean when I say I want more joke entries. Songs that are fun and conceptually are a joke, but still executed well and actually put together.

I know this is an older video which I already watched when it was released, but I wanted to go back and comment.
In this video, I noticed one thing - all the emotion in your eyes when you start your reaction. During the 3 minutes of listening to the song, I see some of that emotion lightening for a little bit. Just wanted to say- that's what this song is about for me! If it can help someone disconnect for 3 minutes, and simply smile and enjoy the song for what it is - then I'm sure that was also the intention Subwoolfer had with Give That Wolf A Banana.
Also, seen the video about some comments as well as I saw Shanes - I don't comment much but just wanted you to know the videos are very much appreciated! Thank you from Norway 🙂

Subwoolfer landed on earth as a mission from Armstrong when he visited their home planet the moon many years ago;)
He told them that on planet earth wolves eat the grandmas and they wanted to help out to give the wolves other food sources like bananas. They are million or billions of years old and are well known over the universe singing on all stages. Just not here on earth before😊. When they landed their spaceship I think they were unclear what their earth names should be so Im not sure where they found their names from but now they are Keith and Jim!
    Great reaction 😃🐺💜🍌

‘Subwoolfer’ -The biggest band in the Galaxy, first formed 4.5 billion years ago on their home planet, the moon. Since then the brothers, ‘Keith’ and ‘Jim’, have conquered the music scene on every planet, making them the most successful pop group ever. On 20th July, 1969, a prophet named Neil appeared to them in a stable, and was soon hailed ‘the man with the strongest arms’. He promised to return telling them he would help them become the biggest band on his planet too, but only once they had written the greatest song in the universe, sung in his native tongue -English. Neil never returned however, and so now armed with the greatest song in existence, ‘Give That Wolf A Banana’, they have come to earth in search of him, and to claim their musical throne by performing at the most important and prestigious musical event in the history of the world -MGP Norway 2022.

Agreed; this is so well written, so cleaver and borderline addictive.
Including little gems here and there. I so love this.
    We both need help. Clearly.
(Did you hear i.e. the rhythmic breathing in verse one? And the subtle chord changes, and the micro vocal variants here and there? These guys/girls are good at what they do.)

No one referencing/comparing with Norwegian Ylvis What does the fox say?
Concept wise they're extremely similar in my opinion...
Musical humour can be very powerful if it's done with finesse, but of course the actual music needs to be catching.
I guess Ylvis could have won if they had entered the competition 8 years ago (the Danish winning song was alright, but 46M views doesn't compare to 1 billion views...), and similarly, Daðði, if there had been a competition two years ago.
However, Dschinghis Kahn wasn't really close in 1979 (ended as #4), although the song clearly has survived well, just like Hallelujah.
And yes, "Keith" is hilarious and awkward...

I second you on all you said, being that the song is not something one should like, if one has a more sophisticated ear. But, if the final will go as planned ( it's all up in the Putin air now)I think it will end in the top 5. Being norwegian I could be biased, but I'm not. It's very clever, and good fun. Also, first time I heard Alekander Rybak, Loreen, and Salvador Sobral I knew they would win.

  • @Doivid297
    @Doivid297 Před 2 lety +23

Fruitarian wolves, Latvian sex-addicted vegans, Slovene pizza - I almost wish Aidan had won MESC with a song about pastizzi, just to complete the saga. (On that note, there actually is a - rather old, maybe 70s - popular song about pastizzi. It's very Maltese, indeed!)
It's not a highbrow artistic piece, but this is hilarious! It's also genuinely fun to listen to, sometimes joke acts are just irritating (looking directly at you, Silvia Night - quite the throwback, I know, but that's the best example of a humorous ESC act that I just cannot stand). Some have suggested that Ylvis is behind this, but nobody really knows. They're pretending to be wolves from outer space - who happen to speak English - and the idea is that nobody knows who they are. Just brilliant. If the televote doesn't top 5 this, something is deffo wrong, especially in these hard times.

Chanel had the best performance I’ve seen in Eurovision 😍🔥🔥
I don’t know if you react to other music, but have you heard about AURORA?
    She’s a singer/songwriter from Norway.
I guarantee you will love her, most people do.
She found an electric piano in the attic when she was 6 years old, and started writing music without lyrics.
At the age of 9 she wrote with English lyrics.
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 13 -14 years old.
She plays piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of)
And she’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano.
“Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017
    “Lucky” live from Nidarosdomen 2017
She wrote this when she was 9 years old, it’s her anti-suicide song
“Runaway” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015
She wrote this when she was 11 years old
Her music video has over 400 million views, but her live performance is much better

Shortly after their victory there was a theory planted online (by whom I have no idea) but I have chosen to believe in it as it makes sense: The song is written during pandemic times (sometime in 2021) and the song is all about Covid 19 and the dangers of not taking precautions. The wolf in the lyrics is the potential danger of someone being infected with Covid and then going to their grandparents house and infecting them, and as we all know elderly people handled the pandemic less than younger. You could say Covid 19 (the wolf= someone potentially infected) loved eating grandmas (elderly people with weaker immune defense systems). The banana is the vaccine in this situation. Before you visit your grandparents, make sure to get vaccinated to keep your eldely safe and protected. Subwoolfer were asked about this theory but they wouldnt confirm or deny at the time (they probably didnt want to offend anyone), but in my opinion its a great way to wrap a message into something familiar as a fairytale we all already know of (Little Red Riding Hood), and it keeps in line with Eurovision songs having current topical themes.

And while I love the music in this, and the song is really catchy, the lyrics are indeed ridiculous. And the reason why I don't want this to succeed (even though I know it will probably win the televote), is that I am afraid that Eurovision will go back to stuff we had in the 00s when we had A LOT of joke acts (at which point I stopped watching ESC for a while). But I have to say disqualifying Russia from the competition is completely wrong 100%. I stand not only with the Ukrainian people but also the Russian people. I would urge you to learn more about the complicated history of this particular proxy war (for the U.S. against Russia) - it is not the simple false narrative that is being propagated by corporate mainstream media). I am a tennis fan and this whole not showing the Russian flag for Russian players who have NOTHING to do with the proxy war at all is stupid and completely idiotic.
