NORWAY EUROVISION 2022 - REACTING TO ‘GIVE THAT WOLF A BANANA’ BY SUBWOLFER (FIRST LISTEN)

- Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my names Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan. In today’s video, I reacted to for the first time to Norway’s entry for this years upcoming contest. MGP took place and the public spoke, and chose SUBWOLFER with ‘GIVE THAT WOLF A BANANA’. The title immediately intrigued me.
This song is crazy. It’s about a Wolf named Keith whose got great teeth. Keith must have been born in 1959. The banana references give Gwen Stefanie a run for her money. It’s a club song, with a funny concept and lots of fancy dress. And for some strange reason, I like it…
There’s something about the way it’s been staged, performed and generally put together that
Signals to me, that these two fellas are taking Eurovision a lot more seriously than we think. It’s well choreographed, it got interesting and memorable customers, and a wacky theme running through the lyrics. It’s not shocking like Latvia, but actually quite endearing.
Musically it’s not the usual stuff I’d gravitate towards, but it’s at least got substance and something unique. And it’s very catchy. I gripped the melody and chorus lyrics very quickly, and that is HUGELY advantageous when it comes to Eurovision and grabbing your audiences attention for three minutes.
It’s not the most exploratory in terms of chords, harmony or lyricism, BUT it has a good melody which in some places is actually quite cleverly written.
So overall, I quite enjoyed it and will be waiting in anticipation to see how this does in May.

A very clever reaction. We wolf it 👍🐺🚀
You mfs 🤗 I love this song 🐺🍌
I wolf it very much as well😍
Im Norwegian and i love Subwoolfer❤❤
Lissen to The language of love, two old men, the tooth by Ylvis
you guys are a gem ^^ congrats bringing so much joy and fun
This is a perfect example that you can have funny and "silly" songs in Eurovision that do not fall into the dreaded "joke entry" category. The song is well produced and preformed. Yeah the costumes and the lyrics are funny and non-sensical, but when its put together this well? It becomes a joy to watch and, trust me, the hook and chorus will get stuck in your brain for days
"Keith" and "Jim" are the names of the two anonymous singer btw. :)
Songs like this are what I mean when I say I want more joke entries. Songs that are fun and conceptually are a joke, but still executed well and actually put together.
I know this is an older video which I already watched when it was released, but I wanted to go back and comment.
In this video, I noticed one thing - all the emotion in your eyes when you start your reaction. During the 3 minutes of listening to the song, I see some of that emotion lightening for a little bit. Just wanted to say- that's what this song is about for me! If it can help someone disconnect for 3 minutes, and simply smile and enjoy the song for what it is - then I'm sure that was also the intention Subwoolfer had with Give That Wolf A Banana.
Also, seen the video about some comments as well as I saw Shanes - I don't comment much but just wanted you to know the videos are very much appreciated! Thank you from Norway 🙂
That reaction to Keith was hilarious 😄🐺, I didn't know it was old-fashioned
Jim isn't that popular either I'd guess.
I didn’t know it was old-fashioned either!
Norwegian here, I love your reaction to this! I also very much support what you said. Glad you got some joy from our wolf song, thats the most important part. They may not look like it but I do believe they're serious :D
Norway are bringing the FUN to Eurovision 2022. I love this song and the performance is hilarious. Surely top ten for being nothing but FUN.
You know what?
There has been, and still there's so much seriouisness and bad things happening around.
I just LOVE this. It makes me SMILE BIG TIME, and I wanna DANCE...
IMAGINE being in the audience while this is on stage. Whole arena goes FLASH MOB🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hahaha! This is just fun, and I love that you understand that it's a great production. I am also quite strict and this is just a bloody well written pop song
if you watch the beginning of the video, where they present the song and the songwriters, then the songwriters are written up as Keith, Jim and DJ Astronaut. so my guess is that the wolves' names are Keith and Jim
YUM YUM YUM...NORWAY'S GONNA WIN...YUM YUM YUM!!
Give that 12 points to Norway
You traitor, you already gave them to Chanel, Spain. Aren't you that French who gives twelve to everyone?
This performance is silly without being stupid, it brings a bit of lighthearted fun which is always good. for me 7.5, midtable potential top 10.
The best song in eurovision 2022
Love your reaction 😍 This was definitely my MGP winner, so fun and well produced.
Subwoolfer landed on earth as a mission from Armstrong when he visited their home planet the moon many years ago;)
He told them that on planet earth wolves eat the grandmas and they wanted to help out to give the wolves other food sources like bananas. They are million or billions of years old and are well known over the universe singing on all stages. Just not here on earth before😊. When they landed their spaceship I think they were unclear what their earth names should be so Im not sure where they found their names from but now they are Keith and Jim!
Great reaction 😃🐺💜🍌
‘Subwoolfer’ -The biggest band in the Galaxy, first formed 4.5 billion years ago on their home planet, the moon. Since then the brothers, ‘Keith’ and ‘Jim’, have conquered the music scene on every planet, making them the most successful pop group ever. On 20th July, 1969, a prophet named Neil appeared to them in a stable, and was soon hailed ‘the man with the strongest arms’. He promised to return telling them he would help them become the biggest band on his planet too, but only once they had written the greatest song in the universe, sung in his native tongue -English. Neil never returned however, and so now armed with the greatest song in existence, ‘Give That Wolf A Banana’, they have come to earth in search of him, and to claim their musical throne by performing at the most important and prestigious musical event in the history of the world -MGP Norway 2022.
The look of confusion on your face as the song started was perfect, haha. That's exactly the reaction I hoped for.
loved your reaction
Its so catchy and fun 😄
Yes! I too chiefly listen to -and perform - classical music. With passion and knowledge.
But this makes me want to dance. And I don't dance.
Agreed; this is so well written, so cleaver and borderline addictive.
Including little gems here and there. I so love this.
We both need help. Clearly.
(Did you hear i.e. the rhythmic breathing in verse one? And the subtle chord changes, and the micro vocal variants here and there? These guys/girls are good at what they do.)
One of them is well known in England: from A1: Ben Adams, now living in Norway. The other one is Gaute Ormåsen.
No one referencing/comparing with Norwegian Ylvis What does the fox say?
Concept wise they're extremely similar in my opinion...
Musical humour can be very powerful if it's done with finesse, but of course the actual music needs to be catching.
I guess Ylvis could have won if they had entered the competition 8 years ago (the Danish winning song was alright, but 46M views doesn't compare to 1 billion views...), and similarly, Daðði, if there had been a competition two years ago.
However, Dschinghis Kahn wasn't really close in 1979 (ended as #4), although the song clearly has survived well, just like Hallelujah.
And yes, "Keith" is hilarious and awkward...
Keith is a typical wolf name.
love it, it is fun, and catchy and well produced, love the dancers
bop bop bop this song is top 3 top 5 matriaal
the singers in subwofer those who sing, give that wolf a banana are Ben Adams and the gaute ormåsen
I have to agree with you hehe..
goes against my insticts, but i do love the whole package :)
Love it! 🙂 Greetings from your neighbour 🇸🇪
I second you on all you said, being that the song is not something one should like, if one has a more sophisticated ear. But, if the final will go as planned ( it's all up in the Putin air now)I think it will end in the top 5. Being norwegian I could be biased, but I'm not. It's very clever, and good fun. Also, first time I heard Alekander Rybak, Loreen, and Salvador Sobral I knew they would win.
Fruitarian wolves, Latvian sex-addicted vegans, Slovene pizza - I almost wish Aidan had won MESC with a song about pastizzi, just to complete the saga. (On that note, there actually is a - rather old, maybe 70s - popular song about pastizzi. It's very Maltese, indeed!)
It's not a highbrow artistic piece, but this is hilarious! It's also genuinely fun to listen to, sometimes joke acts are just irritating (looking directly at you, Silvia Night - quite the throwback, I know, but that's the best example of a humorous ESC act that I just cannot stand). Some have suggested that Ylvis is behind this, but nobody really knows. They're pretending to be wolves from outer space - who happen to speak English - and the idea is that nobody knows who they are. Just brilliant. If the televote doesn't top 5 this, something is deffo wrong, especially in these hard times.
They are new Daft Punk? Or it's them!😲😂
@@jesuism6386 Hehe, maybe, who knows (mysterious synth music)
A song about pastizzi or pizelli would be so good 😊
An song about pierogi also already exists: czcams.com/video/afBKjqAkNSw/video.html
@@berlineczka God bless our cultures' delicious pastries with various fillings
Not a fan of reaction videos but this was just hilarious. 😂 And to me this year’s top entries are from Portugal 🇵🇹 and Norway 🇳🇴.
Cheers from 🇦🇱
Glad you enjoyed it:)
I really like it even I'm not sure to understand the sense of the lyrics😅
I think a lot of people have forgotten how much FUN Eurovision used to be. I think this song is a glorious throwback to those fun entrants. (And don't we need some fun these days?) And as you said, it is also actually a well-crafted entry.
They actually do call themselves Keith and Jim 😂😂😂😂
Its a whole consept. They are 4,5 million years old and they are from space, They are already intergalaxic stars and have come to earth to concer the biggest music festival. they lived the last thousand years on the moon, and have a profet called armstrong ( they call him the man with the strongest arms.) when they reached the earth they took the form of the first living creature they met ( and it was woolfs ) but they didn,t deside on names yet ( that,s why i kall you Keith and Jim in the song). There is also a lot more, but too long to write with my poor google english. it,s quite fun when you got the hole story ( consept 🙂 No one knows who they are, but it,s most belived that its Gaute Ormåsen and Ben Adams from A1
I have a colleague from London, his name is Keith, and he's 28 years old :D
Love your comments!
12 from denmark
I think the names of the two singers are Keith and Jim.
Enjoyed your reaction 👍
I’m from Norway and I love this song, but I hoped Spain would win.
Chanel had the best performance I’ve seen in Eurovision 😍🔥🔥
I don’t know if you react to other music, but have you heard about AURORA?
She’s a singer/songwriter from Norway.
I guarantee you will love her, most people do.
She found an electric piano in the attic when she was 6 years old, and started writing music without lyrics.
At the age of 9 she wrote with English lyrics.
Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was about 13 -14 years old.
She plays piano, guitar, mandolin and harp (what I know of)
And she’s self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano.
“Through the eyes of a child” live from Nidarosdomen (cathedral in Norway) 2017
“Lucky” live from Nidarosdomen 2017
She wrote this when she was 9 years old, it’s her anti-suicide song
“Runaway” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015
She wrote this when she was 11 years old
Her music video has over 400 million views, but her live performance is much better
✌️🌍❤️
This BANANA thing is from the Minions xD
Love from Norway =)
America is still behind on dropping the name Kieth. We still got a few
Wolves are dogs who refused to give up their freedom and submit to the humans.
Respect for the free spirit of wolves.
The chorus of "No roots"...
Loved the song it was catchy and hilarious, you need to get over the name Keith, but you did get there in the end 😉
I find the song irresistable, even with the caveats that it is ephemeral, all concept, and impact based.
I too get the humour. -
Agree about banning Russia's song.
Even if you don't like wolves or bananas you can't not like this. It's such a brilliant concept. Also even if you don't like bananas I think you'd better buy some, to keep grandma safe I mean, haha.
Hi Rachel!
Dear Rachel, maybe I'm a pessimist, but I haven't already forget the Russian war ships that were in the Italian part of the Mediterranean one month ago without a clear reason...
Anyway, let's focus on the purpose of your channel: great reaction, as always. You are the only Eurovision fan that I trust and listen carefully
You didn't betray your musical intellect at all! It's perfectly OK to love a song in a genre you ordinarily don't like. It shows how successful the song is if it appeals to someone who doesn't like club music.
Aliens talking to a wolf
Shortly after their victory there was a theory planted online (by whom I have no idea) but I have chosen to believe in it as it makes sense: The song is written during pandemic times (sometime in 2021) and the song is all about Covid 19 and the dangers of not taking precautions. The wolf in the lyrics is the potential danger of someone being infected with Covid and then going to their grandparents house and infecting them, and as we all know elderly people handled the pandemic less than younger. You could say Covid 19 (the wolf= someone potentially infected) loved eating grandmas (elderly people with weaker immune defense systems). The banana is the vaccine in this situation. Before you visit your grandparents, make sure to get vaccinated to keep your eldely safe and protected. Subwoolfer were asked about this theory but they wouldnt confirm or deny at the time (they probably didnt want to offend anyone), but in my opinion its a great way to wrap a message into something familiar as a fairytale we all already know of (Little Red Riding Hood), and it keeps in line with Eurovision songs having current topical themes.
I hope the wolves of Norway are not gonna eat al the competitors otherwise we have no final on saturday evening !!
Sorry Rachel, but thanks for the mention of Ukraine.
Sadly they are left to be crushed, because we thought
it was the peaceful path that was right. We were wrong.
They pay the price for our mistakes. They are on their own. Peace.

Little Red Riding hood... get it?
Norway is turning in to that stage where we're rich enough to make good quality meme-worthy music just for the laughs. But we're cheap enough that we don't want to hoste anything. Lol.
Jokes aside I actually quite like it, it's not what I listen to all the time however it's fun and makes you happy and that has a worth. Yet its of such a quality that it's not cringe
12 bananas to Subwoolfer and Norway. Keith and Jim are A 1 Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen. The song is fun and crazy. The ruthem is great, crazy costume and fun dance. Norway loves it . Hopefulle Europe and the Universe will love it too....

Haha
thx from norway! this might be ben adams psrt of the norwegian-british boyband that toppee the uk charts back in the millenium shift. hes now living in norway and just become a father. thx for positive review!
War in Ukraine is a really serious fact. I also worried about the facts that involves Ukraine these days.
We all want a peaceful world, but sometimes it's not possible.
By the way, thanks again for your reaction. You're always fabulous in your reactions and really beautiful.
come on Rachel, you can't really comment this, too. There's a limit! :)
Ukraine will of course win this year, but Norway might be the runner up.
Do you prefer Norway 2021 or 2022 ?
Norway 2022 by a country mile :)
@@ThePeaceAround okey i love both ❤
So... I love your reaction.. :)
And while I love the music in this, and the song is really catchy, the lyrics are indeed ridiculous. And the reason why I don't want this to succeed (even though I know it will probably win the televote), is that I am afraid that Eurovision will go back to stuff we had in the 00s when we had A LOT of joke acts (at which point I stopped watching ESC for a while). And I don't want that. I really like having a Eurovision with a lot of really good songs.
Give Putin a banana, so he doesn't eat Ukraine
8/10 ??????
We all send love to ukraine , and remember the normal russian out in the street did not start this war so nice to them
Ok, Eurovision, you go on on this line. I wished the girl who stoled the hammer of Thor to represent Norway. Well it is my opinion, my preferences...Music, not noise.
Keith and Jim are those 2 fake names.
Explains a lot does it
Boy do I dislike this song. 1 out of 10. Not good at all. Truly hideous and awful! This may very well be the worst song in the competition.
But I have to say disqualifying Russia from the competition is completely wrong 100%. I stand not only with the Ukrainian people but also the Russian people. I would urge you to learn more about the complicated history of this particular proxy war (for the U.S. against Russia) - it is not the simple false narrative that is being propagated by corporate mainstream media). I am a tennis fan and this whole not showing the Russian flag for Russian players who have NOTHING to do with the proxy war at all is stupid and completely idiotic.
A little bit too trashy, c'mon
