    I have some ZIPP 404s that I bought new in 2003. I only used them on race days, so I never really got a feel for them. The past year, I started using all my race gear as my everyday gear (considering it’s almost 20 years old, might as well enjoy it). Saw a random video somewhere about balancing wheels and decided to check my ZIPPs. They were off by a lot. I balanced them and now the bike feels smooth and fast, like I can roll forever. During your spindown of the rear wheel, the bike was bouncing up and down, which is a sign the rear wheel isn’t balanced. Might want to take it off the bike (so there’s no chain friction) and see if it’s balanced. Same with the front wheel, take it off the bike and check it. Disk brakes on cars drag a tiny amount, that could cause your wheel to look like it’s balanced even when it’s not.

    • @paulbonner8874
      @paulbonner8874  Před 2 lety +1

      You're right about the balance. I saw that in the back wheel also. I'll look into getting it balanced.

  • @grvl307
    @grvl307 Před 2 lety +4

    Great review, thanks! One thing; You can't really conclude anything about the wheels when they spin when the bearings aren't loaded. Only way to test is to do a test where you roll down a hill without pedaling and see how long it takes (on the same tires, same psi, same system weight, etc)

    • @paulbonner8874
      @paulbonner8874  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for the info. I'm the first to admit, I'm not being scientific about this and on the road, the wheels roll nicely.

      I think is better to measure your actual seat high and see the máximum and minimum high possible on the Bike. Maybe on the large size seatpost is very deep on the frame and on the medium size your seat high is possible with more seatpost out.
      I asked on Canyon and they recommend Medium size for me 186cm on the ultimate. I do not have the Bike yet

      I haven't taken it on Pilot Mountain (NC) yet but around my house, it climbs really well. The bottom bracket stiffness with the thru-bolt connection for the wheels sends all the power to the tires. It's not light though.

    The BB86 bottom bracket wasn't designed to house a 30 mm spindle. This forces your bearings to be undersized, which is not a good thing for performance or longevity. Great bike but people should get the Shimano version... with 24 mm spindle.

    Hi. I have the same exact model as yours. I noticed a small play when I move the seat post to forward and back and some creaking sound. But when Im out riding, the sound disappears. I applied the required grease for both lower clamp and upper rubber collar. Do I need to be worried? Im thinking of adding electrical tape or some thin heavy duty plastic to act as a shim. Thoughts?

    • @paulbonner8874

      I have not had any issues with the seat post since I learned about the the technique for installation as seen in my other video. You should have a little play as that gives us back some comfort on the road. I've seen others use tape but Canyon doesn't recommend it.

    I admit since i ride a flat bar i can’t go back to a roand, a round bar is so anoying in comparision to the canyon cockpits, the handlebar on the top has so more relaxed grip. The canyons like to bit more sitting in front of the bike, makes the handling so crisp and with lot of confidance. But with little to non pressure on the wrists.
