- This video is a long term review of my Canyon Aeroad CF SLX roadbike that I bought in 2016 and have ridden for 35000 km! I will show and talk about everything there is to say about this bike and all the parts I replaced, changed and upgraded in the last years. I will also discuss the problems and issues I had with this bike and how they got resolved. This video was a lot of work as I go through 5 years of footage and cycling adventures of the Canyon Aeroadcf SLX roadbike!

How well does it climb? How is the stiffness? Is it comfortable on long rides? This is not your average review, unboxing or first look video. This is a honest, comprehensive, long term review of the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 6.0. Yes, when I bought it in 2016 there actually was a 6.0 version. And there were no disc brakes if you're wondering... I will talk about all the separate parts of the bike like the looks, the price, the frame and geometry, the group-set, the wheels, the brakes, the seat, handlebars, rake shift, and more. Also all the parts I've replaced to fix problems or to make the bike more to my preference. I have asked YOU guys for questions, here on CZcams and on my Instagram page. I have incorporated most of the questions in the video and will answer the rest in the next video which will be like a Q&A on the Aeroad! I hope you guys find this video helpful or entertaining, please let me know what you think. The topics and time codes can be found below:

Super video! I particularly like the part where you spoke about resolving the issues with your front derailleur and seat post. I’ve been looking at a Inflite CF SL 8.0 for a while and learning about Canyons service level encourages me to get more concrete. Thanks!
Love the honesty and transparency of your video. Well done. I have almost 20.000km on the 2017 CF SLX 9.0 and just like you love it. Thank you for the video.
Excellent review, thanks. I'm surprised at how many people seem to be criticizing Canyon after this, I thought that a) after such heavy use, it's not THAT shocking that some things will crack or get broken. It's not just 35000kms, it's 35000 kms at high speeds, high wattages in races, a lot of it on bad roads, and under -no offense- under a big guy. And b) Canyon seems to have been offering a stellar assistance, replacing things fairly when it's their fault.
Yeah man i agree! I’m not an average rider! I beat the shit out of this bike by doing what you just said. Full gass!! So yeah, stuff breaks, you fix it. That’s how it goes.
I seen a handful of canyons that had the for break or replaced although I hear that they ride brilliantly before they break 😅
Yeah I agree. Their warranty is actually pretty decent after seeing this video. If you only own one bike, I would expect Canyon to expedite their shipping times. However, I think most manufactures would take forever or go the round about method...Especially the Italians.
Ive seen multiple canyons crack tho. It is not uncommon for them.
Vladimir Jacob if fork and frame were changed then it does not have 35.000 km...
awesome review man! love the detail and hard work you put into it!
especially linking up with old clips, keeps it super interesting as well!
This was probably the most honest comprehensive bike review I’ve seen yet! Thank you for posting, just subscribed!!!
cheers man! welcome to the channel!
Wow. I wish there were these kinds of reviews available for more bikes. Thank you for taking the five years to ride the bike and make this video!
Love your content as always, I watched your video before I got my Aeroad CR SLX 7.0 in Dec 2019. Thanks again for this video after 5 years of experience...
good indepth video Jasper. When your cranks had issues it reminds me of some issues ive ran into with my bike. They say shop LBS and get better bikes and service but sometimes they dont care anymore than the local walmart. Its all about money and getting you in and out the door.
I have a 2018 CANYON AEROAD CF SLX Disc...LOVE IT....nearly 20,000 miles...
This was an incredibly enjoyable video Jasper. So much CZcams content is about the immediate present - about things that just happened. This Canyon Aeroad "story" covering several years and many thousands of kilometers felt so different - so, I dunno, refreshing. Great review of many of your great old videos. In fact, your legendary Vontoux descent video is how I found and subbed to you in the first place, at least 2 years ago. This summary of years of riding told through the lens of the bike is awesome. I ride a Canyon Endurace myself. Excellent bike - but I yearn for an Aeroad (disc) one day. Great video Jasper bravo 👏
Thanks brian!!
Omg I just got my new frame delivered today can't wait. Btw thanks for the update and content on your channel I ordered just the frame and I am going to transfer my drive train and wheels to this new AEROAD CANYON. Thank you
Have fun!!!!
bought mine cf slx in 2016 too. then discovered ur channel. subs since that time.
Can't believe I just watched a 30min+ long term review of a bike. Great video for sure ✌️😷👍
Nice video Jasper, thanks for all the information. Keep it up
This is how bike reviews should be done, well done Jasper! 100% agree with your statement about the 6800 FD - I had issues on my Endurace. Went Dura Ace 9100 on my Ultimate SLX and the new design of Shimano FD is much better suited.
Di2 baby..... Its whats for dinner, and is coming on my 2022 Endurace.
Biggest issue I had with cheaper wheels is creaking in the rear hub. It sounds like it would come from the crankset. But really, everytime it was the rear wheel. Sometimes more sturdy quick releases fixed it, sometimes not.
You feels so much faster if the only sound you hear is the wind and your tires on the road ;)
This is the type of review professional journalists rarely do but is much more relevant for those of us who ride a lot: what's it like to actually live with a bike. This one seems like a mixed bag. No bottom bracket issues, which is interesting as Canyon does not have a stellar reputation with BB reliability. The cracked frame and cracked fork are concerning, regardless how it happened. I'll never buy a rim brake bike again, so not concerned about the brake issues. Lots of bikes with aero wedge retention systems seem to have the slipping seatpost issue, this appears to be another one.
Yeah the journalist Will usually give You a “first ride” review which is kind of useless most of the times.....
They are no such "journalist" anymore, it's "influencers" - someone who gets free stuff and in return for more free stuff they published positive reviews.

Awesome thorough review. Same bike, bought at the same time, got the yellow/black version instead. No frame issues (been lucky with only one crash) but a couple of similar problems.
1. Rake adjustment insert screws are short and easily tear their threads. They come out easily if the quick release is not loose enough.
2. Did same with wheels on a Swiss tour but that was forced as the rear rim split by a nipple about 3 or 4 cm. Dead. Put in fulcrum zeros for the mountains and breaking was much better but it does look very odd!
3. Running 52 34 and 12 32 with same original length rear derailleur. As long as not cross chaining it all still works fine and changes smoothly but goes through gear cables quickly.
4. Arione seat also broke, on a runner not the seat. Never really comfortable so use an Antares now.
Great speed in and out of corners. Agile. Good acceleration. Lovely looking bike and really enjoyed it for 4 years and 35000km. Been loving in tropical climate so it gets fair wear and tear from sweat and humidity but has done well.
Again, great review and good to see similar problems and what to look out for.
Great man! Good to hear I’m not talking rubbish hahaha 😉
awesome views coming down that hill! Great video; thank you for the share!
As someone about to buy the same bike (updated variant), this was a great review to watch. Thanks
Thanks. Hope it was useful
My go-to gear setup is a 50/34 in the front and an 11-25 in the back. 11 speed sram red etap. At 140 lbs, i dont need smaller gears for climbs unless im hitting something over 20% which is almost never. And when I decend I can still get up to 40 mph pedaling or i can just supertuck to go faster and save my evergy. I love the small gear changes. Makes it easy to keep at 25-26 mph on flats for my group rides.
really well-edited video! Funny how so much of your bike was replaced over time, and your bike looks great. The colours are also pretty timeless and well-chosen!
Awesome video Jasper, your Canyon Aero looks amazing with the blue Chris King hubs at 22:00.Cheers.
Thanks! I’ve wanted Cris king hubs for as long as I can remember!
That is one very thoroughly tested bike! Good video. Seems like Canyon takes great care of their customers. (I have a 2022 Endurace coming tomorrow! Very Jazzed!)
Great video Jasper!
My lord, you are patient. I'm glad these things don' t only happen to me.
Nice review, thanks for the effort. And very cool socks 🤙
PS: I got 55'000km (7 years, no racing) on the Ultimate CF SLX: smooth ride all the way , Mavic Ksyrium SLR have good braking power, but the freehub lasted only 30'000km
Lots of kms!!
this is the first youtube video iv not skipped forward .. excellent

A clear and concise review, nicely done
Had het zelfde model van zadel (op mijn oltre x4) was voor mij niet ideaal ben ook overgeschakeld naar een ander.
Mooie fiets, Toffe video, ga zo verder 💪
This channel is underrated
nice, you have many memories with the Canyon
Really great video and amazing effort put into it. I particularly like you boxing / un boxing your child with your young housemate watching from their cot.

But hey just kidding you make real awesome content ... Kudos to that! 👏👍
Astounded by your experience with Canyon customer service. Comforting as a newish owner of an Ultimate.

Very nice in depth of a video! Got a new subscriber!
Cheers! Welcome!!
Great Vid! Love the bike looks so nice
Awesome video....absolutley loved it!!
With that model of Shimano crank, we have experience crack on cranks ( 2 pcs of a front crank), yours was a compression failure due to crank tightening mistake and the low seat its because ( Mostly) there is a less or wrong application of Carbon Paste( which aside from the seat tube application, you NEED to put it also on the triangular screw slide just below the screw hole, which is part of the assembly), We lost the race because of that from a lead point. we noticed it often slips without a paste on the triangular metal part(our experience with canyon same model up to now it still works fine, a Race machine but somewhat okay in uphill and indeed built for flats and mild roll areas/ Cheers very accurate review.
This is a frikin' amazing review!!!! Thanks, so in-depth
Really nice no-BS info, Jasper, thank you very much!
Very good video, interesting to hear a review on this bike as its got a pretty big name for itself...and the (mavic) wheel comment too!
Great Video and one of the Best Bike Reviews! It's strange but I have the Cosmic Exalith Rims on my SuperSix with Exalith2 Break Pads and the breaking power is awesome. No Problems of overheating on long discents with my weight of ~ 85 kg/193 body height.
I’m glad you don’t have any issues 👍🏻👍🏻
You should start trying bikes and making reviews! I insist, you always find the way to make all your videos interisting and entertaining... I totally replaced my evening trash-news watching with your videos... highly recommendable for good mental health 🤓🤙🤙🤙
Great video, loved it!
Well done Jasper. I wish I was your age when I started riding seriously. I am 70 yo now and started riding hard 3 years ago in Salt Lake Utah and love my 2023 Aeroroad. I need to compliment my wheel set with better climbing wheels for those type of training days. Ride on sir.
That's awesome!
Hi Jasper and other Aeroad fanboys! About that 6800 front derailleur (@22:09): you can already improve the shifting a lot by mounting the cable left/clockwise on the locknut in stead of right/counterclockwise (like it was on your video). This way the angle/distance is better and the 'dead point' is gone. Keep up the sharing!
yeah I could see how that works, however this is not how it's supposed to be. the cable wont go in the little ''slot'' thats carved in the derailleur arm. but if it works it works (Y)

Nice review!
Nice review 👍🏻
Super Video, perfect cutting. Thanks!
I have the same bike. Didn't like the saddle, it was making me numb (didn't break though). I also didn't have the problem with the front derailleur that you are describing, although I have only seriously ridden 2 other types of bikes and the force seemed similar. Sold the original wheels for €750 used. Everything else was OK. Thank you for the video!
Great video! Thorough and clear.
Great video, like others have said watching your first video on the bike and subsequent ones got me to purchase the 18 disc version.
Great bike even if it did come with a warped front rotor from canyon 😑
Great video! My previous bike was an Endurace but I always look for something more race position. I waited for Canyon to upgrade the Aeroad (which did not happen) and now I moved to the new Specialized Tarmac.
Good choice!!
The new tarmac isn’t out yet.. sl7 is about to be released...
Great content, Jasper!
Cheers!
Out of all the cyclists on youtube, your channel is by far the best to watch. Keep it up bro!
Thanks!! Spread the word please mate!
I decided to buy the used one of this exactly same model next week. I remember, 2-3 years ago, I watched your video and finally I’m going to enjoy this model.
After watching this vid, nervousness started
Hope you enjoy the bike!🤙🤙
How did it go ?
everyone needs to have an intimate relationship like this with their bike
Those deep spark wheels really make a huge difference for the looks!
And the speed!!
what a fking awesome video man!!!, cheers from Southern California . i just finished my bike ride i have a cervelo s5 did 48 miles today .
Excellent content! My Aeroad SLX (rim brake) also had fork issues.
- The aluminum rake shift inserts became loose one time, allowing the axle to fret against the carbon a bit. In Canyon's design, the axle only contacts the fork's carbon on the front side of the dropout. I'm a bit concerned the carbon contact points could wear more quickly than the aluminum inserts, increasing dependence on the the rake shift inserts for holding the wheel securely.
- My fork also had to be replaced because of a crease in the steerer. In my case, I had installed a new Giant 1-1/4 stem at the topmost position. I attribute the issue partly to the Giant stem design, which uses a vertical clamp, rather than a diagonal clamp like the Canyon V13. In addition, Canyon mandates its compression plug to be installed at a fixed depth in the steerer. Only the bottom of my Giant stem had support from the compression plug. On the replacement fork, I installed a full-depth compression plug instead of Canyon's small plug. I switched to a Ritchey WCS stem which has a diagonal (not vertical) clamp.
what model/year is your bike?

Hi Jasper, tnx for the video! can you please show a picture of the new front deraillure, the cable-angle now and how it works.
Google it. Ultegra 8000
Klasse video Jasper 🤙. Ben zelf erg content met mijn Aeroad 8.0 🙏
Excellent review.
Glad you liked it!
I was so excited to see you post this review being a huge Canyon fan. To me the incredible thing about the Aeroad is the current gen is five years old, yet it still looks so clean and modern. If anything, other bike brands have subsequently stolen its lines. Chapeau on a great review, Jasper!
Thabks
That is a sweet kit!!!! Have to order it now! Thanks, $$$ lol
Cheers bro!! Hope you have fun with it!!
Superb review. Jasper, you need to write books about bikes.
🤙🏻🤙🏻 I prefer video haha
Your bike reminds me of this storie.
This axe belonged to my great granddad. My granddad changed the head and my father changed the shaft😁
i immediately thought of triggers broom (it's not the same bike then is it!)

Jasper, I Wished you would get a new SE "Fast Ripper" like mine,,..And then make a 'video review" about your thoughts about it,....I'd watch it all the time,.....😎👊😎👊😎
I don't need a race bike, but I enjoy riding in a aggressive position and just want the Aeroad CF SL 7.0. I love the combination of the 105 groupset with a 58 mm deep section wheelset ... I'd would rather ride Ultegra, but the current 105 is so good and so reliable ... unbeatable.
I commute by bike every day and save so much money that I want to get a racing bike as a reward for the weekend. I only ride in the flat, always full throttle and am used to an aggressive riding position from my 2001 Trek 5500 OCLV 120.
I almost bought this same spec bike in 2016, but I had just purchased a new bike at the end of 2015 and didn’t want to spend this much on another new bike so soon. It was in the summer, while the Tour de France was on. They had a great deal, but I decided to wait. They didn’t have such good prices again after this so it was last year finally I decided to get a CF SL 7.0. It was around £2,400, which is good value compared to other aero bikes. I looked at a Trek Madone SL6 and it was £3,500. They are also quite a bit heavier, around 8.6kg. The Aeroad I went for also has the standard bars and stem, 58mm aero wheels, 105 group set and rim brakes. It’s a little lighter, around 7.8kg and a few hundred pounds less expensive than the disc brake version. It would have been nice to get Ultegra gears. I had a problem with the rear shifter, I think it was slightly bent when it arrived new, but have not replaced it as after having the bike for some time now I don’t think Canyon will cover this under warranty. It would probably be easier and cheaper if I just buy a new one and fit it myself. This is the main down side to buying a bike off the internet rather than having a shop where you can take it back if you are not happy. Other than that it’s a very fast bike at a good price.
Me, living in Denmark and at the start of my bicycling journey... the canyon aeroad looks really appealing, both in terms of it's initial setup and overall look :D I started on an old steel racer (full campagnolo/STI 16 gear) but quickly purchased a Cannondale six13 slice si2 (TT) which is now my Training bike, so i have the choice of converting that to 'normal' race bike or get a second bike (used)... CF 6.0 seems like what would suit me
Im waiting to see what Canyon has for The 2020 Aeroad. It should be release later this year.
Great video! I do not understand those comments, who do think now, that Canyon is a bad choice. You provided all of the information, why you changed parts (due to your preference) and the Mavic Cosmic due to insufficient braking performance. Parts got broken, as you are a hard core racer, who does not care to speed over cobbles. I ride the Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8.0 and my yearly average is around 2,500 km, which is going to rise.
Thabks man.
With 2,5k a year your bike wil go a looooong way👍🏻
Am I in the position to buy this bike? No
Will I ever be?
Propably not.
Did I still watch the entire video?
Hell yes.
Very well done, you managed to interpret your point in a very interesting and easily understandable way. Thanks!
I had 2 X broken forks on aeroad. Damage at lower race so not overtighten. Zero crash.
I like that bike bro....congrats...nice bike
I like the real life review. Thanks.
Love how you make things work. You don’t have 8 bikes for no obnoxious reason
💯 I use stuff and don’t replace when it’s not needed!
Thanks Jasper for the fantastic detailed long term review. I've had exactly the same bike for almost exactly the same time and share a lot of your thoughts. Still ride it as my main bike with the original cosmics and still love it. That's one thing you didn't really say in your video. Do you (still) like it, especially given the issues you've had? PS not only the same bike but my wife thinks I look like an uglier version of you 😀
But she loves You a lot right!? 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
It’s very useful to the guys who want to buy canyon bike or frame. The warranty of canyon is quiet good to me. In the video, you went to a lot of competition and travel and present the bike is strong and easy assembly. I think the service quality of canyon service house is not so well but I am in Taiwan so I do not need the service in the service house may be.
After all thank you for this sharing and it’s very useful.
Groet!
Terrific vid!
🙏
Man, after seeing this, and other videos about Canyon bikes, it's definitely off my list as of now. I've had a bianchi pista and cannondale caad 9-5, each with over a decade of riding. Never had to replace the frame or fork, even with the occasional spill or severe pothole.
Any carbon frame can crack 😅😜
@@jasperverkuijl Fair enough, that's why I'm content with my steel bike and aluminum bike. Maybe it'd be different if I were racing👍.
Good video 👍🏻
Well done 👍
Cool review, if you ever heard of an English tv show from the 80s “only fools and horses” your bike is like triggers brush, he’s had it years but changed all the parts!!
Almost yep
Great analogy
Hey Champ. What is your view on spoke count for rear wheels. Seeing that you a heavier rider with loads of power did you find 24 hole rear wheel good enough and not noodly or would 28 spoke rear wheels be a bit more stiff
