      Recognize the King. Then learn the kanji for Gold, which happens to be the first half of Silver. Bishop looks unique, Pawn will also take a bit of memorization. Knight has a recognizable symbol on the right (similar to King?) Lance looks unique. I can't remember promoted pieces yet though.

    • @cedricmichaud552
      @cedricmichaud552 Před rokem

      @@chaotickreg7024 Promoted pawns have a unique hiragana (simple symbols) promoted silver generals have a gold general symbols, the other minor promoted pieces like promoted lance and knight should also have unique symbols, major pieces like promoted rooks and bishops are bigger pieces in comparison and both also have unique symbols that make them not that hard to differenciate from one another, but yeah it takes a little more time than chess to know all these pieces. For me to find silver and gold, I realized that gold kanji looks like a house, and silver looks like a house and an apartment side by side, lance kanji looked like a lance or like a cannon from the sky, knight has a unique symbol that I wouldn't mistake with any other one, rook has a kanji that has almost the form of a square, and the bishop's kanji looks like a brick tower with a wooden rooftop to protect from arrows. I kind of made associations between the symbols and what it looked like to me.

    Hi, I want to ask, in 5:50, if black makes the trade without moving the King, and promote bishop instead of the rook, it will thread both white's king and rook. And black can not only kill the oppent's rook and put his rook back to the game and promote to dragon.

    wait. i'm just a few days into shogi. i get the tactics you're explaining by now but 5:07 why is it that you draw the conclusion of a loss because the enemies dragon is in danger? 7:19 same for the knight. it's only a defeat after the enemy got the king so why is it inevitable that you will get the king after you got one of those :?

    • @martinzhang5533

      Because it is what is called a outebisha, or fork in chess term, where the kaku is checkmating while threatening the ryuou, and as black need to move the king, white can basically take the ryuou for free and that is basically a hisha+kaku trade for gold and silver which is very very unfavorable.

      I am not an experienced player, but my thoughts: Dragon is very dangerous in white's camp threatening both the rook and the gold. White probably goes R6b to try to save them. I think black should have a way to force a win here, but it is hard for me to work out as well. N7d threatens mate, but white probably takes it with his gold and then defends. Instead S7a threatens mate but R6a gets out of the way. Maybe R+7a. If he blocks with R6a 'S62 wins the rook for free still attacking the king. So block the rook check with a pawn drop and then maybe just take the lance looking to drop it next move against the gold and rook. Probably there is something stronger I am too weak to understand but black is definitely on the attack.
