  • I embarked on my rug tufting journey in December 2021 - here we are a year later & I am going over some of the things I have learned thus far!
    There was so much I decided to break it into 2 videos 😅 this is part one where I go over my initial cost, my ongoing cost, materials I use, and some tips I have gathered along the way!
    In part two I am going to cover the more “business” side of things like what to charge, invoicing, order tracking, where to sell, and the lovely content creation that we must do on top of it all!
    As always here is my ongoing supply list that I keep to order from : docs.google.com/document/d/14...

      wait- he painted the rug BEFORE tufting it?? Like a pinters canvas? That makes sense as it would stay taught(sp?) but wouldnt it cut the canvas then? cuz there are no holes sort of?? So curious!! :-) this i gotta try!

    I just started and made my first rug ever 2 nights ago. I do wish I watched your video before I got started. I made my first one through trial and error with 2 4x4 pieces of cloth before I got the hang of these 😂 but it’s a really good idea to point out the fact that this is not a cheap one. It’s downplayed in a lot of the videos I watched and I didn’t realize this until I realized I was buying $600 worth of stuff and I didn’t even put any yarn through the canvas yet 😂 I love the transparency

      Thank you so much! I try to be as honest as possible with my personal experience - so many people rush to get into tufting thinking they will make bank quickly & its unfortunately rarely ever the case. If you end up posting your work let me know! I would love to show some support right back at you!

    Great video.- What I find NO ONE EVER talks about is YARN SIZE> Cheap VS better quality and Acrylic Vs Wool. Size 8 vs 4, worsted vs Not... arrrghhhhh If you have any info please share?

    • @tuftdayz
      @tuftdayz  Před rokem +2

      I agree! I have not personally used anything other than Acrylic & a Cotton blend, but am have been trying to get some wool that doesn't take forever to ship & test out how it holds up vs. Acrylic. I always use 4ply, double stranded in my machine. I have heard that Wool doesn't shed as much and has a little more durability - but again I have yet to test this out. Ill be sure to reply to this comment again when I have a video up on it!

    Hey I recently ordered my tufting gun. My problem is that it allways cuts the yarn and I have to rethread it. I use AK cut loop machine. Should I use yarn that is rolled on a cone? My problem is that I cant buy theese type of cone yarns at my local shops, only the regular ones. What should I do? :)

    • @tuftdayz
      @tuftdayz  Před rokem

      Although I have not used the AK II, in my experience the reason the yarn falls out is due to it being caught on something or having too much tension to go thru the machine. Is the machine actually cutting the yarn?

    During the last year have you found that it's more profitable to make multiple small rugs, or a larger one that takes more time ?

    • @tuftdayz
      @tuftdayz  Před rokem +2

      Love this question! I would say the larger rugs gain you more profit for sure - it takes more time. However they can be overwhelming at times due to the complexity or size. I definitely undercharged on my largest rug - I didn't expect to use so much yarn! LOL. Honestly regardless of size - customs are where you get the most money. I hope this helps!

    Hi, I was just wondering if you could please tell me about any copyright issues. I have seen lots of people making pokemon, disney etc rugs but didn't think you could do that and resell it as it is not your image (not you specifically🤣).
    Can you state it is not your image and still sell it or will it be a problem in places such as etsy etc.
    Thank you!!!

      I have only used it for about a month, so far so good! The only issue I have encountered is that the first couple of times I used it the trigger would get stuck, but I assume it was due to it being new? I haven't had the issue in recent times.

    How do people make the super shaggy rugs? Is that a machine or the yarn?

    • @tuftdayz
      @tuftdayz  Před 6 měsíci

      You would change the pile height - for the really shaggy ones there is a different tufting machine for those that has a very high pile height.

  • @joshdeskin6766
    @joshdeskin6766 Před 6 měsíci

    How do you estimate how much Yarn you need or have used?

    • @tuftdayz
      @tuftdayz  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I honestly have only been able to eyeball it due to experience & even then I sometimes still buy wayyy too much! LOL - If you want an accurate estimate you could just fill in your cloth left to right with two skeins of yarn (so you can tuft 2 threads simultaneously) & then measure the square footage you were able to fill once you ran out.
      However this may not always be super accurate for a beginner as the amount of yarn used will definitely vary as you learn, sometimes your loops may be looser ( covering more square footage with less yarn) or tighter ( opposite lol).
      I hope this helped! I will add this to my list of video topics to cover in the future because it is a great question!
