I learned my trade at a Honda Power Equipment dealership back in the 90’s. Back then, Honda was exclusively a premium product. When the GCV engines came out, and they started substituting them for GX series engines on some applications, we were all profoundly disappointed. It was a huge step backwards in quality. Looking back, I can now say that this was the beginning of Honda’s decline in the U.S. market. They went from making a full line of superb power equipment in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s - Lawn tractors, diesel tractors, tillers, generators, water pumps, mowers, string trimmers, and utility engines for countless construction equipment dealers, to now being barely present in the market. They also used to sell power equipment only through servicing dealers, which meant that you could be guaranteed that the people who sold you the device were factory trained to work on it. Now, you can buy Honda at every Home Depot and farm store that wants to sell it, with no after sales service provided. When Honda did this, it completely sabotaged the servicing dealers in legacy shops - Small privately owned dealerships could never compete with the buying power of a Home Depot - so the service network was completely destroyed by this fundamental change in Honda’s marketing strategy. Honda’s latest, and last mower offering is a sad end to what was once a great product line. Honda Power Equipment - going out with a whimper.

Yes, Honda double bogeyed on the 18th hole to destroy a great round. My local dealer just closed, they truly screwed their dealers who were faithful to them. Now we have throwaway technology and you can bet the battery powered will be crap. If you have even a remotely sizable lawn forget about electric because in a couple seasons the battery will last about half the time it used to and the batteries cost about as much as the mower. Been there with the ego.

"THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK", part of the reason is on some documents the print is on the front and back of the sheet. By leaving a blank page the continuity of thought is maintained by keeping the beginning of important information sections from starting on the back of a sheet. If the sheet is printed on one side only then most likely the same thought process is in play but all sheets of the notice are only printed on one side. Also, the blank sheet serves to separate the "Legal Speak" from the rest of the document/bulletin.

None of this is correct. Its because of how its printed on newspaper rolling dies & the Honda's logo being a separately owned copyrighted die from the company that owns the industrial printing press. Switching the dies from Logo to Content Text causes the space. Sometimes the die with the logo is large diameter so the "this page was left blank" is all on the same rolling die. - Detroit.

I first encountered "this page intentionally left blank" in old IBM technical manuals in the 60's.
In IBM's case, it was largely so that each chapter or major section of a manual showed up on the right hand side when the manual is laid out flat.
In other words, if a chapter had an odd number of pages, they'd add one to make the number even so that the next chapter started on the right side.
It certainly made a lot of sense if the manual was intended for three ring binders, and each chapter could be completely separated from any other, and could be detached if wanted.
The disclaimer would be so that no-one thought they had a misprinted manual.

That's interesting that you say that - I have a 2007 B&S 6.5 HP Intek engine on my walk behind self-propelled mower. Bought it new in August 2002 & by August 2024 it will be 22 years old. I get about 14.42 hours of use per summer on that mower. It is now up to 317.34 hours.
Bought a brand-new B&S engine that has a plastic cam gear in it that apparently explodes after a few years of service. Bought it for that sole reason & calculating the runtime hours to see how long it will run till it explodes. That engine is up to 42.6 hours of runtime, and it will be the four summer this year.
I still have my parents 1986 Murray push mower with a 3.5 HP B&S Quantum flathead engine. That mower exceeds 400 hours (hour meter quit years ago) & still runs well. Smokes a little at start-up. Runs full speed and sputters at idle. The pull rope starter is also messed up & I haven't been able to find a replacement. The blower house was design to be easily taken apart by the owner for easy cleaning of the cooling fins. The blade is held on with one bolt and a concave washer that acts like a clutch in the event you hit a stick or rock as not to damage the crankshaft. That is assuming you torque the bolt to proper specifications otherwise the blade will fall off.
Why go through all that trouble to replace the cam gear when the owner of that Honda is running the mower WITHOUT an air filter?
The blade stop function is pretty kool on that mower, but.....

Nice Honda mower - hate to see a lawn mower running without the air filter. In the case of this particular mower, the recall probably saved what was left of this mower's life. The longer that mower ran without the air filter, the shorter that mower's lifespan. The recall allowed a dialogue to occur between the mower shop and the owner to let the owner know about the importance of the air filter being in place and maybe even routine maintenance in general.

It was blowing more grass out the hole then out the side. I like the toro mowers because they are light in weight. And I have my Toro AWD mower for 10 years with no problem yet. Hard to believe someone would run a lawn mower without a filter. Lawn mowers work in extremely dirty conditions. Like Taryl said, the engine in that Honda walk behind will be short lived due to the owner not replacing the old filter with a new one. This particular owner should own an electric mower. Electric mowers are perfect for people who don't like to maintain their outdoor power equipment. I for one, enjoy maintaining my outdoor power equipment along with all my vehicles. No electric for me. By the way, the rechargeable batteries used are a recyclable nightmare. Not to mention China is the one profiting from all the batteries being made and sold worldwide. GM and Ford lost big time trying to appease a corrupt government's push to go electric. Vote wisely in November, the life of our nation and our freedom is in the balance. Like Taryl said, and I totally agree, rechargeable batteries are the enemy. Great video Taryl really enjoyed it.

I fail to understand why a 5hp or so small engine needs a compression release or why the failure of said compression release would be a “Safety Issue”. I’ve had plenty of small engine that didn’t have a compression release and they were still very easy to pull. These engines run on pump gas so there isn’t any way there running more then 11 or 12:1 compression ratios. Hell my sled doesn’t have a compression release, but I’ll admit that 800cc twin can be a bitch to pull when it’s -20F. I’ve broken several recoil assemblies on that sled as a result. But a small engine? Come on if you can’t pull it over without a compression release then you probably are too weak to even push the mower so it’s a moot point anyways!
