Outstanding video - brief, and a couple of great tips too for a clean and efficient oil change. Just picked up my HRN 216 yesterday. Thanks for making this video.
Ty! This might explain why adding even 10.5 oz of oil as Paul suggested was way over-filled. Initially, every time I added 12.5 oz according to Honda, it was WAY overfilled!
Great video! Straight and to the point. I also like the tip about unlocking the handle to make it easier to tip over. Do you happen to know what the amount of oil is between the low and high hash mark on the dipstick? Right now I’m just guessing how much to top up.
I had to get the HRN216 primarily because of the high torque. The dual blades for mulching is a nice upgrade too. My 5,000 sq. ft. front lawn is Zoysia, and my back 10,000 sq. ft. is a mix or cool season grass, but mostly weeds (will be Zoysia soon). This thing is a beast. I just changed my oil for the 2nd time (5 hour, then
Boy that is much easier than what I do. I would put the mower up on a set of axle stands and then use the drain plug underneath. Will have to try this way next time. Thanks Paul.
thanks for the tip. I've had a Honda push mower since 1997. 25 years old. Still runs great. Only issue I had was maybe in 2014 I had to replace the carb. Ethanol ruined it.
@alexandercameron645 Plugs are fine... the fuel goes bad and fouls my carburetor. When the off season comes, I hit the fuel shutoff and let my mower run until its out of fuel. Much simpler.. I've had to clean my carb jets twice already...
You are correct. But since it is so easy to do and takes very little oil, I am going to do it before storing it away for the winter no matter how many hours are on it. It just makes me feel better. Thanks for watching.
Oh, I did hear in the video that you were storing it away, I just thought you were doing regular maintenance on it during mowing season. I missed that part, sorry.
Thanks for the comment. I was thinking every 5 hours for an oil change seemed excessive, but Paul's point is good too. It's quick and easy to do, so I might just do it at the end of every season too.
Excellent question. The owners manual has a chart of what type of oil to use depending on the temperatures in your area. For me here in Canada it is 5-30. Thanks for watching.
Excellent question. Page 13 of my owners manual says 5-30 is good for my temperature range here in Canada. Also confirmed with my local Honda dealer. Thanks for watching.
I’ve had a Honda for 20 years. I learned something new. I used change the oil with the handle bars normal trying to twist it sideways changing the oil. This is very helpful.
This was by far the easiest way to empty the oil. I was seriously dreading this chore. You made it so easy. Thanks!
Smart man. Have all the good tips. Perfect concise video. Thanks!
Thanks for a clear and concise presentation! I appreciate it and will put it into practice!

Thanks Paul; love my Honda HRN 216; best lawn mower I ever had.
Excellent demonstration, thank you. Just got one of these mowers yesterday.
Thanks so much , outstanding instructional, informative video !! Very straight to the point with outstanding pointers !!
More oil will come out if you tilt it for a second/ third time, it seems to catch somewhere. Good video though.
Just changed my oil and you right! Got about 1/2 more oil out! T Y

Thanks for your presentation!!, it is clear and allows me to make the oil change.
Paul you sick bastard.
J/k, superb video and the best way to execute this mower’s oil change
super great video. Did exactly what you did. You made it a breeze in a short concise vid with excellent information. Thank You. Subbed.
Awesome video, just what I needed. Thanks dude.
Thanks for the walkthrough. Very informative!
Well done video. Clearly explained, right to the point. Thank you!

Thank you so much. You are a great teacher. God bless.

There is no drain plug on that mower.
Thank for this great video. So easy!
Great job, thanks so much Paul
Thanks a lot, this video helped so much
Very good video, very thorough.
Thanks - that was easy to follow.
Just what I needed!!!! Thanks
Lol I looked all over the underneath and sides for a drain plug. Thanx for the video
Great video Paul
Great tips! Thanks!

I have to run my mower dry every season to prevent mine from fouling... first issue within 10 months, ridiculous.
@@rma7921 fouling the plugs?

Glad we have a non ethanol gas station here lol
Excellent video!
Great job Made it easy
Paul, 5 hours for oil change is just on the first oil change on a new mower. After that it is every 50 hours according to the Manuel you referred to.

thanks sir! just did my oil change, also i noticed little bit more oil came out than what i put in before. is this because to heat oil expansion?
Good video. Thanks !
Well done, Paul. Thank you.
great tips!
Nice. New subscriber.
Thank you!
Any ideas on how to add wheel bearings to this model?
Hey Mate, use a funnel to fuel up the oil...
...it's mutch easer!
Thanks
How ml or oz exactly to put on GCV 170. Thanks!
How long should we cool the engine down before changing the oil? Thanks for sharing this!
5 minutes of run time will warm up the oil but not make the engine block too hot to touch, just don't touch the exhaust.
@@PaulPomerleau That worked out great. I just did the first oil change on my Honda mower after watching your video. Thank you again!
My pleasure. Enjoy.
Honda Site sez use 10-30 but you using 5-30, what is appropriate?, Both?
Excellent question. The owners manual has a chart of what type of oil to use depending on the temperatures in your area. For me here in Canada it is 5-30. Thanks for watching.
I just tip it on its side with it closed and then slowly open up the dran/fill spout.
Still riding your Victory ???
Yes, making a video on the evolution of the kick stand pad.
I thought the mower came with 12oz of 10-30
Excellent question. Page 13 of my owners manual says 5-30 is good for my temperature range here in Canada. Also confirmed with my local Honda dealer. Thanks for watching.

5 hours, ruh roh haha
Honda says the very first oil change should be at 5 hours. After that, every 50 hours.
@@PaulPomerleau oh phew I definitely did that, the break in. I’m on sustainability now haha
