- In "Skippy Stuck In The Past", Taryl goes over WHY this brand new sawmill won't start. What's going on with it?! See why in this here video. Prior to and after the fix, local yokel, Skippy, comes in for more than a spark plug this time and is looking for a new engine. He's looking for a price match but there's one problem with his pricing... it's from 1978! See how the whole hilarious scenario plays out here. And as always... There's Your Dinner!!

hi Taryl site doesnt work says,im not smokin anything either, just tryin get some those goofy b&s stickers, later Taryl!!
I like how Taryl doesn’t sugarcoat when he’s disgusted about something. Kinda reminds me of, well, me.
Congrats on making it to 100 years old Skippy!
Yea but he has the brain of a 96 year old so he is doing swell!
Because of your vids I now only use non ethanol fuel in all my yard equipment and boats. It's worth the extra cost not to have to clean carbs. Thanks Taryl! 👍👍
I use ethanol fuel but all my equipment has fuel valves and I shut off all my equipment with those valves. Been doing that for years without issue.
Same here!
I run ethanol in season, and go to non ethanol before off season.
@@kbakeritsallaboutnobody.5761 Because of stupid governments insisting on this nonsense we have to jump through hoops just to protect our equipment.
@@tonysheerness2427 HUGE FACTS!
I’ve got neighbors 2 actually that don’t take the little time in the fall to drain the gas and do a oil change in their lawn mowers every spring they need to call the lawn mower shack to have them pick it up and clean the carb and remove the crap gas. Boggles my brain. I use to help them and do it free for them. After the third time I said enough I told you how many times to winterize the mower showed them ! Nope, one neighbor leaves it out behind the shed.
I could scream!!! Lazy?! Theirs your 🥘 dinner!!!! Thanks Taryl I love this channel!!!!!🎊 ❤
"Small engines and cars are entirely different" Best quote in years.
People have no idea how to store equipment. 80% of the equipment I buy just needs a carb clean and new fuel.
Its 2023 there is no more Accountability...no one is at fault...its everything and everyone elses fault lol everyone is stunned
Shockingly, the manual tells them how to store it properly.
@@shawnbottom4769 Amazing 🤣 Iam pretty sure they don't read it
@@shawnbottom4769 well sadly we will live a time now that common sense is long gone to the point its now brain washed to not even exist anymore
People will 'store'' something for 10 years, and want it ready for the next minute. Old 2 stroke rotten gas. yeah everything is gummed up. Worse is what Tarryl has here. That and salt water sitting in the carb and everything. powdered crap the gelly, the salt looking. Just horrible.
Sure am glad I live in an area where non ethanol fuel is always available and have the room to store all my power equipment inside. Love your channel I do learn a lot.
For now.
But it is so pricy...
@@DavidMartin-ym2te
Yes it is about .50 cents a gallon higher but in my opinion it’s worth it. 🤷🏻♂️
I didn’t even know you could get non Ethanol gas. If i could get it I’d probably use it in my car sometimes. I could probably help burn out the shit ethanol leaves behind.
We lovin' us some Skippy this morning!! He's fricken hilarious...
Agree 100%!
The coating on the float bowl does do something! It protects the part from ambient/low levels of moisture while it’s sat new and unused on a shelf or in a box lol
I have learned so much about taking care of equipment.I have a new appreciation for taking care of things now and making it last.
love the video bro please keep up the good work and God bless you on your journey thru this hard time
I love how you pick up the phone when it’s raining and slam it back down… That is so funny… You are the best
From the appearance of the connection between the carburetor and air filter I'd be suspicious of an air leak at that point. Taryl probably fixed it when he replace the carb after cleaning. Ethanol fuel only works in cars because we burn it up so fast. Let your car sit around for months with ethanol fuel and you can have trouble too.
Sounds about right
Most carburetored cars got sold during the government cash for junk cars. I can pass urine thru a injector, a carb will vapor lock.
I appreciate how you take the extra step to sand-blast the float bowl even though you don't have to. That's a real small engine mechanic right there. Now there's your dinner🫵
Can't say when the last time was I had to buy any type of outdoor, or lawn equipment...people have a tool for two years, and don't take care of it... Almost every spring I find all kinds of stuff in our dumpsters at work...most almost brand new...with funked up carbatraters.
I am greatful. Thank you to the oblivious masses.
Watching you for years always learning Tks TARYL
I started to notice quite a few years back that small engines using the regular gas with ethanol started to have more starting problems after sitting for a few months, and having to replace the fuel lines a lot sooner than before. When the ethanol absorbs water, it becomes that whitish gel like fluid. When the machine sits for a while, then that whitish fluid dries up and leave a white powder and coats and plugs the internals of the carb. I have advised many people about using the ethanol free gas, which is usually 89 or 90 octane, which in my opinion helps the motor to run slightly cooler. But most people don't want to pay the extra cost for the E free gas, I guess they would rather pay for more repairs ang carb cleanings, and not having the machine start when they need it. You can pay it now, or you can pay a lot more later!
or like here your cant even get e free gas its all e10 if not e15 soon
@@jonsworld5307 ya don't have any around me that I know of in North Eastern Mass. Maybe some racing fuel?🤯😂
I like Sta-bils marine grade stabilizer. It is formulated to PR everything ent I ethanol fuels from destroying fiberglass tanks in boats. They were designed before ethanol fuel was a thing. It works well for storing fuel as well as preventing carb damage.
One thing I do on my small engines is to run them completely dry. I may mix up a small amount of fuel with a double dose of B14 chem tool then put in a bit off this in the tank and run it dry. This gives the carb a cleaning before storage.
In the spring I use a thankful of this double dose B14 for the first tank then go to regular fuel. If they start to run a bit off they get another tank or two of the B14 double dose fuel. This usually helps keep things running smoothly.
Occasionally I might need to do a carb clean on something but not near as often as I use to.
Once years back I had an old push lawn mower that when I was done with it I always just let it sit in the rain and weather but it always started near first try for way over a year. . Then I I got smart and put it under a lean to shelter with a roof and no walls, and I covered it up with a tarp. That spring it never started....No spark...magneto and flywheel covered in rust from compensation...LOL direct sun light outside kept it dry from warm sunlight....But under a tarp the water moisture built up and rusted everything
we learn a lot from this awesome guys and we MUST teach all the knowledge to the young generation , it is a must
It is the temperature cycles and humidity that causes the ethanol problems to occur so rapidly. Ethanol free is always preferred in engines that run infrequently, as well as stored inside.
do you mean outside?
I have this exact same sawmill and it works great. NEVER use ethanol gas in your small motors. It's like POISON to small engines. Always use non-ethanol gas with fuel stabilizer added, which eliminates many problems. Non-ethanol gas is not available at every gas station. I've found that gas stations near lakes where boat engines are used often sell non-ethanol gas. It costs about $1 more than regular gas, but it's worth it! Love all of the Taryl videos, keep up the good work!!
When I grew up, almost any guy would just fix that and start sawing. Part of that was because with the cars we drove you were either a mechanic or a pedestrian. Times have changed. Now an analog clock is a major roadblock.
Most young people can't read a clock unless it's digital. They don't know that Mickey's long arm points to the minutes, and his short arm points to the hours!
@@blowupbob1 About ten years ago , Two school kids approached me and asked me for the time. I told them it was "quarter of one".....they both looked at me and then at each other, totally bewildered. I then quickly said that it was 12:45 and they were happy !! I then showed them on my wristwatch how to tell time and explained the quarter and half hour, etc. to them. Congrats on the addition!
That protective coating did a great job 😂
dang taryl, you can fix anything. tanks for learning us how to do it all.
Thanks Taryl and company.
I learned the hard way about using ethanol gas on my lawn tractor and storage with it still in the carburetor. Fast forward, after cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor, new fuel line with a shut off valve to let the engine run use all the remaining gas out fuel bowl until it run out plus the use on non ethanol gas from now on with every piece of outside power equipment. We're good to go
Great video. i learned a long time ago. to drain all of the gas out of the gas tanks, fuel lines and carbs in any equipment that i am putting up for the season. like my ride on mower, weedwacker, brush saw, push lawn mower. i Realy wish that they sold the Non ethanol fuel in my area, because i would use it. love watching your videos. :)
If there's a small plane airport nearby, get your fuel there
Every time I have a problem with my mower, Taryl makes a video about the problem I had to fix. After the event!
He must have crystal balls.
Im addicted to watching your videos been binge watching for 3 days now, TY and im 60 yr old women but I work on stuff...
Good job, lots of good information about carb clean-out and put together.
Yet again It's Throttle to the rescue! Wonderful job Taryl .Like always
Love watching your show teryl
Hi taryl really appreciate your vids
You da man! Always a good lesson learned. Thanks!
Actually my experience is if you shut of the fuel and run the engine until it stalls, I have not had any problems with letting it set in the tank over the winter, also I usually put some fresh gas in when I go to restart.
I've been adding stabilizer to mine
@@michaelmaker8169 what ever works for you.
Great vid! Keep it up!
Always helpful videos Taryl 👍🏻 you should get a TV Show 😁
Between the gas shut off valve and carburetor drain screw you should be able to winterize that saw very easily. A little fuel stabilizer in the tank a nice cover over that motor and you would never have problems ethanol or not. People know fuel sucks for storage they just don’t care. If they cared they would be properly learning how to maintain there saw. I really liked the outdoor view for a change Taryl. Keep up the great work guys 👍.
You mean carbatrator.
Shut of the gas and run the engine out of gas empty the tank then store it

Should watch Taryls fuel stabilizer test . Mostly snake oil . I stopped using it .

I've seen others test gas Stableizers and they all are worthless, they may do some good I output I in and run the engine, but over long time, not good
You need a Taryl shirt that says "This shirt is made with a protective coating!" 😂
Another great video thanks for sharing
sad thing is a lot dealers leave new mowers etc outside in all kind of weather , i dont want to to buy new stuff left out side , enjoy your videos thanks
Taryl, I wish you would have told everyone to drain their equipment at the end of the season so that the ethanol isn't present to cause this problem. Also, I got a really good laugh about you using the mill to make lumber to build a log cabin.
Go back and watch the fuel experiment.
Thanks Taryl, I'm working on that same engine GX260 on air compressor carb was worst I ever seen, rocker arms are wonky too.
Central California watching
thank you for that information because I bought a portable sawmill last year and thats great information
I guess I got REALLY lucky then! I completely forgot about a new log splitter I left in the woods last November. Last week I went back out cut more wood, found the log splitter still there with a full tank of gas. I 'bout stinkered myself when the thing fired right up and ran without a problem, didn't even get water in the hydraulic oil!
@13:33 God, scraping with those dental tools makes my teeth hurt!
😂😂😂
Hey Taryl thanks for the great video. Good to see Skip skipping around the cost issue. My question is why can’t manufacturers use molded plastic carb bowls like the old lawnboys? Wouldn’t help in this situation but carbs, without integrated fuel shutoff valves,it might help with the rust and goo that grows there? Mr. Magoo
Those dental tool scratching metal sounds are brutal. ☠️
I learned my lesson back in the 80s! I didn't burn up my chain saw, but it was close! I've gotten a lot of gas powered mowers, power washers, and weedeaters cheap or free!
I learned alot from you. Thank you!
That was great maybe now he will cover at least the motor if it’s going to be left outside all the time. 👍👍👍
I learned years ago from a small equipment repair buddy of mine to avoid ethanol gas - it is far cheaper to buy ethanol free gas than to spend precious time pulling carbs etc - He pointed to 200 odd machines and said "my job is so boring, all I do is drain tanks all day long, and clean carbs, it's rare when I actually have to repair/replace anything"
Great stuff
Terrell I see this all the time on carburetors on my small engines I did an experiment a couple years ago on 2 of my pieces of equipment that we're problematic with the powdered aluminum in the inside of the bowls in the small parts I airbrushed with gas tank liner made a world of difference
there went the hamms budget 😆 love your videos guys you make it fun to watch helps my adhd
Unfortunately many people no longer have an option for ethanol free gasoline, Ontario Canada pretty much phased it out in 2024 and i suspect the long line of curbside equipment pickups will be in full swing later this year ramping up to a avalanche of equipment in 2025. Many small engine equipment is not worth repairing due to the low cost such as lawnmowers, so looking forward to making a few dollars in picking them up and making them breathe new life. We already know fuel additives are junk by Taryl’s long term 18 month testing video’s, so shutting down equipment properly is paramount to keeping small engines running after the off season. Cheers.
Great video!
Nice Job 👍
The ending was funny 😂
Great Stuff !
tanks for sharing...
I try to shut the fuel off and run the carb dry before storing after each use/job on small engines, is that the right way? Thanks for the tips and wisdom Taryl.
Oh, and I am a subscriber I watch it all the time
For years I have been using " Rec Fuel" non ethanol fuel in my small engines, and my 4 wheelers and Garden Tractors. Had the fuel lines eaten up on my Stihl 026 several times and the dealer told me to use the rec fuel. I don't use it in my outboard motors .
Good job tayral
Looks like the new addition is well under way.
i use a little HEET in my gas all the time it cleared up a Nickki 6 😁 carburetor that was surging the carburetor is running perfect it always keeps my carburetor's running good... heet in the RED bottle 😎😎
I honestly believe that the fuel is being shipped with the water pre installed 😂. I’ve been going to the local FPO airport and buying aviation gas for my generators and equipment that get stored longer than a couple of months
Wow, Wow, Wow!!!
Very nice video! Thanks to the author for the great content. Everything is informative and interesting. Good luck)
always good videos brother
Great vid mate
This is a pretty common occurrence here in Southern Minnesota with seed tenders and liquid fertilizer trailers. They get run two to three weeks a year with 87/ethanol blend in them and then get parked for the season after that. The following spring the customer is mad because their engine won't start and they can't plant corn or soybeans because of typically, a Honda GX series engine with bad gas in it won't start.
Some people have 2 learn the hard way,
Mice job Taryl 👍🏻

Taryl I love your videos I've been watching them for a couple years now I am a subscriber I was just curious do you wear your video wig and teeth every day or only when you're filming I've only got a glimpse of you one time when your wig fell off I'm sure you don't wear it all the time but I figured I'd ask keep up the great work and God bless
My dad in the 60 s helped his brother inlaw in his mower shop and he talked about mowers would come in the shop with old gas in the 80s I helped a friend in his mower shower old gas looked like ice tea but nothing like today
Almost every engine I work on has carb problems because of this very thing.. cheap gas left too long and water. Also people actually think oil does not need to be changed.
I only use non ethanol fuel in my push mowers (Briggs flat heads). but run ethanol fuel on, and properly winterise, my ride on. It has a decent Honda 400 engine and I baby that unit. Being aware that ethanol fuels are short term fuels in small engines is half the battle. Common sense and a few tools is the other half.
Yes Honda engines are a little more resilient when it comes to ethanol, not much, but just enough to put them far out front of Briggs, etc. IDK why these other manufacturers don't wake up but I guess that's what keeps their prices lower 😂🤣🤣😭
Non ethanol fuel is pretty hard to find and expensive in Canada so I only get enough fuel for a short time and run all my machines dry until I use them again.
Had the same problem. Bought an Identical carb for 17 dollars with free shipping. She runs like new now.
Good job mate ..
Water in the gas mostly comes from condensation in humid conditions. We sump drain the fuel in the planes every time we fly they get some water in them even overnight. Put an ounce or 2 per gallon of Seafoam into the fuel you will never gelling issues . It is also good for cleaning out dirty gas tanks. Put it in your car gas tank it works better than fuel injector cleaner as well.
I don't need no saw mill! My wife Saw's wood all night long! But she says she don't Snore! Ha Ha! Hey Taryl, use that Gas tank liner/repair/coating, to give your float bowl that new coated float bowl smell! Ha Ha! That will show all those coated float bowl guys a thing or two...
i love your channel, i seen some videos 3x over, but i like to see you work on a Koehler magnum 18 hp twin, vertical shaft or on some of the bigger john deere of today with the power steering and hydra lift like in the x500 and x700 series,

I live down south so my mowers don’t sit long enough for the fuel to go bad. I only use non ethanol fuel in my 2 stroke machinery.

I hang the phone up like that at work too 😂
I have a question I have a Wright stander I am new to this and I am going to change the blades and I am confused because the ones from the manufacturer say they are thicker than the Oregon brand ones which do you recommend I buy thanks
I have been using Amsoil 100 :1in all of my equipment for years 1988 in everything even 4 stroke engines there in storeage for over a year with ethanol fuel i have never had any issues with water or plug carbs try it its the best fuel additive out there
I can't understand why people use regular pump gas when it's been told over & over it's not for carburetors.
And gas with ethanol attracts moisture, it will suck the moisture out of the air.
Like your show
Taryl, I work PT at Tractor Supply building outdoor equipment & another HUGE problem I see is people buying the pre-mixed 2-cycle gas & straight 4-cycle gas that we sell in the gallon cans. That stuff is nothing but crap & does more damage than good.
excellent people to buy from fast responce on orders thank you taryl
@official_TarylfixesAll.
if all companies in united states handled business the way Taryl does this country would be better off
should you use fogging oil before you store your small engine equipment?
I know people that swear by it but keep in mind it still does nothing to help the fuel so regardless its best to use non ethanol or shut off the valve when you're done and run that stuff out the carb
I do that with outboard.
