Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
I'm a 50+ man and will still happily watch this film any day of the week. Just love it.
Yup I'm 41 and will always adore this film, it's perfection.
You’re a person of taste and refinement
Can you come read it to me again tomorrow?
@@matthewzeller5026 As you wish... that line gets us EVERY time!!!
Turning 50 in two months. I'm with ya! "As you wish" tears me up EVERY SINGLE TIME.😢
Mandy Patinkin lost his father to cancer. When he was using the line "you killed my father" he was speaking directly to cancer about his own father. I think it's why his lines hit so hard for us the viewer. Love the reaction. X
"I want my father back - you son of a bitch!" could have so easily been cheesy. Except it lands just right.
When he kills the six finger man and says he wants his father back, he drops his accent and speaks the line in his own voice.
I was thinking while rewatching that I really connected with Inigo and the -pain- in his voice when he thought the six fingered man was escaping. It felt so real.
I heard that the actor who played the six-fingered man was legitimately scared during that final fight scene because Mandy wasn't just acting; he actually was channeling all of the anger and hatred he felt toward the cancer that killed his father into his performance - and also it was cathartic for Mandy, so after it was over he felt as though he really had triumphed over that cancer and avenged his father.
This film never gets old, even after nearly 35 years. The grandfather telling his grandson that he loves him (the "as you wish") at the end gets me every time. If only more movies had this much charm.
100% agree. I tear up at that last "As you wish." every time.
@@thatpatrickguy3446 One of the endings they filmed was when the grandfather closes the book and says "the end", he looks up and the kid has fallen asleep. He leans over, kisses the kid on the forehead and whispers "as you wish". Which is really great too, but part of the quirky humor of the film is the banter between the kid and the grandfather, and each one of them telling the other than they love them in their own way...the kid asking the grandfather to come over and read it again, and the grandfather saying "as you wish"...is just too perfect.
@@thatpatrickguy3446 Same! EVERY TIME!!!
Sad part is this movie was released two years after I was born, which meant I couldn't see it in theaters or VHS at the time.
But now, I've seen it on DVD more times than one could count. Still, I hope Princess Bride gets a chance to be played in theaters again
The unsung hero of the movie is the grandfather, played by Peter Falk. RIP Columbo.
Just one more thing.
"Get back witch"
"I'm not a witch I'm your wife"
every dang time I laugh so hard I fall off my chair
You've never had it so good!
Peter Cook as the priest...hysterical😂😂😂
@@sean---the-other-one And wove...twuuue wove😂
"That was so sweet you guys, aw, Humperdinck wasn't terrible"
(3 seconds later while Humperdinck talks about murdering Buttercup)
"..."
😂🤣
Fun fact; when I was about 14, I went to my local arena, called "Boston Garden" here in Massachusetts. I went to watch the wrestling matches. Well, we went early, and met alot of the wrestlers as they were arriving. One of which was non other than, Andre the giant. Let me tell ya, in person he was indeed a GIANT! He was massive!! I shook his hand, and mine completely disappeared inside his. 😲
He was so nice, talked with my brother and I for a few minutes, signed autographs etc...a day I'll never forget! May he rest in peace 😇
❤
That's exactly how I always react to Inigo's "I want my father back" line. Chokes me up EVERY TIME.
The sweet surprise at the end of the movie is the love between the boy and his grandfather.
“As you wish.”
Mandy Patinkin tells a story about Andre the Giant when a woman on set asked him what he liked most about the shoot and his answer to her was “nobody looks at me here” in a life where he was always a spectacle on the set of the movie he was just one of the guys.
I heard Rob Reiner had to walk away from the set when filming Billy Crystal because he couldn't stop laughing.
According to Cary Elwes, not only is that true, but they had to replace Cary with a dummy for much of that because he couldn't stop laughing.
I heard that Reiner hurt himself trying to not laugh.
@@celiashen5490 Actually, it was Mandy. he bruised a rib from trying not to laugh!
@@Ponchoman13 XD
@@Ponchoman13 Ha! :D I stand corrected.
Billy Crystal is such a threat to his co-workers' poker faces.
Cary Elwes' "as you wish" line is thought of so much when it comes to this film, but without the Peter Falk version/line at the end, this movie doesn't become iconic. I saw this in the theater when it came out, and I can tell you when Falk said it at the end it brought the house down. It was everything.
My friends and I used to quote from this movie all the time. Our favorite was "I do not think that word means what you think it means." But the best usage I ever heard was from a story an online friend told me a few years ago. When the "Occupy Wall Street" protests were going on, her college student son told her that he and his friends had decided to go out and join the protesters. As they were leaving, she called out to them "Have fun storming the castle!" 😂
🤣🤣 that is so cute! My favorite is
Westley:
"My brains, his steel, and your strength against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmmm?"
Of all the lines, "Inconceivable" gets used the most, and "As You Wish", but the one I still use the most is "Everybody, Move!!!"
Are you seven foot five by any chance? LOL
Such a perfect film. Peter Falk's "As you wish" gets me everytime.
There are plenty of reaction videos to The Princess Bride. But if the person doesn’t get choked up when the grandfather (Peter Falk) says “As you wish” at the end I consider them lacking in real human empathy and would never watch their videos again. Congratulations you passed. I cry at that line too.
“No more rhyming, I mean it!”
Anybody want a peanut?
@@nancyandrews398 GYAAHH !!
I love how you followed Inigo Montoya's story. His kindness to Fezik, swearing upon his father's soul, his backstory, his initial duel, back to drinking, calling upon his father to guide him though his sword. She cried during the final duel. Did you see the quivering lips when Count Rogan was in his power. Such a beautiful story. I love your empathy, K.S.O.
Yes! Bless whoever asked for this one. It's a joy. I can't wait for it.
I really didn't think I'd like this movie when I watched it for the first time. I was wrong. It's been one of my favorites for more than thirty years.
Oh my god, what? You're going to LOVE this movie, I'm calling it right now.
Omg im sick in bed wondering what to do and i Just noticed this was about to premeire. So perfect.
Have someone come over and read it to you. It's a great book too.
Hope you enjoyed it!
This and Lady Hawk were 2 of my favourite fantasy films as a child.
I remember Lady Hawk but for me it was this and Willow
@@jemac42 All great movies... In a similar vein: Legend
@@jemac42 Yes Ladyhawk and Willow!
One of the most quotable movies EVER! ❤️🤣
Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something. 🤣
I actually saw on a Top 10 list somewhere that it is THE most quoted movie of all time.
My most favourite film ever in the world😍😍😍
Me too. Perfect movie.
The reaction was amazing. Inigo is indeed the show stealer but it's amazing. And the ending...As you wish. I understand your pain talking about your grandparent bcs i miss my grandfather every single day and it's been 23 years since his death.
There is a book entitled As You Wish about the making of this film. It was written by Cary Elwes who starred in it.
This is one of the greatest movies ever made
Chris Sarandon and Susan were married at one time and she just kept his name afterwards as she started to get really famous while still having his name.
Always a pleasure to see someone fall in love with a fantastic movie like this one. Enjoy re-watching it for years to come.
The cast has some sweet stories about working with Andre the Giant. Treat yourself and search them out.
The surviving cast of this movie made a charity read-along at the anniversary of the film during quarantine (with a few guest stars filling in for those who were no longer with us). At the end, Carl Reiner (before his recent passing) was the grandfather, Rob Reiner (his son and the director of the film) was the kid. "As you wish" hit extra hard.
"I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!"
I still hear that on the reg
My favorite line in this movie is the very last one when the grandfather says to the grandson, "As you wish."
One of the reasons Mandy Patinkin performance was so good was that he had just lost his father during the filming, and he was able to channel That Emotion into his character. Also under the Giants back was hurting so bad at this point that they had to put harnesses to help distribute the weight on him during the scenes where he was caring people.
Read the book. Later, saw the movie in the cinema. Have watched it many times since then. But for some reason it was not until recently that I realized that, when the grandfather told the grandson, "As you wish," he was saying "I love you." Just now found tears in my eyes again from that final line.
Peter Falk as the Grandfather is great, incredible actor. I have the entire "Columbo" series on DVD, I watch them over and over.
Seems fitting that Honest Trailers dubbed him "the world's grampiest grandpa"
The Viccini death is so wonderfully campy/ hammy that I think EVERYONE who sees it laughs (or at least smiles)!
So perfectly done!
The first Act of the movie where DPR defeats all 3 apparent villains is written so beautifully as a textbook hero's journey. At first you see him besting all 3 as a team as his ship catches them and he ascends the cliff on his own, then in the individual portions it isn't enough that he defeats them by being a better man, but that he beats them at their own expertise. Inigo isn't just being a better swordsman but a better Trickster, using the same skill set and ruse by starting out left handed even though there is no reason for him to do so. Then against the Strongman it is using his direct physical strength no win, and not other physical attributes for example endurance or speed, and finally against the Mastermind archetype who calls the Ancient Greek scholars morons he uses Mithridatism to develop immunity, which like a true mastermind involves preparing for eventualities years in advance.
Cary Elwes wrote a really good book about the making of the film, including incidents and accidents along the route. It's a brilliant read, or listen.
One of the greatest movies ever !!
Love The Princess Bride. Such a great, and funny movie
When they're talking about the fencing techniques--Benetti's Defense, Capafero, Agrippa, they're actually using those techniques in the fight. This is the greatest swordfight in movie history.
I adore this film!
Soundtrack by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits). Beautiful music to go with a classic movie. This is one of 9 movie soundtracks Mark has composed for thus far.
Oh yes you have to keep watching through the credits to listen to the song ☺️
@@kellyfairbairn9333 although that song wasn't written by Mark Knopler, who does play guitar on it, but the song's singer Willy DeVille.
Knopfler recommended it to Rob Reiner after producing and playing guitar on DeVille's Miracle album which featured the track. Guy Fletcher, Dire Strait's keyboard player who remained a member of Knopfler's band when he went solo, also plays on the song. In fact, Knopfler and Fletcher are the only two musicians credited for the entire film score!
It's amazing to realise that Storybook Love wasn't written specially for the film, it fits so perfectly. It got an Academy Award nomination too. (It lost out to (I've Had) The Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing.)
That's the way you do it.
Yay!! One of my all time FAVOURITE film - funny, sad, shocking, exciting all rolled in to one! Although, as much as I love your reaction to the film, my favourite bit has to be your reaction to Prince Humperdink's ask to be thought of as 2nd best and then almost immediately, you find out just how MUCH of a louse he really is!! Priceless ^*^
lol.... he fooled me. omggg
As much as I love everything (everything!) about this movie, I have to admit that long before the end I've stopped worrying about the lovers and instead am utterly focused on Inigo getting his revenge.
His victory moved me the most...
A wonderful film, it takes me back to seeing it back in the eighties, walking home with friends, saying "Hello, my name is......." over and over again. While doing the sword action of course.
People still write "Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" on "Hello, My Name Is" tags. I laugh when I see that.
32:41 Fun Fact: Mandy Patinkin (the actor for Inigo Montoya), having just lost his own father to cancer, pulled all his anger from that into this scene to the point of actually scaring Christopher Guest (the actor for Count Rugen). xD
Raised my kids and my granddaughter on this movie. Interesting Pink's video of her new song with her daughter reminds me of the beginning of this movie. Another favorite was Labyrinth with David Bowie. One both the adults and kids could watch together.
My all time favorite movie. I got to meet Cary Elwes a few years ago at a signing for his book about his time on this movie set. It’s a good read.
Re the Bishops speech impediment reminding you of Biggus Dickus, Peter Cook was a major influence on the members of Monty Python. Several of them got their start in comedy on shows written and performed by Peter Cook.
The original Yorkshire Men ("Who would have thought, fifty years ago, we'd all be sitting here drinking Chateau de Chasselaix...") sketch was with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and IIRC John Cleese and Graham Chapman.
Some friends and I watched this movie, and Labyrinth on the same day. Both great movies!
Just reached the end of your reaction, and I feel your pain. My grandfather was my role model and best friend, and he died suddenly 32 years ago. He was cremated on my birthday, and I haven´t celebrated it since. That was the day I lost half of my heart.
KSO , I do have one for you that's a MUST watch !!! It's the 1980 " AIRPLANE " 🛫😏👌👌👌👌
I cry EVERY time I see that last scene. It is a perfect ending for a perfect movie. You got exactly the feeling I get seeing that last scene. But everything about this movie is almost perfect and I love that even 30 years later, it still is able to touch and move people. THAT is a good movie!
Chris Sarandon plays a great villain. Check him out in Fright Night (1985).
I’ve probably seen this movie over 1000 times, no joke!! It’s so good that I never get tired of it. It’s like Steel Magnolias, if it’s on you have to watch it no matter what.
It's a delight to watch you react to "The Princess Bride." When Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin) saw the movie for the first time at the premier, he was so moved that he started crying at the end, just like you. His wife was sitting next to him and she asked why he was crying. He told her that every actor dreams about being in a special timeless movie that will be loved by everyone in any era, but most never get the chance. Until he saw the completed movie, he hadn't realized that "The Princess Bride" was such a movie and he realized that he had played the role of a lifetime. Like you, he was so happy he cried.
To the person who thumb-downed this video - we can't be friends anymore.
Yup. Two kinds of people in the world: those who love The Princess Bride, and those I don't associate with.
This is Andre's greatest role
I appreciate that you took some time with this because often times youtube reviews/reactions are just too short
There are lots of interesting clips on CZcams of the cast members telling Andre stories.
I love all the bright colors, they seem to perfectly match your bright and beautiful personality! Glad you enjoyed this movie, it’s just the best! 😄
Thank you so much!!
There's about a zillion things I could talk about regarding the differences between the book and the movie, but I'll just mention this for now: the line "life is pain, anyone who tells you differently is selling something", spoken by Westley while he was still in his Dread Pirate Roberts persona, in the book it came from Fezzik's back story, and it was Fezzik's parents who said it to him.
One of my all time favorites. Should be required viewing for everyone. Whenever I remember, when one of my son's asks for something, I say "As you wish". Oh and I've watched this dozens of times, and still cry at the same times you did. I completely enjoyed your reaction.
Your reactions are a joy to watch. :) two facts: 1. Mandy Patemkin's father died during filming, that's why his delivery of "I want my father back you S.O.B." was so authentic. 2. Andre's back hurt him so much he could not lift anything, almost, so when you see him fight they used wires and he lift everyone off the cliff it was not him but a stunt double from the back.
another great reaction.. i've watched your channel for so so long.. and i know i don't know you personally... but you do show how special you are every week.. i've only met a few good people along the way.. and you seem very much like them
Buttercup is Robin Wright, she was also Jenny in Forrest Gump. The grandfather is Peter Falk, best known for playing 'Columbo'. Miracle Max is Billy Crystal.
This is the perfect movie to watch when you are sick and off school or work.
When the grandfather says 'as you wish' he also means 'I love you'.
During the filming of this movie, Mandy Patinkin's father had recently died from cancer, so some of Inigo's moments are very personal.
One of the best movies ever. Anyone of any age can watch this and be entertained.
"As you wish"
One of our first dates back in 1987 with the woman who became my Princess Bride less than a year later. was to watch this film on the big screen (actually the biggest screen in town at the time). Needless to say, our favorite film. :-)
My favorite part is when the Prince identified the Iocaine Powder even though it is supposed to be odorless.
I actually never noticed that 😳😂
+Exactly. He identified it purely because he COULDN'T smell anything.
Also he hired Vizzini in the first place.
When the grandpa says as you wish he was saying I love you 🙂
I got that dark, that's why I cried
I happen have read the book BEFORE seeing the movie. It was gratifying to see the movie hold so closely to the book. It's almost like reading a screenplay.
Well, they were written by the same person, so that helps in maintaining integrity.
And William Goldman has some other great movies to his credit. But this one (and maybe Butch Cassidy) are the ones for which he will be remembered.
Cary Elwes is such a beautiful man I swear. Hes still a very good looking man now!
He’s my birthday twin, October 26th.
My next vote is for a John Hughes “brat pack” film (a play on rat pack from the 50s). Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, (also Some Kind of Wonderful, Ferris Buehler)... so, so good. Iconic for those of us growing up in the 80s. We all quote lines from these movies constantly. Just an idea. ❤️
Great choices, John Hughes movies are the greatest. I also love one of his less popular one “She’s Having a Baby. “
@@iChristyD yes! Love “She’s Having a Baby!” 😊
One of the best movies ever made.
I watch it about once a month, and although I can quote nearly every line, I am always entertained. Once in a generation casting success, brilliant writing/timing- timeless masterpiece.
The growls of the ROUS sound human because they were made by Rob Reiner in a sound studio.
Billy Crystal (Miracle Max) was in a movie I know you will love, When Harry Met Sally. He's a very funny comedian and did a yearly charity comedy show with Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg. They were all really good friends. Mandy Patinkin was in the first few seasons of Criminal Minds and then went to Homeland.
Cary Elwey was so beautiful back then. I had such a crush when I first watched this movie lol.
Perfect movie for your loving heart. I knew the tears would flow, as mine always do too.
(BTW, 'How to Train your Dragon' is much better than you might think it is.)
I love this movie... one of my all time favorites... I could watch it over and over and never tire of it. A true classic... and a delight to watch every time... and so fun to see your reaction!... You are always so sincere and so beautiful.

Wow, thank you!
The Princess Bride! Lady K is going to love this!😊

Andre himself loved making this movie, because the cast and crew didn't treat him like "The Eighth Wonder of the World." They treated him like he was simply another member of the cast. He disliked being different from everyone else.
Such a fun movie, good time's!
