"She was murdered. And you think I did it...."
    (Pause. Runs away.)
"Did he...just throw my cat out the window?"
    "No...I don't think so..."
LMAO! That took me a minute too. I laugh so fucking hard in the theatre at that line though, lol!
    "Where's "Boy With Apple"?"
"None of your goddamn business!" LOL!

39:23 I think with M. Gustav and the various rich old ladies it was also a case of them knowing it was something of an illusion but they came back to the hotel because of that illusion - he made them feel cared for, happy, attractive and because he paid attention to those little details. Even if it is an act, he made them feel loved

That painting he hangs in the place of ‘boy with apple’ is a Klimt. It’s an in joke because Klimt was a very naughty man but also a very valued artist.

I think you’d like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel….about elderly British folks who go to India to live out their retirement years….very funny, heartfelt, and endearing.

And of course The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel afterwards.
And the famous 30s movie simply titled 'Grand Hotel'

I haven't read enough of Stefan Zweigs work to know if there was a deliberate adaptation of his books, but I've read enough to know that you have to read his works to see how they inspired this movie - it's something about his writing that feels the same here even if it wasn't generally as funny as this movie was (this movie was like a combination of 30s comedies and Stefan Zweig's works). And in half the ones I've read there's always a case of a story being told, generally a story in a story.

After you watch this movie, you should watch schindlers list, both films feature the same actor Ralph Fiennes, and you can get a real feel for his acting range, he is a real star performer

If they had known how extremely valuable an Egon Schiele painting was about to become later on, they wouldn't have replaced this "Boy with an apple" painting by this on by any means and Dimitri would never had destroyed it. But so a piece of art, which today would be worth probably 20 million euros/dollars or even more, was smashed in a second.
Yes, I know it's a movie but this idea is just hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣

Crossed keys is the symbol of concierges - the guys who can get you the best seats at restaurants and seats at theatres. So it’s a secret society of concierges - guys who can organise anything.
This is a Wes Anderson movie and they all have his stamp on them. The Darjeeling limited is a similar style but after this one my favourite is Isle of Dogs, then The Darjeeling Limited. Wes Anderson is hugely loved by actors and he always puts lots of the same famous actors in his movies, even in small roles. That’s Tilda Swinton playing the countess.

This film actually has a lot of metaphors about the second world war and the fall of the old European values, or the “enchanting old ruin”, as the film said. The “ZZ” symbol used by the army in the film is very similar to the “SS” and lightning symbol that Nazi used. The two times they encountered soilders in the train could be about the first and the second world war. In the first time, they were able to get out of the trouble because of Gustav’s acquaintance, which shows humanity and grace still remains even in war time, while the second time they were in the train the death squad murdered Gustav, which can be seen as about the cruelty and the destruction of humanity in the second world war

Was wonderful seeing your reaction to this. You clearly saw the compassion and heart in this movie, as evidenced by the observations you made after watching. I was also tickled to see how much the humor resonated with you. I think this is easily the best work by Wes Anderson in just about every aspect, and the performance from Ralph Fiennes is somehow a career highlight in a career that only contains highlights.
