Hi Lou again we had that car a blue with black interior loved it my mom and dad did not have the money to buy the 61 T-Bird for sale in 1970 but my grandmother gave us $300 to buy the 61 T-Bird and we ran it into the ground it was a beautiful car just like this one and across the street from us was a 1061 T-bird also great car thanks for showing
Hi Andrew, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Family's blue car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I love these early 60s T-Birds. One of the coolest cars on the road those years.
Glad you "love" this one :-)
My brother had a 62 T bird. White with black interior. Nice to see one out here. Good memories.
Hi Chas, Glad to read this one brings back good memories of your Brothers car :-) Lou
Beautiful! I just watched about five of your Thunderbird videos and all had PW and AC! It makes me cry when I see beautiful cats that don't have both. Great interview. You have a great rapport with these owners. I feel like I know where I am at when I hear, "Lets pop the trunk!" and "Wow, that's a big door!" ;)
Happy to read you're enjoying the episodes with me :-)
Yes we had the 390 4 Barrel in that blue and black 61 T-Bird and steering wheel slid to the right power brakes all of that door handle with the space beneath the trim with the button it was a great riding car we had the original hubcaps all with this gentleman has we had and I wish I had it again
Hi Andrew, Happy to read you remember that car well :-) Lou
I love this year.

I have an identical t-bird with AC and AM radio. I just picked mine up and it needs quite a bit of work.
Hi sox45e Gaming, Glad to read you have a cool car like this one too :-) Hope it comes out exactly how you want it, Lou
The windshield, cowl, and headlight bezel of the 1961 Thunderbird is shared with the 1961 Lincoln Continental. The windshield and cowl are expensive components to engineer so that was a cost saving for FoMoCo. The first prototype of the 1961 Thunderbird had the slab sides and front end styling that instead was used on the Lincoln Continental. Robert McNamara wanted to discontinue the Lincoln brand but was persuaded by the cost savings of building two somewhat similar cars. This example would benefit if that non stock rub strip was removed from the side of the car. Also, the original factory look was wide band whitewalls which are readily available from Coker Tire.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Appreciate the details.
my sister's boy friend had a red tbird convertible, that was quite a car
+kramden Good times, good times, Lou
I love it.
Hi ew1usnr, Glad you "love it" :-) Lou
....this is a copy of my grandparents first Thunderbird (hard to find color combo in good condition). Gramps & grams went on to purchase a 67', and then a 73'. When it came time to replace the 73' they switched to a new 79' Lincoln Mark V. When they both passed away in 2012 I found the original window sticker and the spare set of keys to every car they ever owned starting with a 53' Ford. Gramps also had the dealer showroom brochure to each of them. Don't know why he didn't pass along the spare keys to the people he would sell the car to as he never traded them in to a dealer. So now I have a bag of vintage car keys along with the associated window stickers and brochures. Their last car was a 2003 Lincoln Town Car which I now have in storage. I acquired it from their estate with 14,000 miles on it. The rear bumper needs to be resprayed from damage when gramps pulled gram's wheelchair out of the trunk but otherwise looks new. Still has the original Michelin tires on it and holding air. Surprised the owner of this 61' didn't replaced the severely cracked dash pad given the level of detail on the rest of the car.
Sounds like your Grand Parents had some wonderful cars and good memories RJ Miller :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
.Lou, great videos that you post! ....gramps built their home so everything from my childhood was still in the house....including a lot of documents from the Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser they bought new in 67'. The snowmobiles, trailer, snow suites, etc. were also still in the garage (new from 67' also). Gramps did well for himself and grams...1967 must have been a really, really good year! He never got rid of anything. After installing new batteries & spark plugs both snowmobiles started up after sitting for at least 40 years. I sold the whole set (two vintage snowmobiles, trailer, & 2 snowsuits that were at least 40 years old but still looked new). I only wish it had been the 1961 Thunderbird that was still sitting in the garage! Oh well....I can dream... especially when guys like you post great material for trips down memory lane!
My pleasure :-) I felt I wanted to leave a legacy of the great cars I've seen and share them with others, so this was the right platform for me to do that. Glad you're enjoying the ride with me :-)
RJ Miller interesting, I had a 61 Ford Convertible ( And 56 VICTORIA ,292 TBIRD/aconditi.): had some luck, with Fords.......however Updating tires/ Fluids/ Mechanic would be fun and much Safer to drive ( esp Tires after 5-7 years, etc.)!!
I always find it kind of strange that people stick with one brand their entire life. Variety is the spice of life people.
Lou I know it was 8 years ago I don't know if he still has it I don't know if the car's for sale I don't know if the car is still around I wish I had this car
Hi Andrew, I'm not sure what the status of this car is, Lou
Wow power windows in 61. What a dork.
Hi PAUL, Hmmm. Suggestion. You think you might have more then 8 Subscribers after 2 years if you stop calling people who are sharing videos for you to enjoy a Dork. Stay well, Lou
And I'll grab the camera, as I usually do.
Ahh an early video :-) I don't think I'm saying that currently, here is a video loaded today. Let me know what you think? czcams.com/video/UODUOwfKB0w/video.html
Just teasing you a bit, I love your videos, keep up the great work!
what acceleration these had?
Hi konard konrado, This car is a "cruiser", rather than a "street performer", Lou
hah yeah ;p i found that it was about 8 seconds even for todays standards its really good result as for cruiser ;p
Considering that this car weighed 4,300 pounds, that's not all that bad.
nice car, poor interview.
DANNY MAC Hi Danny Mac, Agree, a nice car. I'll work on my interviewing skills, Lou Feel free to take a moment on CZcams.com and type in "My Car Story with Lou Costabile" and I hope you'll see other cars you like and hear from their Owners.
Needs a dash.
