We had 4 Bichon's and they loved wrestling and creating mats in their hair. Our groomer told us about the business card letter opener trick. Just slide it thru the knot or mat and it cuts it up nicely. Best part is the almost impossible to harm them.

I think Grandpa upped the pig feed during the cold weather last winter, so the half cup was what he did last summer. You will do just fine taking care of the animals, it may not always go smooth as silk, but they will be fed, watered and get pets

LeaAnn - when the dogs get bad mats it’s painful for them to have you brush them out (pulls on their skin repeatedly). Using a MatRake (with the blades) can make it easier but in my experience, a rechargeable clipper is far better, for the dogs and you.
Hi Matt! I used the finger dog brushes which are much easier to control and they do a better job than using a toothbrush. One goes on your thumb and one goes on your index finger and they have ridges on them. They really work great!

I had a battery operated kids toothbrush and one of my dogs loved to have his teeth brushed with it.

If the broody hens are repeatedly using the same nest boxes, you might try temporarily blocking those two boxes off to see if that works.
