- The Gibraltar Government is threatening to take reciprocal action at the frontier if Spanish authorities don’t stop the long queues.
Lengthy pedestrian delays to get in to Gibraltar this morning have sparked an angry reaction from the Government which says Spanish border authorities have started new passport controls with no warnings.
This evening there is also a long delay for cars leaving the Rock.
The scanning of a significant number of passports includes Gibraltar red card holders.
The office of the Chief Minister says Gibraltar authorities could start checks on cross frontier workers from next week. It says if there is no change from Spain it will not hesitate to implement new passport and ID card scanning.
A statement from the Gibraltar Government says that “in the event that no explanation is forthcoming, or that the explanation is unreasonable in all the circumstances, His Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar will act reciprocally, incrementally as from next week.”
It adds: “This means that cross frontier workers who are not covered by the Withdrawal Agreement should ensure they have valid travel documents available for inspection on entry into Gibraltar. Those who are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement will have to demonstrate this through the daily provision of valid travel and identity documents also.”
The Government says it has already sought clarification from Spain and that the UK will do likewise.

Been saying this for ages what Spain does to us we do the same.👊💥
You have been doing an incredible damage to Spain for years. Gibraltar are the aggressors not the Spaniards. It the Spanish do not put a check on your aggression the whole of Campo de Gibraltar would be taken by you.
@@jesusbermudez6775 We will grant their wish by moving the border .😆😆😆😆😆
It must be horrendous living in Gibraltar. It's an extremely overcrowded place. Everyone gossiping and knowing the private lives of others. There is no privacy at all in that place. It must be the most horrendous of hells. @@lablackzed
Give it back to the Spanish
I wonder if the Spanish will give up their possessions, Ceuta and Melilla, in North Africa.
The instability of the Spanish government has probably had something to do with this situation and Gibraltar will have no option but to reciprocate. Hopefully, Spain will see sense and realise that this creates no winners on either side of the border. Strict adherence to Schengen is unnecessary at this border and workarounds benefit all.
The real instability is in the UK government, with 4 prime ministers in the last 3 years and an unprecedented drop in living standards. British gammons voted to leave EU and Gibraltar planters voted to be british, now everyone should enjoy what they voted for 🤣 Greetings from bcn 😘
@@pwnage256 We are enjoying what we voted for, thank you. Any form of Brexit is much better than the alternative. Living standards have fallen all over the world, by the way.
@@anonnemo2504 Even brexit promoters such as Farage acknowledged the monumental failure that brexit has been. Nobody in the UK can find positives in brexit. We spaniards, on the other hand, can see the positives. An already weaker UK is a good thing for the Gibraltar situation, and blind numpties such as yourself just make it even better, so keep living the dream! btw do some research, you'll find out that no comparable economy in the EU has suffered such drop in living standards. But don't worry, you can still have your british exeptionalism for dinner ;)
No Britain standards have fallen not those of the rest of Europe

we live in 21st century and going to live on Mars… 100 years later people on Mars - what’s in the news today? Um, Gibraltar/Spain border 4 hour waiting queue…. 🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️
In the long run, it's not up to Gibraltar - it's up to the governments of Spain and the UK. Absent a special deal for this specific border crossing, there are two other options (1) this becomes a permanent Schengen border, which means passports or (2) Gibraltar becomes part of Schengen, which will mean Frontex will control entry through the airport and port, and this land border will virtually disappear.
The treaty being worked upon will be one between the UK and the EU.
In the long run, it is entirely up to Gibraltar. Self-determination trumps all other arguments.
It has been sorted English refuse it........🤣💦
Dear Spain, you will never get back Gibraltar, till you give Back Ceuta Mellila , and all islands to Morocco ..simple as..
Gibraltar is a colony, it appears on the UN list of "non-self-governing territories pending decolonization". Ceuta, Melilla and the Canaries, however, are Spanish and therefore do not appear on that list.
You are welcome.

The UK cannot do that unilaterally, according to the Treaty of Utrecht: "If at any time the Crown of Great Britain sees fit to give, sell, dispose in any way property of the said City of Gibraltar, it has been agreed and agreed by this Treaty that the Crown of Spain shall have the first action before others to redeem it."
A characteristic of the colonies is that they have different legislation from that of the metropolis. The inhabitants of Ceuta, Melilla or the Canary Islands have the same rights as the people of Madrid. Do Gibraltarians have the same representation in the British government as Londoners?
I don't think so.

Gibraltar is holy British soil.
Brexit voted to stop free movement.
Gibraltar voted (massively) against Brexit
It is fine most of the time so these queues are not down to Brexit. It is a choice made by the Spanish, as it is every time they decide to create queues.
@@FYCH45 Tell that to Scotland.
The queues have been there way before brexit
@@ade2487 yes they have indeed, Just get shenghen done.
Gibraltar Surrender. We Never
Gibraltar is Spanish because Great Britain offered to return it to us in 1717, 1720 and they asked Spain to exchange Gibraltar for Puerto Rico in the 18th century and Spain said no
Even if true, a three centuries old conversation would be a rather strange reason for considering Gibraltar to be Spanish.
Let’s roll out the tanks this is war
Thank you for the ending that says both sides need to sort it out as don't blame the Spaniards.
If Gibraltar also creates long queues that would be a disaster of Gibraltar.
Gibraltar don’t have any right to tell anything to Spain. If you don’t like it go home Brits.
