I'm a psychiatrist. My pitbull sits in the same seat as me as I see patients. Except for my OCD patients w contamination issues.....everybody loves her. Great way to break the ice when a sweet dog greets u coming in.

My best friend is a dog. She has gave me the love that nobody else did, when I needed it. And I have return that love. Everytime she sees me she is super happy and cant hide her excitenment, Im always happy to see her too. She follows me everywhere when I am around :) unconditional love
I also struggle with chronic depression and I got my girl certified as a psychiatric service dog. I always say that she is the best medicine. It's an uphill journey and people don't always understand why I need her but it's always been worth it.

I was already diagnosed with severe depression when my mom died. As expected, it became even worse. Got a dog as recommended by my doc. People were dubious whether I could take care of a puppy. Having a dog changed my life. I no longer relied on medication and became happier. Truly, dogs are the best antidepressants!
I'm sorry about your mom. Mine died a few years ago and I inherited the house I grew up in, along with her dog, a boxer whom I absolutely adored. He got hip dysplasia a few months after my mom passed and had to be put down. I've just been kind of existing since then, but I'm hoping I can pull myself together enough to get another dog

I hope that i can get a dog again in the future, right now my job keeps me too busy and sometimes i have to travel for a few days, so i dont have the time it takes to give a dog a good home i am confident that in the future it will work out.

I have found that the best remedy for depression is happy music, belly laugh jokes, and gardening. My daily routine uses all of them. My depressed brain needs that stimulation I have discovered. Dancing with my two dogs helps, too!

I adopted a rescue dog 2 years ago. I was told she was a beagle-hound mix...embark dna test revealed she is actually a german shepherd, husky, hound mix - lol! What I thought would be a 35lbs dog is currently 92lbs!!! But she is the cutest dog I have ever owned. Just like your experience, I have delt with a lot of depression and anxiety and hypertension the last 10+ years, and adopting my rescue 2 years ago was the greatest decision ever! :) Just thinking about her makes me smile...and I swear when I hug her and tell her "I love you" she understands me...she really lifts my spirits and gets me outside walking...and she listens to me...and the husky in her leads to a lot of talking back to me or just communicating when she wants to go for a walk and even when she wants to take an afternoon nap with me - no joke! She's so cute. I feel sad for her when we're in public because she looks like a big scary dog and lots of people change direction or the side of the street to avoid her. But I understand and that's ok. All I know is that I kiss her and tell her I love her every single day because life without her wouldn't be the same! Dogs are the best companions on the planet hands down! :)
I always had and have dogs and they are the best friends. When aged they fly to the sky with their own angel 😇 I cry and cry. And I believe the next one is send by the last one from heaven. Be happy forever family and dogs 🐕❤

Beautiful story. I burst into tears when I saw her name. My dog of 14 years was called Kaya. I got her from an animal refuge when she was just 8 weeks old. I got her when I was just 19 years of age. She was my best friend and my everything ❤
Cats and dogs are the true antidepressants! I got through years and years of bad jobs because I woke up in the morning and came home every night just because I was greeted by an eagar furry face!

It's amazing what animals can do for someone's mental health, from a rat, cat, dog horse, or even pig. They are nonjudgemental, love you unconditionally, and they just somehow know when your having a really shitty day that you need a little TLC and just come for a snuggle. I don't know what I would do without my 2 cats, my ginger tom suffers from really bad anxiety, but everything is on his terms, then we rescued 8wk kitten (black cats are hard to rehome in UK, due to the stigma attached to them ) he's the total opposite and so loving and gentle and knows when your having a bad day.

Lovely❤! I remember reading an article where a woman with multiple health issues lost her cat. Her health that had been stable started to decline. She was talking to her doctor, not a therapist or mental health specialist, I think it may have been her cardiologist., and he said, “Get another cat.” She did almost immediately after he said that & her condition began to improve. Don’t underestimate what love from a pet can do!

I think you have a beautiful border collie .ive had shelties for 30 years and now i babysit a 6 yr old corgie and i have seamus the sheltie whos 14 lol i love them so much!
Dogs unfortunately are not an antidepressant for me. But I love dogs and I enjoy seeing others that find happiness with them. Dogs are truly amazing creatures and just the definition of unconditional love.
