Paul Carrack has such a beautiful voice and is one of the most underrated musicians of his era. Who else agrees with me?
Damned good vocals!
Squeeze, Mike and the Mechanics, yes.
Amen

I can’t believe that Justin Beibers new song yummy has over 70 mil views but gosh it’s absolute garbage. You can’t beat the old classics.
Black suits and ties. All live. No autotune. What class. An element rarely seen anymore in modern music.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT PEOPLE TODAY WEARING BLACK SUITS ? ARE THEY ATTENDING FUNERALS DAILY ? 😸
Dark shades indoors. This is the essence. Everything in this performance is razor-sharp.
Can't get enough.
Paul has that combination of gravel and velvet down like nobody else.
Autotune is in their head and if it comes out not as planned, it still works because these musicians are so versed in chord voicing. They "were not" or "they weren't," "they didn't"; a good musician can use notes the same way.

No autotune. Just talent across the entire stage. This is music.

Yes imagine. What a concept, real musicians playing real instruments and really signing. Someone should try that.

The Man With The Golden Voice - the most underrated vocalist in music
I came here to say this exact thing 💯
How I agree , love Paul’s voice.
Not just a classic song... but how can Paul Carrack's voice get even BETTER with age? Amazing clip and very classy - everyone dressed nicely , playing live, and of course the audio quality is excellent.
Absolutely
I’m TEMPTED to learn this one now on piano. It’s been on the list for a while.
I'd prefer Miley Cyrus in a teddy bear onsie.
I’m 72, played bass for 50+ years, what great music this is with great musicians. Thanks Paul and incredible band from Western Australia.
Yup I'm a born and bread West Aussies🇦🇺
One of the most underrated singers ever, the hits he's fronted, Ace, Squeeze, Mike and the Mechanics, he should be in the RRHOF..
Yes I totally agree!
Rock and roll hall of shame
@@larryrubin5150 RRHOF is a joke. Real musicians don’t value the RRHOF.

Wow that's awesome! Who are your favorite drummers? I'm51 and I play drums too.... I love Jabo and Cylde from James Browns' band! Keep on loving music!
@@adrianlyord5300 Sina, a German drummer, I think, girl who is on CZcams and does 100's of drum covers is about as good as they get! I also like your drummer on "How Long". Very "in the pocket" kind of player!" I love The drummer from the "The funk Brothers" band from the 50's. They didn't get any recognition until decades later. They played as the house band for all the greats in Detroit at, Motown Records, I believe, was the name of the recording studio. The Temptations, Smokie Robinson, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Shirelles, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Muddy Waters, Etta James, etc etc etc....they all used the Funk Brothers Band! im 58 and pay the spoons...any good?
Everything about this is exceptional. A clear, simple version that was pitch perfect in every aspect. The gal singing backup had great tone, none of the instruments were overpowering. The drummer was excellent. Couldn't stop watching him.....he looks just like my plumber! The music we had and grew up with is still the best.
THATS RIGHT AND THIS IS REAL MUSIC THE BEST NOT THE SHIT THEY PLAY TODAY RIGHT ON MAN GODBLESS YOU.
For a plumber he has a good sense of rhythm ..
If he was a plumber at least he would turn up on time ! Given his sense of timing i mean...
The 70s were Rocks Golden years.
The most basic drumming ever.
You've gotta be over 60.
Studio musician drumming all day.
This is what real music sounds like.!!
The drummer is exceptional
There's a circumstance in theatre where one player "up stage" of others gets all the focus. As terrific as Paul Carrack is, that drummer inadvertently upstages everyone.
Drummer would not be on video with Paul unless otherwise..lol
That's Barnsley's own Dino Dukes.

Looking forward in spirit to the new music you will discover from decades past...😊
I came across it a year ago and keep coming back cuz it is so great. It is better than when he played it with his band in the 70's. The horns make it excellent.
Always LOVED "How Long", but this version takes the freakin' cake!! Paul & his band made a really good song GREAT!!!!!! Congrats congrats

Yes as a singer myself you get more depth of feeling in your voice from life's experiences.
"Some adults and kids" today are trying to kill the messengers of the past. Then after the messenger is silenced, they try to be more than the past, but they don't realise that they have become the new past soon to be forgotten. Why? Music is not a noise with misplaced random sounds. Have you ever heard a spanish person speak so beautifully as they roll one word in to another, or a frenchman, englishman, or asian music put to a classical dance. Well if you have then you know that they didn't kill the messenger, they became a past and present, messenger for the future. They listened, studied, and evolved to say more with the same language. Music is such a beautiful language when communicated well. THANK YOU PAUL CARRACK & ENSEMBLE...that was handsome, stunning, so beautiful!

Paul Carrack possesses a voice that transcends the boundaries of time, a captivating instrument that has remained a well-kept secret among those fortunate enough to discover his musical prowess. In the annals of musical history, his contributions stand as a testament to both his immense talent and his undeniable impact on the industry.
Despite his unparalleled artistry, Carrack has often resided in the shadows, overlooked by a world that seems to have underestimated his brilliance. It is a disheartening reality that so many fail to recognize the sheer magnitude of his musical gifts. Yet, for those who have had the privilege of experiencing his soul-stirring melodies, there is an unspoken understanding of the true depth of his genius.
Carrack's vocal range effortlessly navigates the realms of passion and vulnerability, seamlessly infusing each note with raw emotion. His delivery possesses an innate ability to touch the hearts of listeners, evoking a wide spectrum of feelings that can only be ignited by a truly exceptional artist. From his early contributions to the bands such as Ace, Squeeze, and Mike + The Mechanics, to his remarkable solo career, Carrack's voice has remained an enchanting force that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
One cannot help but wonder why the world has failed to acknowledge the greatness of Paul Carrack on a broader scale. Perhaps it is the elusive nature of his persona, the absence of flamboyance that often accompanies mainstream success. Or maybe it is the fact that his artistry does not conform to the fleeting trends that dominate the airwaves. Nevertheless, it is abundantly clear to those who have truly listened that Carrack is an unparalleled talent deserving of far greater recognition.
So, who else shares this sentiment? Who else has experienced the ethereal beauty of Carrack's voice and found solace in the transcendent melodies he weaves? To them, his music serves as a refuge, a sanctuary in a world often plagued by mediocrity. It is a bond that unites souls and transcends the limitations imposed by popular opinion.
In conclusion, Paul Carrack's voice is a gift to the world of music-an instrument that resonates with an authenticity and depth that is nothing short of extraordinary. While the masses may overlook his contributions, those who truly understand the power of his artistry stand united in their admiration. May his melodies continue to grace our ears and hearts, reminding us of the timeless beauty that can be found in the voice of one of the most underrated musicians of our era.

Well said my friend 👏
This is a fantastic, timeless classic. Love Paul Carrack!
I love the backstory on this song itself. Listening to it you'd think it about a love affair that falling apart, when in actuality it was written about their Bass Player leaving the group, or at least thinking about it. Hence why the bass is so strong in the beginning of the song. Love it!!
My favorite song. The bass is as "simple" and excellent as can be !!!
When you hear this song, and you don't keep time with something.....check your Pulse!!!)
I'm afraid you're spectacularly off the mark on that backstory!
"How Long (Has This Been Going On)?" is a song composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, for the musical Funny Face in 1927.
@@lauristonplaceeh3 Well thanks for bringing up this information, but first I think your use of the adverb “Spectacularly” was a bit over the top but we’ll let that slide. Yes Gershwin’s did write a song entitled “How Long has this been going on”, but then again so did Carly Simon - using the same FULL title,, and guess what….neither of the words are any where near each other…including the Ace version “How Long (has this been going on)”. Notice the difference in the titles. Now I have no idea if the musical arrangements are anywhere near the same on all three songs (and I doubt they are), and I really don’t care! All I know is that the backstory I cited above I heard from 2 different DJ’s (one a nationally recognized expert) and if you look up the Wikipedia on “How Long; (Ace song)” you will find the same backstory as above, perhaps written a tab better than I. I think you and I have educated the public enough but thanks for the comment and getting me to research this, it was enjoyable.
@@miltvolosyn3446 Dear Milt, Thank you for so civilly correcting me. You are absolutely right: the songs are completely different. I don't know how or why the misconception lodged in my brain. I have always liked Ace's song very much, so it wasn't that I was trying to put it down.
I first heard it back in the Jurassic Age (before CZcams) when I was working for the "Melody Maker" in London in the early-1970s. Somehow I heard that "the song was by the Gershwins", and that "info" somehow stuck with me. But I suppose, in the absence of instant easy access to recorded performances at the time, I just assumed it was the same song.
But, of course, as you pointed out, it aint.
Kind regards, LP.
His music is filled with soul. You can feel it in your heart and makes you move and makes you feel good.

Great drummer. Played for thirty years and anyone can play that sixteenth time on the hi-hat. It just takes lots of practice and stamina, which comes from doing it. Very clean and tight, very well done!
really sets the groove for that tune. also the tambourine player is nailing it!
I believe the drummer is his brother....
I don't think he is playing semi quavers on the hi hat though' just looks like quavers to me.
Looks like the tambourine is playing the sixteenths instead of the hi-hat like on the original recording, excellent job !

It’s hard to overstate how tight this band is. It’s just stunning.
This song is so timeless, still sounds great, especially in Paul's hands!
Oh dear why do we have to put up with such rubbish in 2021/2 when we have this wonderful track to make today;s music sound really crap. Are the so called stars of today bloody deaf? Do they not listen to this kind of real music? I reckon I am getting bloody old yes 78 but my musical listening is just the same, I wish time travel was a reality I know where I would go.
Sorry to say, this super oldy ,will never be out of the classics selections.its just the way it's,it will happen over and over forever.
This is one of the very best songs of the 70's, the best decade of music. I was born in 1971 so grew up on 80's mostly but as I've aged I've come to this realization. Nothing hits like the 70's.
One of the best and most underrated singers ever.
As far as I'm concerned the girl with the tambourine is the star of the show. That thing cuts right through the mix and there is never a jingle out of place! And she can sing and dance!!
What is her name?
Seen him several times….an absolute legend
AMSTERDAM LOVE REAL MUSIC THIS IS REAL
Love Paul's voice. He even sounds better now
Ages like wine even better now then before
I notice that. Bands 30 yrs later. Cream are much better. Sad we lost two of them.
Ace is definitely the most underrated 70’s band. Only three albums, nothing crazy, just epic and pure music!
I absolutely love this version. So clear and crisp!
Me too
As I’m a drummer, I know I’m Hot but this drummer is so Cool….PAUL is always great. Love the arrangement.
