I agree, man if Eric Clapton would have played guitar on the original recording...Not to take away from the original solo guitarist but Eric puts that sprinkle of magic to the sound...
Original recording stands on its own, but I know what you mean. Pretty cool when you can have Paul Carrack as your side show. One more confirmation that Clapton really is god.
Clapton. is one of the few great guitarists that i can hear every note of his strings.. Chet Atkins once said Clapton played the most beautiful notes on a Stratocaster ever..
I am 77 and I loved this song when it came out in 1975. I still like it, especially with Eric Clapton's help along with the great band and backup singers.
Some watch the sun dip into the sea and stay hidden for 10 or so hours. Others believe they saw magic that continues to get more mythical Everytime they see it...
I swear his voice has only gotten better with time. More soulful and deep. Took a great song and only made it better, simply timeless. One of my favorites of all time. Just a good flowing tune, you could actually understand the lyrics too, imagine that !
Aubrey bowles I agree 100 %. He was barely an adult when this song first came out. . . . . . . . or he looked like it anyway! One of my favorite musicians of all time!
Anytime you Add Sir Erick Clapton in a Music Collaboration , you can expect the Very Best Outcome. I mean let's Face it. You can't lose when it comes to Eric Clapton !
Dear Irene: As of April 30-20 it's "been goin on" for 54 years & counting-- 54 yrs of happy marriage with you. Since last Sept. you've inspired me, your family & friends as you battled thru chemo & radiation with your usual great smile & sense of humor. Geez, the nurses still love your daily morning visits as your treatments are finally finishing. We'll have a big celebration as soon as this coronavirus shut-down ends---for your B-Day, our 54'th and your beating cancer. I love you --- Wayne.
Singing is so difficult, especially keeping your voice sounding the same as you age. This dude does it so well, one of my favorite numbers from the 70's.
@@inspector7112 It IS My point. It IS not difficult at all , because It IS genes. It IS as if you dont lose your hair...It IS not your effort. God blessed u. Or etc
I've been a big Paul Carrack fan for decades. Great to see him on stage with Clapton-- both of them playin' the hell outta this fantastic, timeless song. I was reminded that when this song first came out, I thought it was performed by a black group, with black lead singer. Nope, instead it was one of those extraordinarily inspired and soulfully talented Brits. Where would we be without all their incalculable contributions to modern music? Hard to imagine, right?!
I have always loved this song, But Eric brings it to another level, Eric gives me chills on this one everytime. Great line up Paul is a great asset to Eric's band. Love all you guys.💖
He has a small following, here in the States, for sure but in general the OP is right. You mention his name to the avg person & most would have absolutely no clue who he is even though he sang on several big hits back in the 80's.
Carrack has not only maintained his voice, it has gotten better over time. A lot of singers should be calling him, asking what he did (besides listen to a lot of old, great blues singers, apparently!) lol.
Inspector711 I never said smokers couldn't sing. But smoking damages the vocal chords almost as much as it does the lungs and heart. Even though some smokers are still good singers in spite of their smoking, they'd sing better (and live longer) if they'd never smoked.
There's a great film of Paul Carrack on the road, showing how hard it is to make a living in the music-download world. Great that Clapton gave him a high-paying gig.
Clapton was no where on spot with the lead, he changed it all up and holy smokes. He put more feeling in the lead here than I could have ever imagined for this song. What an awesome sound he gave Carrack.
Eric is such a gracious man and the rendition of this classic is ten times better then the original or any subsequent versions. You can SEE both artists getting into and off on the moment the song is merely a conduit to playing a new version with the best vocals by Paul and truly the best clean soulful breathing shake it up smooth enjoyable lead solos (both) by Eric... my favorite is Paul looking out at Clapton from the keyboards like a fan getting lost in his talent.. it reminds me of Keith looking Charlie back to audience because in that moment its about the music and him getting off. In this fake Arthur Murray learned dance steps and sampling ... It so liberating to see and hear real authentic artists in the moment!
I saw Paul Rogers when he fronted Bad Company back in the late 1970s at Earls Court .He went on the join Queen for a while ...yes we have have some of the finest singers who are still around thank god. I could watch these two all day. The youngsters today need to take a look back and see how lucky we were to have such talent, not like the so called groups and singers these days...
I love it, I love it, I love it! The two of them were absolutely incredible! Carrack's voice and Clapton's guitar was an epic performance, especially due to their age! They are timeless!
I keep seeing how people say how underrated Paul Carrack is. Nope . His career has been amazing. He’s amazing. Underrated people don’t play with EC. The Man with the golden voice. Damn right.
PC is awesome! At 57, I have been loving this song for years, the living years came out right after my father passed abd will always be a special song for me, and who could not love Eric Clapton, they don't write music like they used to!

Paul Carrack is so good. A treasure. His vocal is the standout on this performance just as it was on Five-A-Side when this was recorded all these years ago. And that’s saying something given who’s on stage with him on this. Timeless 🎶
Brits do soul music their own way and it always turns out fantastic! Joe Cocker,Annie Lennox,Lisa Stansfield,Corinne Bailey Rae..even Paul Rodgers was rocking the soul vocals 50 yrs ago but Paul Carrack's voice is soooo smooth...what a treat to hear him again!

So happy that I stumbled across this link. I saw Paul Carrack with Mike & The Mechanics many years ago, and still have his solo albums on vinyl. He sounds absolutely fabulous in this performance. As for Eric, well, they don't call him a guitar God for nothing.
Paul Carrack has always been one of my favorite singers since 1972's How Long with Ace when I was a kid to Mike and The Mechanics. Just brilliant a brilliant lyricist and that voice!
Ace, Squeeze, Mike +Mechanics were all fortunate to have PC as lead singer...one of the best...his version of Jackie De Shannon's "When You Walk in The Room" is another hit! He's my soul brother!
Amazing. I had NO idea that was Paul Carrack in Ace! That was a perfect rendition of that song, I've always thought PC was one of the leaders of the blue eyed soul singers and this song pretty much nails it down.
Where does one start after viewing this video, thanks for posting, I'm so thankful that we have these guys and Clapton still making music like this, definitely in Eric's groove, and what a poppin right-on drummer, great melody, vocals, bass and rhythm guitar. I'd love to have a few friends over bring this up on the 70" Samsung with the sound bar and say "check this out".
Awesome! Never seen these 2 together before. Usually when Eric plays with a PC, it's my main man - Phil Collins. But it's great to finally see him performing with the underrated Paul Carrack, who i've always thought has one of the greatest voices ever.
+TEAL MARKLEY PLUS add to that the GREAT drummer Henry A. Spinetti .... He puts on an AMAZING show along with the others..... Better drummer than Steve Gadds, which also plays with Eric C....

Classic all the way around.
This is the greatest musician and vocalist you will ever hear. His voice is pure gold.Totally natural. Well done Paul, keep it going for your fans.
Can't argue that-always been in my top 3 or 4 as far as singers. Multi instrumentalist at a high level as well as that voice.
omg totally agree!!

me back, to my youth!

It doesn't get any better than this; Paul Carrack, Eric Clapton and How Long😅😆🥰❤️😎
Right!! Clapton always amazing!! Carrick is better than ever!!
Love them both!!
I love them and there is nothing to add
How long I've waited for this collab. Brilliant!

What a voice, what a guitar. Music is still alive
Carrick is one of the best, what they call a "singer's singer."
You are so right. Paul Carrack just keeps getting better and better. I adore him.
Actually, an interpretation usually doesn't come close to the original, but this one by Eric Clapton and Paul Carrack does, simply very beautiful.
Eric Clapton is and will always will be the best GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME NO ARGUMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not gonna argue with you either because it's Stevie Ray Vaughan.
CLAPTON IS GOD. GOAT. NO DOUBT.
Maybe Jimmy Page and oh yeah someone by the name of Jeff Beck.

Paul Carrack - the greatest musician you never heard of. At least in the US.
real music fans excluded.
McSkiver I will never understand how underrated Paul Carrack is.....
Lots of us in the US have heard of him
If he hadn't gotten himself kicked out of Squeeze more people would have heard him.

Gregg Allman is another who has miraculously kept the flame.
Chuck Voellinger Dave, most singers do see an degree in their voice with age but blues singer their voices get seasoned with age.

Best thing a singer can do for their voice is not smoke...
