I always considered myself really lucky because I grew up in the 70s with this great great music that I love so dearly. I totally agree with you, in fact I often say there is just no way to describe what it was like back then. I really think you had to have lived it to know. .

Oh how true is that! From “John Barleycorn Must Die” to his show I was blessed to see at the Montreal Jazz Festival, “An Evening With Steve Winwood and Friends”, the friends being Tito Puente and Arturo Sandoval - Steve sings in Spanish just as well as he does in English, all of it top shelf!! His work with Traffic and his solo work are so tragically overlooked or considered an afterthought.

I'm 58 and I don't think we will see any return to it. Not to be a doom and gloom man, but its like the current generations have had tripe so long that is all they prefer because it is coated in sugar and deep fried. We know what real music "tastes" like and it fills us and nourishes us. Today auto tune and backtracks, etc. are all they can appreciate. This sounds like a 14th century relic to them. Its sad, they are missing out on such profound harmonies, music and deep, deep lyrics. Enjoy while you can!!!

I share this sentiment. Actually, I was young and poor during the late 60s when Winwood was just becoming known, but I did not know him or his work. The in 70, I went into the Marines and spent a huge amount of time out of the US, and once again, I was isolated from most of the music of the day with the primary source of music being the armed forces radio network, which had diversity (country, pop, classical) but lacked depth. By the time I was clear of these things, Winwood was out of the mainstream. It was not until the early 2000s that I "discovered" Winwood, and the song that did that was "Can't find my way home." When I started to use the (then early) Internet to learn more, I was pretty surprised at the number of groups Winwood was in and his connections to so many works and people in the industry, and the more I listened to him, the more I came to appreciate him, and today, he is one of my favorite artists of all time. Like you, I believe he deserves far more attention than he gets.

Every damn one of them up there -- Trucks, Bramhall, Weeks, the drummers, Eric and Steve -- not a blemish in the ensemble anywhere at any time. They hit it outta the ballpark with this rendition. You can argue that the original will always be best just coz it's the original; but the bluesy vibe in this set took "Can't Find My Way Home" up another notch.

SO difficult to get TWO drummers perfectly in sync from start to finish, and there was not one missed note or off-step from beginning to end. As good as the original recording was and still is, _this_ one is brilliant - and live to boot. On their best days someone screws up something during a live performance, and there wasn't a glitch _anywhere_ in this rendition.
