I ended up going with the Veloster N in 2022 over the Elantra. I personally think it's a better looking car from the outside and for that model year it was only offered with the Premium trim options so it came with the same seats as the Elantra N. The trunk bracing also was a big turn off, even if it's removeable. One final selling point was the analog gauges. I've been in a number of cars with the digital clusters (everything from the MB E350 to the Elantra/Kona N-line), and all of them are flat looking. I think the Elantra N's is pretty good, but at night compared with the underlay lighting of the analog gauges, or in the sun where you can see the background details and metalic N-logo in the Veloster, it's just better. I do agree the overall interior quality is lower, however even compared to some other Hyundai products (especially the N-Line) it isn't that bad - though the doors are especially low quality feeling. I absolutely agree that the worst part of the car is the 3-doors. There's no parking stalls in my city big enough to allow for full door operation and it's very common to have too little space to even make it to the first notch, meaning when I open the door I have to hold the door while sliding through a gap maybe 2 feet wide. Even at home where there is more space to open my doors, the drivers' seating position is too far back so if you want to stow something in the back seat you need to reach around to the center and throw it between the seats. I've had the car for 1.5 years now and no regrets on the purchase. Now that the Veloster is no longer an option new, there isn't much of a choice to make between the two cars, however if I had to make the choice again today I'd still choose the Veloster.

Agreed to both of you, there's no excuse to make such an amazingly ugly vehicle like that. Didn't they do any focus groups on the styling? I have not heard one single person say that they like the look of the Elantra N, that sucks. I'm thinking of going back to a VN and although it is a better fit than the VN, I wouldn't even consider the Elantra N it's that damn hideous to me. Even my wife who never really has any opinion on how a car looks said she hates it and that it's one of the ugliest cars she's ever seen. That says a lot. I had a 19 VN and she didn't drive it because it was a manual but she thought it looked good. I have an SS 1Le now and she likes it pretty good, but she told me NOT TO get a Elantra N.

I do love a hot hatch, but as you mentioned, I have more than myself to haul around, so four doors may be more useful than three. I just bought a 2020 Veloster Turbo, it’s a quick fun little car, but over the years my families had some very fast cars that I was principle driver of, and I need more out of the car. I was going to order an Elantra N, or the Veloster N, but couldn’t bare the wait times as I was moving away with my gf and needed a car quickly, and the Veloster turbo was a great price, and available, and since I needed a car asap I just went with it. However after the winter I’ll be making this very hard decision, I’ll be ordering one of the 2 cars come April/May time frame, most likely trading in my Veloster turbo for one or the other (or keep it as a more “daily”, but these Ns seem to be great at that so would be a waste I’d think) I fell in love with the first press release video of the Elantra N, but after owning a Veloster I’ve fallen in love with the quirkiness of it, the short wheelbase, etc.
Any have experience with both? Looking for feedback.

  • @JoseJalapenoTheCarSalesman

I’d have to agree with Quantum lab I’ve owned both a 2020 Vn 6spd and a 2022 en 6 spd. And the En is just missing something from the driving experience. On autocross it’s just a bit more toned down. I’m sure that has to do with the wheelbase and not being able to feel the rear as easily. The en feels faster in the straights and has more low end torque on the top end. But 1-2-3 in the VN is something special around turning! (IE autocross!) just wish they would have given the en the track app they gave South Korean markets!

That 3 door design on the Veloster is more for the younger generation kids I think but obviously price plays a issue because of the markups and just having the money to buy one

The Veloster looks like a cheap econobox inside and out, because it is. If it looked good people would have bought it.

@@ENDCT-mx5ei Veloster is not perfect but it still looks better than Elantra with its hidious grill. Secondly, of course velsoter is econobox, its cheap so thats expected. Same applies for the Elentra which is not exactly luxiorious. If i wanted better interior, exterior and quailty i would buy the GTI but it just happens Velsoter is more FUN to drive.

Agreed, I feel like the colors are honestly what ruins it. Performance Blue with the red accents really doesn't work imo. The Veloster has a more sporty appearance so I think it barely gets away with it, but the Elantra doesn't. It just looks silly. Make those red accents black and it would probably be a lot more attractive.
