- Explosive testimony Monday before the Commons standing committee on veterans affairs by a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces suggests a combat veteran was offered MAID twice - despite repeatedly dismissing medically assisted suicide - and was told that Veterans Affairs had carried out the service for others.
"Can I get help with the mental trauma I incurred from serving my country?"
"Maybe you shouldn't be so selfish and think about Assisted Suicide."
This a tragedy that people are being asked this.
Well Justin was very clear, veteran's ask for more than Canada can give. It seems that because veterans are not rich corporate types or connected to the WEF that they don't benefit from the billions Justin has dolled out to his buddies.

My cousins son's mother inlaw committed suicide after we believe MAID was suggested. She was in a difficult place and felt she was a burden on her family.
It is not right to encourage people who have financial problems and feel they are a burden to use MAID. We believe this encouragement was all that was needed for her.

Here's an idea. Take the salary of the worker who suggested this to the veteran and give it to the veteran. The worker can then in turn apply for maid. Problem solved.

How many of those that are in a situation in which MAID is encouraged are in that situation because they did not receive adequate healthcare in the first place? We give you inadequate treatment through our public healthcare, your condition worsens, then public healthcare officials encourage you to off yourself. As you just heard: "deny, deny, deny, until they die" ( 11:00 ). This has already happened since MAID was introduced, and it is inexcusable, and in general, no healthcare official should be encouraging one to make this decision, the idea should only be introduced by the patient or their caretakers on the patient's behalf.

I know and respect that people have different highly personal views on MAID, but my own view is that the Supreme Court in its Carter ruling should never have put the government in the position of having to enact MAID legislation.

I still remember the VA screwing me in 2016 when I had been to many C&p exams got a rateing then while working I was haveing mental breakdowns so I scheduled a new C&P and they never got back to me. 6 months later I contacted my VA rep and she told me oh they said you did go to an appointment and told them you were fine. I provided proof that I was at work at the same day and time. Then tried to cover the whole thing up.

Have you called your MP, I doubt the veterans affairs Minister is competent but maybe your MP has some interest and takes the interests and needs of their constituents to heart and seriously? I really wish I had the ability to end the way Canadians have been dismissed especially our veterans. Not one of the ministers are competent...or worthy of the positions and power they hold. I pray you all get the best assistance and access to care to improve or cure whatever ails. For a government that touts the only way to improve the lives of Canadians is to increase their control of those lives and the institutions they convinced Canadians initially were needed for improvements that never materialized. The major problem is none of those board members ever served a day in their lives. They have no idea what we're going through as veterans. But yes the screams and smells and sights will never fade of leave us. That's something I'm ok with. I gave up my youth to my country, I feel we're being mistreated at every level of government in Canada. It disgusts me but everytime I say something they threaten to cut off my funding.

Yes sanctuary trauma, veterans affairs Canada "the least we can do is the best we can do." Fund Veterans center for excellence for chronic pain management to the tune of 20 million over 5 years and then refuse to give the clinics associated with the center a multi disciplinary clinic registration so they can actually do the work. Then the minister lies to me in writing that the clinic cancelled the program due to low up take.

No doubt considering they said there would be multiple drs assessments and appts to make sure this would never just be an easy way out. They fully expected 2yrs + before an individual would likely get approval
But it is cheaper to make it just 2 weeks and ensure the paperwork is completed after the fact.
My Dad did MIAD at 93 yrs, he couldn’t get out bed, could hardly make a sound when he talked, he couldn’t move in his bed even to cover himself. MAID was a peaceful and dignified way to pass. He was ready and willing and perfectly understood the circumstances. So I think this MAID is very individual.

Its a slippery slope. You have a single good anecdote, then you have the past of our health care. I can see no ways this will turn good before this turns evil. We already are normalizing extreme health policies (hormones for kids), I don't think this is the way to go. Your dad was an exception, especially at that age where a bad fall can critically injure you.
unfortunately, this case is not isolated. I personally heard a story about coercion by a POA who even took the steps of leaving the country to attempt to get the answer he was looking for... in the name of compassion. The person involved has said that she does not want MAID, but what of those that are scared to speak up.

I’m in Brandon MB and the line is line is long.i was lucky and got in through the province with advice from the base surgeon while still serving and on retirement. Only way too get help was too give up all the medical release help I could have got. Horrible system. Edit because I read the comments. I served for 23 years. I have lost my brothers and have had their blood on me. But I’m just a Canadian Soldier! From the beginning of the VA we have fought. Look it up in the 20s veterans where shot in Canadian streets. Truly learn our military history and you will agree with me. Canada doesn’t and never has ever shown it’s soldiers their due. You don’t deserve the sacrifice of our young men, and veterans. You vote and have a voice, do something, you don’t even need too get up too send your thoughts too a the va or the minister, even your MP. Make them earn their pay.
To be clear, when I stated thanks Pierre and Justin, I meant the Trudeaus, not Monsieur Poliviere. We need and deserve a new PM and I am counting on him to bring Canada back to life. It's been dying for a long time.

When early alzheimer is diagnosed mental health and adaptive living supports must be mandated immediately as well or else fear and anxiety requests for MAID will result in premature deaths…and we fail to provide to our most vulnerable compassionate care. As the MAID program only provides accountability and transparency when too late or in a confrontational way at a most inappropriate time the implementation of MAID needs further development now
