I remember in Afrikaans chat, a coffee maker in Afrikaans is called a "perkolator"(?), but I forget the exact spelling. In America a percolator is an older machine for making coffee than a coffee maker, but the Afrikaners told me that they don't make a difference between the two in Afrikaans.

The term 'perkulator' used in Afrikaans is an anglicism - a term/word taken from English and used in another language. The correct Afrikaans would be 'koffieperkuleerder' (Afr participle = deelwoord). However it is not widely used. We simply refer to ' koffiemaker' or 'koffiemasjien'. Should coffee be made by a perculator/filter it is called 'gefiltreerde koffie' (filtered coffee).
