Phantom Premonition is the Kaldheim precon commanded by Ranar, the Ever-Watchful. It's main focus is on the new foretell mechanic from Kaldheim, but Ranar is also good at making cheap flying spirits, so this upgraded precon deck is focusing on that as well as some infinite Ranar combos that we can easily afford to boost this deck's power level! - Hry

Playing Ranar for the past few months, it's amazing.
So DJ at Jumbo Commander must have grossly misunderstood this commander as he claims the most spirits you can get a turn is 1. I read it as you guys did. The cards pretty cool.
He definitely misread the card tell him the nerds say hi lol 😂
He's half right... you can only get 1 spirit per trigger. e.g., if you attack with Brago, you only get one spirit
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Judge's ruling from 02/05/2021 says, "Ranar’s triggered ability triggers only once for each time you exile cards from your hand and/or permanents from the battlefield, no matter how many objects were exiled at the same time."
@@grampaw5605 no bubbles have been burst. OP was saying another channel was wrong.
So funny that the first win I got with this deck (played 100% stock) was with a Storm Herd/Goldnight Commander combo giving my wide-ass board +21/+21, since both of those cards were cut. But I'll definitely be looking into getting some of the recommended cards! As a brand-new MTG player, videos like this really help me focus on the ideas and keywords to search for rather than just reading through millions of blue and white cards and hoping I find something neat.
This was my first commander deck and made me love the format :)

With how awesome you guys are at ranking stuff (please see ranking every commander series), you guys should do a video power ranking the precon powerups so at the end of each episode you can place them on their own little tier list and give an idea of their relative power level it would fit into.

This really helped me out with decided what to put and deck out of the deck. I could see leaving in swiftfoot boots just to give eldrazi displacer and some other combo prices haste or haste to some big creatures in the deck like sun titian or barroggo. It be cool to see you do a deck upgrade but focusing a bargo cause he is a valid commander choice if you want to take out more fortell cards
When commander preconstructed decks come out a little overpowered, I think it would be cool for you guys to do a budget version and then a try hard version of each deck. With like a 2-300$ budget. Just a thought. I dig you guys’ input on precons

Buy both for $40. I did and these are 2 of my favorite decks now. Granted, I threw like $500 into them.
Everyone in my play group went for the Lathriel Deck, so for the last few weeks ive been playing against and I kid you not. Two Lathriel decks and a Numa/Mariel Deck. Ranar has been having alot of experience fighting these elves.
I agree that these are the best precons thus far. I kept in storm herd though and have cast it in all three games I drew it because you can foretell it with the ethereal valkyrae. I know that's magically christmas land but I have done it so often and made 30 to 40 1/1 flying horseys lol
Used stormherd earlier in a game only 8 life but mystic reflectioned it into 8 diluvian primordials. Love Ranar it can go off.

Yall didn't steer me wrong with the Rogues upgrade. My bank account isn't happy, but I had to get everything you recommended. These upgrades took the deck from being pretty fun already, to just over the top "what did you do?" Moments from the table

A little bit surprised not to see Mentor of the Meek and Drogskol Cavalry on here... also, Opal Palace can be really good... if your deck does interact with +1/+1 counters, say Marath or Ghave or Atraxa

I got myself this one because I like the colors more, but I played the elves deck yesterday--super powerful. Looking forward to trying this one though.
Honestly both of these decks (even our budget versions) are surprisingly strong! I do think the elf deck has an edge though if you build it to the max

I have a question regarding Angel of Serenity. Yes, it may be expensive for a non-stick removal, but can be played if in dire need. But the thing I like more about the card is that you can exile your own ETB cards and than just flick it, so you will get the ETBs again? Or am I wrong about this? Just building the rn and thought that's a great combo.
Great video. Ordered both decks and all the upgrades for this one that I didn't already have. Any thoughts on adding Alrund's Epiphany for extra turns to this? What would you take out for it? Alrund himself doesn't look good outside of Standard, but his Epiphany could be useful. Thanks!
Ghostly prison is one of the best cards in the deck. It has never once not been a good draw and can save you in any stage of the game. I wouldn't cut it personally.
I love Ghostly Prison. Such a pain in the butt for my friends.

I'll probably end up picking these up and try the changes you suggest and let you know how it goes. First i want to play it via spell table with my group as vanilla and then see how much it improves in teh runback.
Edit: Have you thought about adding Ashiok's erasure? It's cheap to obtain, 2 mana to cast, gets around uncounterable spells, and exiles spells to synergize with your commander.
4 mana counter spell that is fragile is not really exciting to us.
Phantom Premonition mixed with Azorius Guild Deck becomes pretty solid as a good Commander deck.

Since your combos can often rely or at least benefit from Blasting Station, maybe Trophy Mage and/or Fabricate (though, I don’t know the price of Fabricate right now)?
Fabricate is a bit pricey but atrophy mage is budget.
Can't wait for the elf upgrade video. Golgari Elves are my modern deck so pumped to have a cheap in to building them in commander.
That one is coming shortly as well. That deck also got totally supercharged by adding $50
I “chef’s kiss” every time I cast Hanged Executioner in Ranar now.
They don't typically put rare cards from the current set into precons. They want you to go out and seek the cards from boosters etc. This is why Cosmos Charger wasn't in the deck. It's also why Raugrin Triome wasn't in the cycling deck for C20. Surtland Elementalist is a special case, in the sense that it is technically from Kaldheim and is a rare, however it's not available in regular boosters, just the theme boosters.

You only get a spirit token if the card put in exile was from the battlefield or your hand!!! So when Pale Curtain is on
the battlefield and a permanent gets put into a graveyard from the battlefield it would get exiled and you would create a
spirit token!! Unless the replacement effect changes the zone from which it locates the trigger.

So I know there was a couple changes to the oracle text of ranar... One completely nerfed it people say and then buffed back a little bit but I don't really understand...
Do any of the combos still work with the current oracle text on Ranar?

Random question (really enjoy your guys content) what do you guys think of the card crashing drawbridge for a haste enabler?
In this case I’d mostly prefer a way to weaponize the infinite creatures to eliminate the need for attacking, but crashing drawbridge can be decent in some decks where combat is the main focus. Also to clarify I think it’s a budget card only ❤️
It’s a little slow because it doesn’t have haste itself but it’s a wall so it’s great early I would also recommend tuktuks rubblefort if you’re in red and fires of yavimaya if you’re in red green

I like most of your thoughts on upgrading this deck other than the very random and off-theme infinite combo's thrown in for.... what reason? Like, if you just want to win via an infinite combo I'm sure there are better options.
What is a better infinite combo than one that wins the game?
Reflections of Littjara from Kaldheim... double all your casted spirits... instant double Drogskol Captain or any other Spirit with ETB/Anthem/Sink etc...

Hey Nitpicking Nerds! I also "upgraded the precon" of this deck, I dont know how much of the OG deck is left but, I only have 6 Foretell cards (because Mystic Reflection is up to 9€), do you think Cosmos Charger is still worth it? Just feels like an Augury Raven to me.
You could get rid of the foretell subtheme and still have a functional deck, maybe 6 isn't enough for the charger to be good

He makes a spirit when you activate and when it resolves so two total

Ghostly prison is taxes. Which are staples in blue white deck imo. Like smothering tithes or rysict study. Ghostly prison seems like a good fit imo

Phyrexian metamorph makes going infinite with restoration angel and Felidar guardian that much easier.
It gives you an extra piece for Guardian, but not Resto, Resto can only blink Non-Angels.

Definitely! Those are two high impact cards for this deck that we couldn't play due to budgetary restrictions, so go for it!

They’re both nice and let you play magic, I might tend toward choosing elves mostly as personal preference

Nope saves the creature and the spell fizzles.
is Foretell considered an activated ability that would benefit from Training Grounds and the like?
I don't think it is, but I also don't think it would apply, since the card isn't in play when you foretell it. Not 100% sure though

can anyone explain how saltskitter gives 4 tokens each turn? It would exile itself which would give you 1 token from ranar and come back during end step. Where do the other three tokens come in?
It says "Whenever another creature comes into play, remove Saltskitter from the game. Return Saltskitter to play under its owner's control at end of turn." It will be back on every single end turn. Meaning you can create a token on an opponent's turn as well. Because there is no "your turn" anywhere in that card. Since Commander regularly played with 4 players, this can happen 4 times before your next upkeep, assuming everyone's going to cast a creature spell. I still think that's a stupid card :)
Why not include promise of tommorow? Protects from board wipes and combos with blasting station if in reading it correctly. Thank you for making another awesome video love your upgrade episodes
Promise triggers once in the graveyard so it doesn’t work.

I would like to build really spicy Grixis edh deck with clone and Brudiclad core, but I'm a little bit stuck, curve is too high and deck is not in balance, I think 😐 If you have time to hear me more please let me know and also you can use the idea for your future videos :) I really think this build will be really fun and spicy!

Cast mystic reflection on felidar guardian, momentary blink another creature, then flicker the original mkingnantoken to flicker the other creature that flickers back and forth to infinity?
Got a question for you. Ranar says “whenever YOU exile something create a token”, so it triggers for sure with SAMURAI or REST IN PEACE? Cause in that case is the card’s effect that is exiling that thing end not you directly casting a spell like path to exile... my mind fucked up thinkin about this 😅
They explain this at 9:47. Short answer, cards you control on the battlefield count as "you" causing the effect, thus a creature being exiled from the battlefield with Samurai does count as you exiling it and will trigger Ranar's ability.

What are some of your non budget picks for the decks?
Rest in Peace and Altar of Dementia are some of the big ones, along with Phyrexian/Ashnod's Altars too
So are they saying to put in time warp instead of ruin ghost or to put both in and take out something else for time warp
Time warp with ruin ghost and mystic sanctuary
You play time warp then you play mystic sanctuary to return the time warp to the top of your deck and you use the ruin ghost to return the sanctuary

that symbol just represents colorless mana
@@axe8148 exactly, which is not the same as 'mana of any colour'. It's very specifically 'colourless mana generated by a colourless mana source', e.g. from myriad landscape, or a wastes.
@@HalcyonVentures Ah. I looked up the rules and I see what you mean now with the difference between colorless and generic mana.
Don’t forget mana rocks. Sol Ring alone represents two fulfillments of the colorless requirement (assuming you also have enough colors to cover the generic requirements).

Salt skimmer isn't infinite, right? You exile it, but before it returns you create a spirit, or is the trigger all at the same time and it is infinite?

It’s not infinite, it will just make a spirit basically every turn :)

Because it’s whenever any creature enters the battlefield, so it will trigger on each opponents turns as well as your own.

Yeah that’s how it works, as long as one of your lands makes colorless you profit infinite

I think they're being a little hyperbolic and dont really mean go infinite in the traditional sense. However, since HE has an ETB and the deck is running tons of ways to flicker, he can be used in conjunction with your commander to create a lot of spirits quickly.
I have an upgraded copy of this deck that I put a copy of Conjurer's Closet in and find HE is a target quite often and he generates insane value quickly.

So, I built this and added the samurai of the pale curtain. Let me just say, the card is absolutely disgusting with Ranar. Stops death triggers, tokens replace themselves after “dying” (exiling). Seriously shut down my friend’s Nevinyrral deck.
Edit: it does work how you say. It’s individual replacement effects that you own and control.
Are you sure about that? I asked a similar question on reddit and they all said it wouldnt work for some very rules heavy reason.
