- I recently reviewed the Greenworks Pro 80V Self Propelled Mower with two 4AH batteries and dual bay rapid charger and here are the 5 things that I love and 2 things I don't...
I also answer the question; "How loud is the Greenworks 80V mower?" and "Do I need to wear ear protection with the Greenworks 80V Mower?"
"Where can I watch a review of the Greenworks Pro 80V Mower?"
"Is the Greenworks 80V Pro 21" Lawn Mower Worth It?"
This mower was purchased direct from Greenworks but is also available at Costco and various other models are available on Amazon.

I recently bought this mower and...I love it! Its actually enjoyable to mow the lawn now. I like how its lighter and so much easier to control, including stowing in my limited-space garage. Its definetly worth the money and hopefully will be the last mower I ever need to buy.
Agree this thing is fantastic!
Picked this one at Costco for $500 with two batteries plus a Costco 8 year warranty on the battery and mower. Coming from mowing with a 12 yr old craftsman that was held together with zip ties, band clamps and duct tape, this was like a spaceship. Worth it!
Yes it’s pretty darn nice! Congrats on your upgrade!
Hey That was a good buy All that plus warranty
Did you catch it on sale OR that was normal price then? It's $599 at my local Costco.
@@tewilk that was on sale. going on sale again in a week or so
@@aaronnelson1191 thanks, I just got my flier… might go buy it then get my cost difference refund as I’ll be out and about Friday with my trailer.
Mr. Hardy... Your reviews are outstanding... You're a natural speaker and you're honest. Thanks, buddy!
I appreciate that and am glad you have found them helpful. Thanks for taking the time to leave this compliment, I truly appreciate it!
Long time green works pro user. Have the mower trimmer and blower. All 60v. I’ve landscaped using all gas products on the side for years prior to owning these. I can say every electric variant has a break in time… for you almost they al have their quirks but after owning them for several years I mow much more efficiently and none of the issues have remained issues. I’ve either thoughtlessly worked over them or have managed doing simple things like applying the gas sooner as well as when turning using the mowers locking of the wheels to my advantage. Love the video quick and informative.
Appreciate the feedback and confirmation on the great products! We are enjoying it! Wasn't thinking of going to electric quite yet but my 14 year old daughter is mowing lawns to raise money for a trip to France... I figured less mess with fuel and maintenance the better. She is enjoying it and has already raised over $400 and has all summer to go. Thanks again for the support!
This was great information! Purchased this mower from Costco as well this past weekend and putting it to work this week. Thanks!
Great to hear! It's a great mower and I've since bought the trimmer, edger, hedge trimmer, blower, chainsaw and snow blower... I've got about 5 batteries so never have to worry about it not getting the job done regardless of the tool I'm using. I have videos of all of those tools in this playlist: czcams.com/play/PL1A8tIKFgP4Bp1XcwXP60qp59axAtpU-z.html
excellent review very detailed and hits all the major points. thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great review! I have heard great things about that mower by several people...
My daughter is mowing next door and I can’t even hear it. ~15 decibels quieter than gas mowers. Pretty nice.
Great video and detailed explanation and critics. I got the Costco one.Thank you!
Thanks for watching and commenting! I’ve enjoyed it so far. Good luck with your new mower!
Great review! I'm grabbing one from Costco on a BFD deal today.
Hope you enjoy it, we have! I now own a bunch of Greenworks Tools after liking the mower so much... Check out our playlist of other greenworks products...
I wondered about that with the rear self propelled. Thanks for the info.
No problem 👍 Not a deal breaker for me, we have gotten used to it but it is different for sure.
I just used the same mower for the first time and I mostly loved it. When I disengage the drive and pull back, the wheels are locked. I guess it takes a while to release, but I'll get used to it. I bought it on the Greenworks site and it came with the single charger, a 4 amp and a 2 amp battery. No problem for me, since it only takes 20 minutes to mow my lawn. I'm looking forward to buying the string trimmer too.
Agree on the delayed disengage of the rear tires. Feel like there could have been a better solution but we’ve gotten used to it. I have the string trimmer and blower combination both work great. Here is my review of the blower. Still need to review the string trimmer. czcams.com/video/KPVBUpT7dlU/video.html
Thank you for your hard work!

Just ran across your video based on my obsessive researching on most things I like or buy. I've had multiple GW 80v products for a few years now; backpack blower, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, 18" chainsaw. My toro push mower, I got 11 or 12 cutting seasons out of it, just had it's first major mechanic issue last week. So, since I'm well invested into the GW 80v world, I took the leap of faith and ordered the 21" gen 2 mower. Man, you couldn't be more correct on the hap-hazard layout of their website. I'm a super techy, geeky, kinda guy and I got confused on what model I was buying, they have 2 different Gen 2 models(push vs self propelled at the same price but with different battery combos) and I ended up with the gen 2 21" push mower instead of the gen 2 21" self propelled, none self pace, model. Thankfully they have a reasonable return policy and it only cost me about $45 to ship the first one I ordered back, but it definitely tripped me up. Totally my fault, but I definitely think they've got a lot of room for improvement on the UI/UX of their website.
I purchased their 60v self propelled mower last year for my parents to use around their garden. I fell in love with how easy it was to adjust and the folding feature, to help keep the deck clean, was one of those, it's some simple and so helpful, I couldn't wait to get one for myself. I almost pulled the trigger on their newer 80v 25" deck model, but thankfully saw another reviewer who mentioned that it doesn't offer side discharge. So, that was a bit of a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for sharing, I too am invested in the platform and have had good luck so far... Now if they would just send me free stuff... lol
Most excellent review , thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful! We continue to enjoy the mower and the whole family uses it.
I do a lot of night mowing because of my mom with dementia. Those front lights are awesome. 💡
They do work well... My son will tell me it's too late to mow and I remind him that its quiet and it has lights... lol
I used my Greenworks Pro 80V the first time a few days ago. It's awesome. While there is a slight pause when drive mode is engaged, it is so brief that it does not affect the performance at all for me. I prefer rear drive because of superior traction, especially going up a grade. I bought my mower from Costco online. It was delivered to my garage door, wonderfully packaged. Assembly is a snap. While the Costco package comes with a single-battery charger, it took under an hour to charge each battery from new. Not a problem at all. When you're finished mowing, it stows safely in your garage or shed by folding the handle and rotating the mower vertically. I'm just so very pleased with this mower.
I agree, it's pretty slick. I had zero intentions of "going green" any time soon but am very pleased with the product, the power, and overall simplicity. So far my best purchase of the year!
It takes less than 45 minutes to charge the 4Ah battery and about 25 minutes for the 2Ah one ! I did my whole lawn using only 20% of the 4Ah battery.
Our 2023 Tesla Model 3 has instant response anong with my sons and his wife's 2024 model Y! Great info on the mower, thanks!!
Glad it helped and yep I apparently know zero about Teslas. Lol. 😂 unfortunately can’t update a video once posted.
Great video. I just bought the Costco one. I don't think the charger will be an issue for me, though if I go all in on Greenworks products maybe I'll buy the fuel charger. With regards to Teslas, you heard wrong. They have immediate and powerful torque. They're the best cars money can buy. Thanks for the video!
Yes I think I got my electric car reference backwards. Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting! I love my mower!
I have this mower as well and it is a really great. Moved from gas to electric. But there are things I have not gotten used to yet. 1.) The speed control is easy to bump and change when you turn. I would prefer a less continuous control with settings that click in place or a lower profile knob design, 2.) it takes a while for the self-propelled clutch to disengage so moving forward and then pulling back is not fluid and 3.) while the mower is supposed to change over batteries automatically, the mower sometimes stops and it takes a while (15-30sec) for the system to switch batteries. These are minor inconveniences for a really great mower. Quiet, powerful, and takes up hardly any space in the garage. No oil or gas to worry about.
Agree on all points. I’ve however not had the issues with the battery switch over. I have had it turn off when my bay is near full. Not sure if there is a sensor or if this is a coincidence.
Good points! Thanks
Thanks for watching and commenting! Glad it was helpful!
I’ve had a pro 60 for a couple years and I really like it!
Haven’t used any of the 60V but have most all of the 80V tools now.
Hey guys, good review. I am a green works owner too. I have the 82v commercial stuff and it's very very good.
Hey Bob, I wanted to step over and check out that commercial stuff while down in Moultrie but didn't get a chance. I've got quite a bit of the 80V home products for use in the burbs but would love to get my hands on one of the zero turns and stuff like that... Know anyone with connections... lol - Josh
@@hardybrothersproductreviews Hmmm, I might know a guy. Lol
I just ran this for the first time today and yeah the things you said you hated about it was true. However you can just let go of the accellerator a few seconds before you turn, the momentum should allow you to get to where you need to be, and by then the wheels will unlock and you're free to turn. That was the adjustment that I did within 15 minutes of using it and there's no problem as far as that's concerned
Yep, it's an adjustment of old habits, not a show stopper for sure. I now have about 7 or 8 tools from Greenworks... I've drank the Greenworks Green Kool-Aid...
I have the Costco version of this. It also comes with a high lift blade if that helps anyone. So far I am very happy with it. It's definitely overkill for my lawn, but for $100 more than the base EGO push model along with Costco's perks, I decided to give it a shot. I've noticed the self propel issue as well on my first cut. What I did on my second cut was I just let go of the trigger about a foot or so from where I wanted to end and just push over that last bit. Didn't have any issues with it on that second cut. I think for most people you will be able to get used to it and figure out what works for you.
Costco version should be identical except for the single bay charger... Agree each mowing getting more used to letting off on the self propel to ease with turning or pulling backwards. I like it so far!
I picked up the Costco version as well, and got the 80v trimmer since it was a 150 and came with another charger and 4ah battery.
I own this mower. The mower works well. Three issues that are less than good, first, the control for self propell seems to constantly shift; second, the mower stops occasionally and you must take out and put the safety key back in; and third , you can pinch your figures by the hand controls if you don't watch out.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't have the self shifting issue with self-propel but I wish it was truly more variable than it seems. The intermediate stopping happened a few times to me and it seemed to me like the batteries were losing contact or something, mine would restart w/out pulling the safety key, i'd just wiggle the batteries and it would start up. Haven't experienced the pinching either but see how that might happen. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great review !!! spot on 👍
Thanks
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
Going on 3 years with the 60v version of this mower. The 2 points that you mentioned here you will quickly get over and get use to the slight hesitation when first starting. When I engage the self propell I'm already beginning to push it so you don't notice it really. As for the locking up, if you release the self propell about a foot or so before turning that does not happen. I love the mower so much that I sold my Honda Hrx217. By the way, switch the mulch blade for the included high lift blade. You will get a much better cut. Also, being the blade is so thin I sharpen it every month with that Arnold wheel that attaches to a drill. I leave the blade on the mower while doing that as well.
Great tips thank you!
Thanks for the video. How do you clean the underside of the deck? The manual says don't use water.
Huh; had not read that. ISO far I’ve been able to pick off the grass after it had dried.
Good information Thank You!
Glad it was helpful! If you happen to purchase online, please consider using one of my links... i'll get a small commission at no incremental cost to you. Thanks and hope you enjoy your new mower! I've bought about 8 tools and love them all.
@@hardybrothersproductreviews Certainly. Question how many batteries does it take please?
The key to disengaging the rear wheels is to manually push the mower forward a few inches after turning off the self propel drive. If you try to turn or back up immediately after turning off self propel without pushing the mower forward, the rear wheels will remain locked. Not sure if other mowers are like that, but it's just one of those things you get used to.
totally agree... not a deal breaker, just an adjustment in what you've always known if you had a self propelled mower...
I’ve had this mower 2 years now and so far I love it. No gas. No oil. No fumes.
And it starts every time! I agree it’s a great mower! I have two now. One for each kid. 😂
Teslas actually have much less acceleration delay than gas cars. Not sure where you heard that.
I was wrong… I had it backwards.
I absolutely love rear wheel drive mowers. If you are mowing up hill or just driving the mower up a hill you definitely want rear drive. That way when the front wheels lose grip as the front wheels down force is decreased going up a steep hill you don't loose grip at the rear drive wheels. It also makes it easier to do a fast tight u-turn by rocking back on the back wheels and turning while it's in drive.
We’ve learned to appreciate the rear wheel as well although because this mower is lightweight my kids end up letting the front come up too much and mow a bit uneven but works well for me.
Got mine at Best Buy and it's the same one as the Costco version. I've noticed the wheels tend to lock up when I disengage the transmission to pull it backwards or make a turn. I found out through trial and error that giving it a slight nudge forward before I pull it backwards or turn it will unlock the rear wheels so they roll instead of skidding across the lawn.
Yep good tip. Just takes a little bit of change of habits and then it works pretty well.
I have it and really like it.
Does turbo do anything beneficial if you’re not going through tough stuff? Cleaner cuts?
I’ve not noticed any significant benefit. I was mowing in turbo the other day to see if it was any better and then decided to go back to normal so I didn’t drain the battery too fast. It’s definitely more power but not sure it matters if you don’t need it. I also understand that it is supposed to auto engage turbo as needed so the button is just if you know you are in deep stuff the whole time.
Thank you so much for the clear explanation. I purchased this mower from Costco. Most unfortunate, my husband passed away last year and he handled all the mechanical stuff on the property while I handled our business/office/home, so I asked one of his friends to assemble it for me. I went to use it for the first time today. I placed the charged batteries in, attached the grass chute, lowered the wheels, etc. I started it and was very pleased at the low volume of sound (as you mentioned, about 80 decibels); however, when I went over grass, it did not cut anything. I was totally bummed. Obviously I have done something wrong but have no idea what. Any thoughts?
Sorry not sure i know why it wouldn't be cutting. I assume you've confirmed that it in fact has a blade attached. Next I've noticed that you can hold in the self propel handle and start it and it immediately starts moving. Not sure if you then grab the other handle if it engages or not. Maybe make sure you have the green handle held first when you start and then engage the grey handle to walk with it... just a stab in the dark, no clue if this matters. Good luck!
@@hardybrothersproductreviews Thank you so much for your prompt response. I believe the problem lies in the fact that I did not know I needed a key! I saw a red key of sorts by the batteries but when I pulled it out, it actually appeared more like a plug of sorts so I dismissed it. Talk about feeling dumb! I'm hoping to try it again tomorrow and I'm sure it will work then! Thanks again, I love your reviews.
Great review!
Do you have to use the self propel feature, or can you just push it along?
We use both. It’s light enough to push for sure. And the self propel is fast. Has an adjustment but not a lot of fine tuning.
Wondering if when you put it in storage mode (lover the handle and put it up on its rear wheels. Can you then wheel it somewhere like a dolly?
yes you can
I got the mower from Costco with the $100.00 discount and 8 year warranty on batteries which is great since batteries are expensive to replace once they die. I do wish that the battery compartment door would stay open on its own. It a pain to keep it propped up with one hand and then try to remove the batteries with the other hand, especially since the batteries are not light!
Yeh the Costco deal was a good one. Unfortunately I bought about a month before they announced having them. I have to agree on the battery door. That’s an excellent point and I agree the batteries most certainly are not lightweight. Thanks for watching and commenting! Good luck with your mower!
Great review I just recently got the Harbor Freight Atlas version that looks almost exactly the same for only $215 before tax with a 20% off coupon and I already had 4 batteries but I bought the fast charger but it only charges 1 battery at a time and it still isn't that fast but it's definitely faster than the older super slow charger that I had from before but I already had several of the Atlas tools like the 80v chainsaw, 80v weed eater and 80v pole saw and they used to have a push version of the same mower from Atlas that the wheels wouldn't spin and it was like $60 cheaper that I wanted to get because I just want to push it to save battery life and that 1 was cheaper but for some reason they discontinued it so right now they only have the 1 self-propelled 80v Atlas version that you can still push but it has that extra bar that you can squeeze so that the wheels will make it go but I don't hardly use it because I don't want to kill the battery quicker but they look real similar but I like that your batteries are pretty big and you have a fast double charger that's awesome for sure but then that makes it cost a lot more but great review!
Have no experience with the Harbor Freight version but sounds its worth a look. I think the key with any of these is pick a platform and stick with it so you have plenty of batteries. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Good Review..👍🏼
Still not sold on Battery 🔋 powered mowers or tractors.. My Husqvarna 21” mower with gas Honda GS160 come in @ 83 decibels..
Higher pitch of Battery 🔋 mower has higher pitch in my opinion is more damaging to 🦻🏻

Thanks! Yep, I get it. As I was pulling out of my driveway yesterday and I was watching my neighbors college aged body builder son yanking away at his mower trying to start it. He was 😤 pissed. I turned to my 11 year old son who now goes out and drops a battery and mows our yard and a neighbors yard and I said buddy, that right there is why I love these battery mowers. No fuss, just push the button and go. I bought into the full suite of tools and love them. Not a tree hugger and had many crappy electric yard trimmers and blowers and these are great. Wife and kids just get it done regardless of the chore. Price is still high but I also enjoy not lugging gas cans or worrying about bad gas and clogged carbs.
I have a Chevy Bolt and there is no delay between accelerating and the car taking off, it's instantaneous. I have never heard of that electric car delay issue. Looks like a nice mower, just worried about the batteries only lasting a few years and then having to buy new ones.
Yeh, I think I may have been backwards on my electric car scenario... have been corrected by a few folks... Maybe unlike gas engines that dump fuel into the carb and then take off the electric cars are instantaneous... definitely not the case for this mower there is a delay. So the batteries are 4 year warranty from Greenworks and if you buy from Costco they double the warranty to 8 years. I have Milwaukee and Dewalt tools that have lasted years with no problems on the batteries... i think the tech is getting much better but I'm definitely not a lithium ion battery expert. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@hardybrothersproductreviews Thanks for the reply and your review!
@@hardybrothersproductreviews yep I have driven evs and they are instant with zero delay. I believe you about this mower because the makita has a 3 second delay in its self propel altho no delay letting off.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like the buying process is confusing. Right now I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s OK to use 80v batteries with different amps. I see some 80 V batteries with 2.5 Ah some with 4 Ah and one had a 5Ah I believe. Do you know?
Yes you can use all 80v batteries interchangeably across their line of tools. I have 7 tools now and about 6 batteries.
Good review. The one thing that annoys me is the headlight. I can't figure out how to turn it off, I'm not sure you can. Seems like a waste of battery-albeit small as it is an LED. Unless I am missing something. Also, one of my battery indicator lights on the mower control panel didn't work right out of the box...minor nuisance, no biggie.
Yeh no way to turn it off that I’ve found but as you say minor energy draw. I’d call and ask for a replacement battery. They will likely ship you a new one and not request the old one back.
Thanks for the pros and cons. Just bought mine at Costco yesterday. Would prefer NO batteries since I already have their 80V tiller, but ok, now I have spares. And two chargers. I thought all these self-propelled walk behind mowers were rear wheel drive? I have a gas/carburetor type self-propelled rear wheel drv that I've never used because it's impossible to move without the motor running - at least I assume that's the problem. I've never started it and will return it to Costco. I'm not having that problem with this Greenworks version. Rolled right out of the box.
Self-propelled is one of those things you think will be great until you use it. It's more efficient for me to pull my mowers backward, and then go forward again, rather than turn around all the time, so that will take getting used to. I bought this one because, besides my itty bitty lawn I have 5 bumpy acres of grass and weeds. Except for the bit covered in pine trees, I've mowed almost the whole dang thing with a push mower, and it's serious exercise. This 80V self-propelled came with a 5 year warranty AND I could get it through Costco. I already know Greenworks' service options are pitiful in my area, so if anything goes wrong, it's going back to Costco.
Costco backing you on any purchase is a great deal... I have a bunch of batteries and chargers now, but figure more is better, I'll never run out... haha. I now have the mower, trimmer, hedge trimmer, edger, snowblower, chainsaw, blower... i think that sums it up... got my son to be 11 year old son out mowing with it now and he is hooked... he mowed 3 lawns and made $85 in one evening after school... there are zero kids in my neighborhood doing this so if my kids want to they can make a killing... and I don't have to refill tanks or change oil... :-)
@@hardybrothersproductreviews wow. He can support you in your old age when you get there :)
I thought about the G/W 2-stage snowblower in the Costco warehouse this year, but the winters have been pretty dry on the Colorado front range for the past few years. Just couldn't justify the cost, and I always need a little exercise in winter.
Hi ! Thank you for the great review.
Which model no is it exactly ? I can't find it anywhere. Most of the time they are black, and or dont have the folding option.
Thank you! I got mine on Greenworks.com here is the model number: Greenworks 80V Mower With Two 4AH Batteries and Rapid Charger
Model: 2533902
My rapid charger was a dual bay but it didn’t specify that. Most people are finding the same model but with a single bay charger at Costco or on Costco.com. Amazon seems to have this mower but with only a single battery on the mower itself. amzn.to/3MNAiuE
I think Greenworks has a mess on their hands as it relates to how they are creating so much model confusion.
@@hardybrothersproductreviews
Thank you, I will have a look !
The Turbo mode adds only 3dB? Thank you!
Yep right around +3 db
I got this from Costco on sale and only paid about tree fiddy after i used my rewards check. I'm not sure if they're weeds or mini trees from seeds that fell off a tree in the backyard but would this mower cut them down just fine? Or should I trim those first before using this mower for the first time? Also, does it come preassembled in the box and you just unfold it or do you have to build it from the box? Mine is still in the box since it's been raining here.
I think there are about three pieces to put together. This video I did shows the I setup. czcams.com/video/5pdjePdnF34/video.htmlsi=QvL7Hujnzyqi6wZ4
Also if the little saplings are smaller than pencil thickness you will be fine. It’s a great mower!
It seems very similiar to the snapper we have- but we did not get an eight year warranty- ours is quieter
I didn’t get mine from Costco so didn’t get the 8 year either but it has a 4 year standard warranty. I haven’t seen the snapper mower.
These things are so lightweight that the self propelled version is not necessary imo We have the 80vMax Kobalt push version. Love it
they are lightweight but we live on a hill and my daughter likes the self propulsion on this one... last mower was heavier and no self propel... lol
I was at Home Depot today n checking out mowers and the more I gave the mowers a moving workout the more I thought the EXACT same. some of these ELECTRIC mowers are so light similar to mowers from 25+ yrs ago when most "residential " mowers didn't have all that SELF Propelled attachments to it that it actually is not needed in most cases n even preferred. heck I used to cut lawns all the time without it and thought they very agile n easy to maneuver. then as the mowers got "better" and sturdier with heavier materials it was beneficial that a mower was self propelled (FWD imo) but these new electrics might just be better off as simple PUSH n not with all that drive equipment. hope u get good use and it lasts a long time
Can you adjust the angle and length of the handlebars on this mower?
No to the length but there are two angle adjustment locations... Upright and higher and lower. I actually did not realize this until this year when my son struggling with the placement.
I did t know this either. My wife is short and hates my new mower because she says it’s too tall.
I have the 80-volt Pro and hate how the wheels lock if you want to pull the mower backward. I have tried the stop and push forward method, which still locks up.
I try to let off the self propel handle about 2-3 seconds before I plan to pull back and that has worked. Definitely takes some time to get used to it.
I appreciate the review, but my 23' Tesla Model Y Performance has no discernible latency. There is no delay when pressing or letting off the throttle. However, my wife's 23' Highlander has a drive by wire throttle setup and there is noticeable latency. Maybe the older Teslas had this issue though and hopefully they'll eliminate the latency in future Greenworks products.
I think I was just wrong. Not sure why I thought that was the case but sadly I cannot edit it once it’s posted. The latency hasn’t been a deal breaker just something to get used to… maybe a “hidden safety feature” lol. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@hardybrothersproductreviews It wasn't enough to dissuade me from buying one, though I do appreciate you mentioning it!
Is there a neutral drive setting to control better when working close to fixtures?
You can just let up on the self propel handle and operate it as a push mower, so yes.
Thank you! I just bought one. @@hardybrothersproductreviews
So I have a 48V with 2 x 5AH battery. Can this unit be upgraded by using different battery pack
To my understanding you cannot switch battery voltages on the mowers.
Heard that about a Tesla? Really? Delay, then it takes off? In a second mine will be passing 30mph and spilling your slurpy. Great review on the mower!
How is the torque can it handle small tree branches and stones?
Yes no problems with small sticks and stones.
My son just got this mower and said the battery on first run didn't do very well. He had to do back and then a little of the front before recharging. He thought batteries worked independently (like his dad's Ryobi) but they seem to drain together. His Costco one had one battery charger but he didn't get the length of time you did. He barely has 1/2 acre.
He should return it. The batteries should drain one after the other. I’m still getting 90 mins after a year. Yeh the double charger was from Greenworks and they stopped offering it shortly after I bought.
Mine is 2 mos old from Costco. One of the batteries won’t charge. What is the return process? I don’t want to take the whole system back, just one battery. Love the mower tho.
Single point height adjuster seems nice at first. But over time, the linkages and pivots wear making it quite sloppy. The mower won't cut flat because the deck is bouncing around over uneven ground. Individual wheel adjustment is better by far for the long haul. Also, front wheel drive mowers are easier to maneuver as you indicated. However, they have trouble pulling themselves uphill if there's any amount of moisture on the grass. Toro has a great fix for this issue with their Personal Pace rear wheel drive system. It drives the speed you walk and disengages when you stop. It's very fluid in its stop/go/backup maneuvers. And there are no levers or handles to fumble with while doing so. It just works. Thanks for the good video.
Curious if the Toro Personal Pace is electric? I actually replaced that very gas mower with this one and was never happy with it... Not sure if I had a bad unit but it might as well have been a push mower it seemed... My wife was not happy with it, she would joke that yeh its personal pace, whatever pace I push it that is the pace it moves... Maybe we had a bad one because I had always had luck with Toro in the past. Thanks for the info on the single point adjuster, hoping we don't experience that issue, we don't change heights often. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! - Josh
@@hardybrothersproductreviews , I have a gas powered one that I've had for 15+ years. I just got the electric version of it. The Personal Pace feature has not changed in design. I used the gas one to mow mountain bike trial for many years. It has the power to climb very steep hills with no effort on my part. I have not had the electric one out of the yard yet, but it feels the same in the yard. When the drive belt needed replaced it did slow down. I think it was slipping. The belt was very inexpensive and took 5 minutes to replace with a common ratchet and socket.
@@victoryvisiontour thanks for the reply... I wonder if maybe the belt was slipping from the beginning on ours. I don't recall doing any assembly so maybe I bought it already assembled and possibly it was put together incorrectly. I just remember being disappointed with it... My brother has it now, I'll have to take it apart and check it out.
Great
Glad it was helpful! If you haven’t purchased yet and are able to use one of my links I’d greatly appreciate it! Best of luck with your purchase.
I agree... Super Confusing!! I bought it at Amazon... I went to Greenworks and give up... Went to CZcams to learn "something".
Big company like that… they can do better…
I just bought the COSTCO version .
2 batteries with the green charger. Only 1 battery charges at a time. My question is. How do I know when the battery is completely charged? Will the cooling fan on the charger stop when the battery is fully charged? Or does the cooling fan keep running when the battery is fully charged ?
The flashing green light will become solid but the cooling fan keeps running on mine. Is this normal ?
Sorry for the delayed reply; I assume you figured it out by now. The fan will stop and green light will be on.
Hey They need to step up with the amp hours on the 80 & 82 volt batteries.
I think they max out at a 5amp hour battery but i've not had issues with run time with the dual batteries so for now, for me anyways, this is not a problem.
It already 320 W-Hr … that’s like a 16 Ah 20V. Any more and it’s getting pretty heavy.
The company GreenWorks has the strongest volt battery for the supposed commercial use. Ego has 8 amp hour or possibly more even though it’s 56 volt battery. I would like to see more amp hour batteries especially if they come out with a 2 stage snowblower. I guess people now will be saying oh the batteries are too heavy.
@@josephpuchel6497 the 5ah gets you the same as the ego you mentioned. If they are a zero turn then yeah, but seriously just buy another 5ah.
The locking that happens even after releasing the propulsion throttle comes in handy for making turns in a dime, that’s what I use it for
I get what you are saying and it’s something that takes some getting used to… I think I could turn just as easy without dragging locked wheels and I liked to be able to pull back. We are still happy with the purchase it just takes some time to change old habits and learn new ones. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What is the best length should I cut the grass, lower (2) level, or mid (5)?
So I'm not a lawn expert but I mow higher vs. lower... if you feel its too high you can always drop down. Also depends on time of year, heat, water conditions, etc... We tend go 5 or higher and mow weekly in the Spring/Summer here in Ohio
@Hardy Brothers Product Reviews well I do higher so the grass could have that greener look. Thanks for responding
@@sullivanvega5345 I agree with that strategy... too short and it will burn up...
@Hardy Brothers Outdoors that's what I was told. Great video & how detail it was.
My handle bolts and screw holes are Robertson shaped and I can't find replacements anywhere
Sorry to hear that, I'd try to call Greenworks support and see if they can ship you some.
We purchased one from Costco, have used once, so the jury is still out a little bit. Seemed fine however, but I don’t see anything in the so called owners manual about the two types of blades. They are similar but not the same. Is one for mulching and the other for side discharge or what? Can you help? I have looked on their website and still didn’t see anything about owns manual, operating instructions. Perhaps you know. It’s not as if I won’t use it either why but I am curious. Thanks for any help!
I think one is for improved mulching but not positive. May want to reach out to Greenworks service and see what they say. We've had ours for a year and my daughter mowed 4 lawns per week last year and my 11 year old just took up mowing this year and knocked out 3 lawns the other night... he made $85 and is hooked! haha
The second blade is for tall grass or wet grass. It's a high lift blade - mine says it right on the blade. For my use, I wish the high lift blade was the one they installed. I'll be swapping mine out.
Found this on Costco's page - 2 Blades (Standard and High Lift Blade- for Better Bagging and Mulching)
Wow. Good to know! Thx. Never even thought about my 2nd blade yet. I’m about to go out and mow my tall wet lawn too!

What are the dimensions when it's folded? I have s space issue and knowing how high it sits and how deep it is when stood up would be helpful. Those meansurements are nbot online that I can find.
Unfortunately it will be later this week before I can take those measurements for you as I’m out of town.
@@hardybrothersproductreviews compliment the fact that you're willing to do it at all, even sometime down the road, is wonderful. I appreciate it, thank you very much
Hi John, sorry for the delay in getting back to you... When the mower is folded into storage mode you would need a space that is 22" deep by 43 1/2" tall by 21 1/2" wide... Hope that helps!
@@hardybrothersproductreviews THanks! I have a space just big enough to winter store out of the way. My 2015 80 volt model doesn't fold, and sucks up space. I'll just wait till spring to pull the trigger given it's fall.
@hardy brothers product reviews
I ordered the 80v 21in 5.0ah battery lawn mower, I’m just confused with how many batteries can it hold? 4ah/5ah or 2 2ah batteries? Can all pros hold 2 batteries? And does it matter on battery size if it can hold 2 batteries?
They’ve made a mess of their offerings for sure. I’m pretty sure all of the self propelled models have two slots even if they only sell you one battery. Battery size and number is going to determine total run time. I have two 4ah and after one dies it auto fails to the other and I can continue or stop and put the dead one on the charger as I continue mowing. The bigger the battery the more the uninterrupted mowing time. Does that help? Greenworks needs some serious help with their product management and marketing.
Any chance you could tell me the model # for the one you have, I’m just trying to make sure I don’t get like a 1st gen with one port because I think 1st gen ones have problems. And only hold 1 battery and not 2.
@@Itsmoooose this is the model that I bought: Greenworks 80V Mower With Two 4AH Batteries and Rapid Charger Model: 2533902, I now also have a second one that came from Costco which is virtually the same but the physical battery size was smaller and the charger only charges one battery at a time... I don't see the exact model offered any more on Amazon, this is the closest one but I cannot tell for sure if it has two battery ports if you bought a second battery - amzn.to/4ajlu2O
I also have a popular review video on my other account that allows me to link to stores like Lowes. Last time i checked the exact model was listed at Lowes, so you could buy online and pickup in store or have shipped. Go to this video czcams.com/video/5pdjePdnF34/video.htmlsi=_Bvi_Lv9LT_gcUXz and expand the description and there should be affiliate links to the models available at Lowes. They seem to have the same exact one I have shown here.
Just bought my Greenworks 80v mower. Can I leave the battery in the mower if it wasn't used? I took out the other one that was used. Thanks
I believe that is fine. I usually throw both of mine back on the charger but likely not necessary. Probably worth taking a look at the battery storage recommends in the users guide, they do reference not storing in hot locations and a few other tips. Hope you like the mower!
@@hardybrothersproductreviews Thanks
You can leave the batteries in just pull out the red key. Going on 3 years with my 60v and zero issues. I leave the batteries in until 1 bar left then I take them out for charging.
@@Shortcuts2185 Thanks. never thought to pull the key out.
@@Shortcuts2185 yep. Red key is just a safety switch so you don't even need to pull it... once you let the mower die it is powered off.
You heard Tesla has a delay between hitting the 'gas'? It is the exact opposite, an automatic transmission gas car has a delay but a Tesla (and most EVs except for maybe vinfast) are instant power, no delay.
Yep I was wrong but can’t update the video after posting.
Great review! I was never thinking of going electric but my neighbor bought an Eco from Lowes last week and it was so quiet and his lawn looks good. So it got me thinking especially as my LawnBoy is struggling after 17 years! I think I'm going to go with the Costco deal. I see Costco includes 2 batteries a 4 ah and 2ah. Does anyone know the exact run time of the 2 Costco batteries combined?
My lawn usually takes 45-60 mins with a gas push mower depending on my energy levels. So decent sized subdivision home. Thanks!
Same happened to me when I saw my neighbor mowing but didn't hear him... lol. Strange that the Costco version now comes with a 4 and 2h battery, they used to both be 4ah and they had an extended warranty up to 8 years. The two 4ah batteries were supposed to last 90 mins, so I'd assume you are around 60-70 mins now... Probably my biggest gripe with Greenworks is their crappy marketing and poor product versioning/comparison... no rhyme or reason to why you can find 7 variations of the same product. crazy...
@@bl6369 agree on the Costco customer service...
I get about 1 hour and 20 minutes on the 4 ah but that’s not using the self propel. I don’t use the self propel because I have so many trees and shrubs to mow around
How do you unlock the blades.
Grey handle activates the blades. There are two handles one is the self propel and the other is the blades. I believe grey is the blades and green is the propel.
Not only the website doesn't allow for products comparison but the signing in process of the website is impossible. I registered and I couldn't sign in after that. It just kept showing that I needed to sign in after signing in. I tried this in different web browsers with the same result. Really frustrating. .
Yes I agree, their user and customer experience leave a lot to be desired... If you have a Costco membership, or know someone that does, that may be the best route... Costco has terrific after sale support.
I love the mower , but I’m having problems to make turns . I have to turn the self propelled off and turn back on for every turn . Can you help ? This can’t be good for the mower .
That’s pretty much how it works since it’s rear wheel drive. Most self propelled gas mowers are front wheel. Takes some getting used to for sure. I just let off about a foot before I need to turn.
Can you turn off the selfpropelling feature or is it always on?
Yes you can operate it without pulling the self propel lever
90 minutes battery life span? Well I'm glad I've watched this review, no way I'm buying new batteries every 90 minutes.
No no no. 90 minute run time. 😂 not sure if I said that or not but you are the first in 40k to point it out. Hats off to you!
great…..thank you…
Thank you too!
Quick rebuttal on the statement "...takes a second for it to go...", push the accelerator on a tesla and you are on warp speed. I don't know who told you this but I doubt they drive a tesla
Yep I’ve been told that a few times now that this video has reached over 50k views
I went with EGO 👍🏻✌🏻
Have heard good things but don’t have any personal experience.
I don't want self-propelled. Can you turn the mower, back up, etc without the drivetrain fighting you? Can you just push it with self-propelled off?
Has anyone disabled the self-propelled? These mowers are light. I can't imagine why anyone needs self-propelled, and I don't want to fight the laggy drivetrain that you've described.
Thoughts?
you can most certainly push it w/out self propelled if you wish, just don't hold the handle that activates it, no reason to try to disable it. You can turn it fine, just takes some time to get used to letting off the self propel a foot or so before turning.
can it be operated with only 1 battery?
Yes it can. When one dies you can throw it on the charger or keep on mowing as they auto fail over.
How much meters (M2) with 2 batterys 4 Ah Thanks.
not sure, but it mows for about 90 minutes... So I'd say, if you know how long you mow your current yard, easier to do it by time. obviously grass length and wet vs. dry play a role too.
I hate that you can't go in reverse without turning it off, other than that it's pretty good.
Edit- after using it again you can pull it in reverse, just have to wait a second for the drivetrain to disengage
Yes. I noticed this too very odd. I had a gas powered rear driver mower that didn’t have that delay.
Yep, that makes it a little challenging but with some practice it's not been too bad.
I love Greenworks but lately No responses when a problem with what we bought.HELP!
Sorry to hear that. I haven’t had to call them yet but hoped since they only offered a phone line to call that they had great service.
I have a 14" 2 x24 mower but.....the plastic green on- handle broke off and doesn't work. I need a replacement! Greenworks parts department won't answer their phone. HELP!!!
Paul, sorry to hear this and unfortunately we are in no way affiliated with Greenworks so cannot assist in helping you reach their support line. Hopefully they will step up and make it right!
I disagree with you about the wheel adjustment. There have been a few times in which I had to adjust the height on one side of the mower. For me it is an inconvenience not to adjust them individually. One time, I adjusted the front wheels high so that I can bag the thick cover of leaves on the lawn.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I still think the adjustment is great and beats messing with four wheels individually. But do you like the mower overall?
How is this vs the Ego
Unfortunately can’t give an opinion on on that as I’ve never tried the Ego. Sorry.
I own and drive a Tesla and it does not take any second to respond to the throttle. You push on it and it is gone, actually after one and a half second you may not even see it anymore.
lol yes I’m an idiot. Lol 😂 too bad you can’t edit CZcams videos after you post them.
Looking for a sale at Costco. 599.99 right now in February.
Lots of different pricing out in the market right now, mostly varies by number and amh rating on the batteries. Costco is a good bet if they are still doing the extended warranty on the battery.
But won't the gas and oil leak out when you tip it backwards to store it? (just kid'n) ;)
Haha. I told Jason I can’t wait to get this maintenance free mower and he reminded me that I really didn’t even do maintenance on the gas powered ones which was sad but true.
Haha
If you buy from Costco US, you also get 8 years of warranty on the batteries if you register online
Yep that is absolutely correct. Only 4 years from Greenworks.com.
1 1/2 seconds to engage/disengage is a huge exaggeration. There is a brief delay, to start, but it's a fraction of a second. The delay to disengage the wheels was slightly annoying at first, but I learned to disengage a half second before i was done with a pass and the issue is forgotten (I learned that trick from another commenter on CZcams). I thought about how front wheel drive might have some advantages regarding this, but for me, FWD when going up short hills is a nonstarter. As for Teslas, they're instantly fast. Way more lag in my ICE vehicles.
Wasn’t intending to over exaggerate but it is a shift from the norm for sure and something I think should be resolved as they evolve their product. I too have started letting go sooner and it’s less of an issue but still noteworthy for new users. Yes I was wrong about Teslas but there is no editing of a video once it’s posted so I get to face that error about 5-10 times a month when corrected. Lol. It’s a great mower, no regrets.
@@hardybrothersproductreviews That's why I could never be a CZcamsr...every little thing I said that came out wrong (which are many) preserved for eternity! 😀
No one ever talks about how well the baggers work 😪
We bag the grass every time... works great! Do you have a specific question, happy to help!
I don't mind the lag in taking off. To complain about that, would be "Nit Picking" ! However, having to disengage to turn the mower is a big problem. Greenworks needs to address that. They must have known it was a problem when it was designed. And they did "nothing" ! Why ? Is it that the Engineers at Greenworks have never mowed a lawn ? It pisses me off that they failed to address and correct what I consider to be a major defect ! It's like they said, fuck it ! I don't have to use these mowers. As a matter of fact, I don't even mow my own lawn ! I have a Landscaping Company do mine ! It's infuriating to have a company leave a defect such as this one go unaddressed. Especially on a piece of equipment that costs as much as this one does ! "Shame on Greenworks" !
Agree it is an issue, but I've gotten use to it as I have the delayed takeoff. I let go of the drive handle about 1-2 seconds before turning and if I'm in a situation where I'm turning and pulling back in smaller spaces, such as between the sidewalk and road, I just leave the propulsion disengaged as the mower is super light.... overall I agree, it should be something they figure out and fix.
I have a Greenworks and that problem with the wheels not disengaging irritates me so much that had I know I wouldn’t have bought the mower. I do really prefer front wheel drive as then you don’t even have to stop the drive to turn.
Bud, electric cars are known for the lack of hesitation at the pedal… This is a safety feature.
Yeh I got that analogy wrong. Definitely a hesitation on the mower however, maybe for the same reason as there is no need for instant acceleration on a mower.
My old craftsman mower had one lever leveling and it must be 15 years old. It's nothing new.
Nice... First I've ever seen it... Well I suppose maybe the patent ran out and now other manufacturers are using it.
